What if the UK honoured the Anglo-Portuguese alliance during Operation Vijay by supplying Portugal with nuclear weapons?

Operation Vijay, in OTL, was a successful Indian military operation to capture Goa, Daman and Diu from the Second Portuguese Republic. Portugal reminded the UK that the Anglo-Portuguese alliance meant that they had to come to Portugal's aid, but the UK believed differently.

In this scenario, the UK refuses to commit boots on the ground to help Portugal. Instead, it donates up to 20 of its nuclear bombs to help Portugal defend its colonies in the Indian subcontinent. What would happen next?:

  • Where would Portugal drop the nukes and what effect would this have on India's military efforts and stability?
  • How would international geopolitics be affected by an unpopular right-wing dictatorship (without superpower status to boot) dropping nukes to protect its colonies?
  • Would Portugal have dismantled its nuclear weapons at some point, like South Africa, Ukraine and Kazakhstan?

[CONFLICT] Operation Vijay

India is not satisfied with the lack of negotiation, a solution to the French India problem has already been found in this time. It is clear to the Indian government that a timeley end to the issue of Portuguese control of India cannot be achieved and, to that end, the Prime Minister and President have authorized the Indian military to begin immediate operations with the intent of bringing Portuguese rule in the Indian subcontinent to an end.

The forces at the disposal of the invasion are as follows:

1 division of Infantry, with attendant artillery and support troops. (Around 20'000 men)

2 squadrons of P-4 Tulwars and 2 squadrons of Dassault Mystere IV fighter-bombers. (12 aircraft per squadron.)

The Kirov-class Heavy Cruiser 'Kolkata' and the destroyers Rana and Rajput.

For securing Daman far to the north, an infantry battalion and the destroyer 'Teg' are in place. The rules of engagement are as follows:

  • Shortly after dawn, Jan 20th, two squadrons of Tulwars are to begin air patrols over Goa, their instruction is to shoot down any unidentified aircraft in the area.

  • One squadron of Mystere IVs is to strike at the Portuguese Aircraft Carrier anchored in Goa's harbour, they will be equipped with a pair of 500 kilo bombs each to drop upon the carrier, whereupon they are to withdraw and prepare to repeat if necessary. The 2nd squadron of Mystere IVs are to orbit Goa and prepare to attack targets of opportunity with air-ground rockets.

  • The Infantry Division is to begin to advance as soon as they have received word that the airstrike on the carrier has begun, they are to secure the border before moving in to secure the rest of the colony, while the cruiser and it's two escort destroyers are to move in to finish off the carrier and any other naval ships present in the harbour, any positively identified military targets may also be shelled.

  • Finally, the Destroyer Teg, far north in Daman, is to shell the Portuguese military position there, while the Batallion is to advance and attempt to force the surrender of the local Portuguese forces.

My Fanfiction's Timeline.

This timeline is for the fanfiction, "Summoning India", which is currently being written. It does not describe what is going to happen, but what happened before the teleportation event. This would help give anyone a brief understanding of this Alternate India from 2000, so that no one gets confused with the IRL one.

And yes, I know this is like a bio chapter but hey, I don't want people coming to me and being like, "Hey India had Su-30MK in the year 2000, not the F-16! And why is India using the M113 and not the BMP-1/2!!!"

Link for my fanfiction's cover art

Also sorry for any mistakes, I am new to Reddit and still figuring out myself.

Time line starts from here.

1947- After 200 years under British rule, British India gained its Independence. As per the Indian Independence Act passed in the Westminster Parliament, the British Raj was partitioned into two separate independent nations, Secular Dominion of India under the elected Prime Minister Vallabhai Patel and Muslim dominated Dominion of Pakistan.

(Change of leadership - Vallabhai Patel was a man of action and known for his support for his armed forces and a strong united nation, both internal and external power projection. Thus Nehru becoming his deputy here instead )

1947/48- First Indo-Pak War. Both nations were still suffering from the communal violence that had ensued following the partition when an armed conflict arose on the question of who will take the Princely State of Jammu and Kashmir. The war began with a surprise Pakistan sponsored raider attack, overwhelming the State forces.

The ruler of the state, King Hari Singh signed the instrument of accession, which allowed the Indian Army to move in and fight off the raiders. Consequently, regular Pakistani Armed Forces entered combat and, after a year of intense fighting, the United Nations brokered a ceasefire. They left Pakistan with a third of Kashmir and India the rest.

[The Point of Divergence]

August 1950- India answers the call to arms by the United Nations and sends 6 Battalions (4200 soldiers) of the 1st Gorkha Rifles and an Army Medical unit 60th Parachute Field Ambulance to assist the Republic of Korea (South Koreans) in the Korean war. This act puts India to be seen in a better light by the United States and its allies. Indian troops would go on to fight commendably in the war, gaining widespread recognitio

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Regional cinema to beat Bollywood in box office collections this year

NEW DELHI : South Indian films, including those in the Tamil and Telugu languages, will lead box office collections in 2021, with a 50% plus share – reversing the earlier trend where Hindi films used to lead the pack.

Clearly, recovery for regional cinema had continued into April this year, right before the second covid wave and restarted as early as August with more titles having arrived in theatres since. Hits like Master, Vakeel Saab, Love Story and the latest Akhanda and Pushpa: The Rise- Part One have ensured the return of audiences to cinemas in the south.

Hindi cinema, on the other hand, only saw some resurgence after Diwali in November with Akshay Kumar's Sooryavanshi. It has yet to see a second hit though hopes are pinned on sports drama ‘83 starring Ranveer Singh.

So far, the Hindi film industry has only clocked in collections of around ₹450 crore even as cinemas wait for the release of '83 and Jersey before the year is over.

Earnings for south Indian films may be closer to ₹1,000 crore, according to estimates by two trade experts.

Further, the top entertainment conversations on Twitter this year also involved South Indian films and actors. Tamil actor Vijay’s tweet unveiling the first look of his upcoming film Beast was the most liked and retweeted tweet in entertainment. Vijay’s action film Master, which was the most tweeted about south Indian movie of 2020, was finally released after much delay in 2021 and was the most-tweeted-about movie this year, as far as hashtags go.

This was followed by Tamil actor Ajith’s action film Valimai that is scheduled for 2022, Vijay’s Beast, Suriya’s legal drama on caste struggle Jai Bhim that streamed on Amazon Prime Video and Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu film Vakeel Saab that had released in cinemas in April.

“The southern market was back on its feet faster and enjoyed a headway of nearly three months while recovery for Hindi started as late as Diwali. Even now, conditions are not at par with pre-covid times. States like Maharashtra are still operating at 50% capacity while southern territories have 100% occupancies," film producer, trade and exhibition expert Girish Johar said.

Barring Sooryavanshi, there has been no bonafide Bollywood hit post the second wave. While Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2 crashed completely with collections of ₹12.50 crore, Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui could not find a draw among female and family audiences and has finished at ₹22.61 crore.

It is import
