A postdoc position is available in the Professor Mahmut Tör group at the School of Science and the Environment, University of Worcester to work on a collaborative project funded by the BBSRC. The appointee will deploy state-of-the-art methods to the development of tools to increase our understanding of plant – biotrophic oomycete microbe interactions. We will use a high-throughput, sRNA-based genetic screen to identify and study genes specifically involved in processes that are poorly understood in obligate oomycetes such as Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis and Peronospora viciae.
Our research programme focuses on 1) Investigating the properties of sRNA-mediated silencing, optimizing and testing in other oomycetes such as Phytophthora parasitica and P. capsici; 2) Generating gene-specific sRNAs for highly regulated genes in spores, during germination, mycelial development and sporulation; 3) Identifying genes showing a phenotype upon silencing; 4) Investigating some of the well-known effector genes under native conditions.
We seek highly motivated individuals with outstanding talent and abilities in molecular plant pathology and bioinformatics. Candidates should have a PhD in the above-mentioned areas with an excellent record of peer-reviewed publications and strong oral/written communication skills.
For an informal discussion please contact Professor Mahmut Tör, Chair of Molecular Plant and Microbial Biology at m.tor@worc.ac.uk

I grow hydroponic basil in a warehouse for a startup hydroponic production facility. Recently I have lost two tables to downy mildew infections. At first I thought it was from using recycled cocoa or improperly sanitized pots. Now I am fairly confident it is being spread through our water. We collect water off the roof and I run it through a pool particulate filter which I know is insufficient.
Are there any steps I can take to treat my existing 500 gallons of water or any recommended sanitation methods if I have to get drain the reservoir?
