A list of puns related to "Nuclear Submarine"
Torpedos.
I don't know a lot about submarines, but from what I've picked up, it seems that the benefits of diesel electrics are that they are much cheaper to buy and operate, and much quieter when running off the battery. A nuclear submarine on the other hand allows for very long voyages in terms of both distance and time spent underway.
Nuclear submarines are most often used as nuclear deterrents, while diesel electrics are for hunting ships and other submarines given their stealthiness. Given that Australia does not have any nuclear weapons and retaliatory strike requirements, and given that their operating range is mostly limited around the south pacific, what is the advantage of nuclear submarines in their case?
Brazil is also deadset on getting their hands on a nuclear sub. Why don't cheaper diesel electrics suffice for these countries?
Trying to stay up on the night shift and I think subs and shrooms are neat.
I read yesterday that the UK decided in 2011 to shut the Vulcan Nuclear Reactor Testing Establishment in Scotland, the Royal Navy's prototype reactor testing site arguing that computer modelling and confidence in new reactor designs meant testing would no longer be necessary.
Knowing that the UK drank rather generously neoliberal Kool-Aid of running everything as a business/corporation, even if the associated short-termism and profit orientation is a certain way to run a departments into the ground, especially when it's concern decisions with a long term impact, I'm left wondering how much this decision was due to genuine confidence in the modern state of technology, and not just cost-cutting, even if potential undiscovered problems and the necessary refits cost far more than just having kept the site running?
Hi /r/submarines
Can anyone help me identify what kind of nuclear submarine this is? It's from an episode of superman tv show.
What the show says about it - it's a north korean nuclear submarine. Nothing else.
I am not an expert. I tried to google with my limited knowledge and found the Soviet Golden Fish (which might make a little sense for north koreans using old technology), but they don't look very alike outside of double fan prop and the contrast black red paint job on bow.
The scene:
The details I remember are:
at a certain point, a man decides to leave the submarine and go to the surface, where he is shown again on a boat( with rows I think)
a family of 3 or 4, the parents decide to end on their own terms and suicide in bed together with their children, scene is set as if they all go to sleep together and only the parents know.
It's been in my head for a long time and the scene with the parents is powerful, so I would like to watch the movie again.
Thanks a lot!
