A list of puns related to "Minelayer"
I love the IDEA of the minelayer, but the 10 second timer seems to fly straight in the face of the concept of laying mines.
So I was thinking what if they didnt have a timer and instead you could deploy a certain number. The oldest mine laid would detonate when you reach the cap.
How many is a question of balance, but I think either 1 or 2 times magazine capacity would be perfect.
Also, id say the oldest should only explode when a new one activates not when its fired so that direct fire still can be used without messing up laid mines.
Thoughts?
Not really about builds, but more playstyle. The OC removes the ability to control the rockets in favor of causing the missiles to become mines that last for 10 seconds, but I'm struggling to use it right.
As of now I feel forced to maximize missile speed otherwise the time it takes to set up the mines becomes detrimental in large waves, but without damage the amount of pre-planning to set up a good "minefield" seems to not pay off that well.
Anyone have good tips on how to operate it?
Just barely ahead in score, bomb gets planted. Close to the base, kill the pilot, go to disarm and thereβs only 9 seconds left. One of the Minelayers extra enhancements is explosive handling which shaves off 2 seconds to bomb defuse.
Facepalm. lmao π€£
Not being able to hit flying targets with it is the big downside but it has waaaay more damage and AoE vs any other build against glyphids, and the arming time is very fast. Strongly recommend trying it out, just have a nice anti-mactera secondary on you.
(I donβt think I can have a post with just a title so pretend that this text doesnβt exist)
What do you think about them? Could they be modded in? How would you implement them?
I seen the idea to add frigates as a support class of ships that could be combined with mines and minelayers. They wouldn't carry that many weapons but they would have accuses to support slots. So you could have repair, flack, recovery, intel, mine layer, and mine seeker frigates.
Omicron research division proposes a new design in naval engineering: the Retusa class minelayer.
Further details on the craft are suplemented below:
The ship is meant to be used mainly in conjunction with heavier "Bryde" class battlecruiser and "Mynke" class cruiser. The ship is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 meters per second, provided that the water is sufficiently deep (depth required is at least 12 meters). The ship uses a wide and heavily armored hullform, well suited for shallow waters of coastline sectors (mainly 172, where are two "Scepter" class heavy mechs known to pass).
The main armanent is a single mine launcher that dropps off heavy proximty mines in volleys of 3. The reload speed is quick, and the ammo supply is large, so that is rarely an issue. The mines are of special nature, having turning propellers, they are capable of aiming at a particluar angle, towards the ship hull, and aiming the shaped charge warhead with perfect accuracy at the weak spots of the enemy craft. The stream of super-heated copper will melt the outer paneling and likely render the whole compartment useless.
But the most attention is surely drawn by the dual mobile repair beams. Two powerful beams, capable of direct energy to matter conversion at peak efficiency, will repair any damaged hull of a ship, mech, jet or even a heavy hover-ship. The beams draw a large amount of power, so their output is limited due to the reactor and batteries size. The ship wil automatically download the blueprints of new units from the Core database, so it can repair them with perfect accuracy. The beams, sadly, do not work well on high-density structures, walls for example. They are automatically disabled from repairing structures to avoid extensive power consumption.
Later retrofits are possible in many ways. The unit can be upgraded to a proposed, still unfinished, design of a close-range engagement ship, possibly mounting flamethrowers or rams. Another proposed way would be a semi-submersible warship, but that will likely be denied, due to the abovementioned issue of shallow waters.
The ship's damage control system far outmatches that of any previous vessels. Automatic torpedo detection systems will detect any damaging object underwater and quickly evade it, and the built-in system will attempt evasion of any missile. The armor is thick and well layered, only specific armor-piercing weapons will be able to damage it. Even with heavy damage, Retusa stays afloat, awai

If not how would you like to see minelayers in game and what rules would you like to see for them?
Hello,
new player here.
I don't get how hidden deployment works in combination with minelayer. The example in the wiki doesn't really help.
If I deploy a model with HD and minelayer, how do I measure ZoC? As I understand the rules, I have to measure ZoC from the model using the minelayer special skill when deploying the mine... and that certainly gives the position of the "hidden" model away.
What am I missing?
A squad of soldiers whose only mission is to place mines (need to have space for more than 1 mine there) and defuse enemy mines.
Maybe put a small red marker thing above an enemy mine (otherwise they are totally invisible) that can only be seen by the minelayers (cuz they have been trained in recognizing mines or something).
Also, mines should be friendly fire, would be more realistic. Just put a more noticeable blue marker above them.
Does the blight cabin affect the fortune minelayer?
