[Uni] Just got rejected by NUS and NTU

I’m an A level graduate and i applied for NUS CHS and NTU Econs as my first choice and o got rejected.

I applied to SMU Econs and went for an interview. Results are still pending.

I knew when I applied for NUS, my chances of getting in were quite low but I didn’t expect to be rejected by NTU.

I want to appeal for NTU Econs but I’m not sure how to.

What should I do if my application to SMU doesn’t work out?

FYI: my RP is in the low 70s.

[University] how successful are appeals? got rejected by smu, nus and ntu.

I scored 63.75rp, I was banking on ntu history :( i genuinely want history. i took h2 history, pure history, and went on a history trip in j1 :< i thought i would at least be offered an interview, or get accepted in the 2nd round bc my score is 4rp away from the igp (it’s arnd 67?) but apparently not :( i’m planning to appeal for these 3 unis but how successful would I be. I’ll try regardless of the success rate ya know, but knowing that the success rate for appeals is extremyl low, especially for low scorers like me, it’s extremely discouraging HAHA suss also waitlisted me in early april and i’ll only be hearing back from them after the 24th of may!! i got rejected by ntu today while i was with my close friends (who alr accepted their offers) and i felt like shit HAHAHA but im extremely grateful for them bc they were really supportive and encouraging :D!!

Let’s admit it, studying in NTU has taught us many things in life

The academic rigour and knowledge attained, NTU is preparing us for the real world.

Not many problems are straight forward and require deep and critical thinking.

NTU has demonstrated this through various ways, such as tutorial questions asking questions that have never appeared in any form or existence in any lecture records nor notes, and the formulas we needed to apply to solve the question, but never knew they existed as thy were nowhere ever mentioned, until it appears in tutorials.

NTU has also emphasised indirectly that nothing is impossible. For example, exam questions that another user here talked about. The questions that come out every year always come out in unique and never-seen-before forms. The profs are always able to crunch out those unique questions. Yet we don’t see them in our tutorial questions, nor we have attempted any resemblance of them. This is the finest example that in life, problems come in many different ways. You may think you got it, but in reality you don’t.

Most importantly, one key lesson that may have already been obvious to many of us is that, you don’t always get what you paid for. Quality teachings.

[UNI] 70Rp...any offers from NTU/SMU business/accountancy/econs? πŸ₯Ί

Hii!! I'm posting on behalf of my fren who doesn't have a reddit account. She got 70rp and so far she has only gotten and offer from suss for finance and nus for PFM but she said that she wld def prefer ntu/SMU. So is there any one who scored arnd 70rp as well and have gotten offers from SMU/NTU? Or even interview? Cos she haven't gotten any interview from both unis as well...😩 Hopefully this will help ease her mind cos she's been worrying so much about uni since the start. ik there are others feeling the same as well so will those scoring arnd 70rp get their offers more likely in second window?

Edit: does the portfolio play a big part for those with lower rp? For example like dance/instrumental certs and positions in cca which is not necessarily related to the course itself

[Uni] rejected from both ntu and nus, what can I do now?

I was fully rejected from both ntu and nus, no news from sit. I’m on the reserve list for suss business analytics but I have my doubts that I’ll get a position and I’ll only get the news about mid June onwards which is too late. I got 65rp and I was retained so I already spent 3 years in jc.

Should I try appealing to civil engineering for both ntu and nus? I tried for that course during application for both ntu and nus but ended up being rejected. For ntu, civil engineering wasn’t my first choice.

Any suggestions on what I could do now? Like private Uni or going poly or maybe repeat A levels next year? I don’t know what to do anymore.

Do you reckon NTU NBS will get back to us next week? If not, I guess it will be a long wait for me :(. It is very unbearable to continue waiting like this. Many others (Those who are still waiting like me) who I conversed with are also getting anxious....

Not sure if NTU NBS will still send acceptance letters or everything from now on will be rejection letters :(

Anyone can advise, based on your experience, is it possible for NTU to get back to me and the others by next week? Window closes on 24th May.

[UNI] Rejected by NTU

Welp, just received an email by NTU saying that I got rejected completely. Pretty down now. I got 73.75rp and applied NBS for my first choice and got invited to the interview, but afterwards I think I messed up my interview damn badly and probably gave them a bad impression. What I want to know is that should I try to appeal for NTU biz again or try for a less demanding course, also would like to know the success rates of appeal forms.
Honestly I am in a dilemma right now as I didn't expect to get rejected by NBS, let alone everything since my rp was 2.5 higher than the 10th percentile IGP.

PS: does anyone know what are the essential things to write on an appeal letter?

[Uni] Do employers discriminate between NUS, NTU and SMU Business Schools?

For this year’s admissions cycle, I have accepted a double degree in Business Management and Information Systems from SMU. However, I am curious to find out whether employers view NUS, NTU and SMU graduates differently. Personally, I feel that the three business schools are viewed pretty much equivalently in today’s job climate. However, I am unable to confirm this as I have not experienced the workforce myself and am just assuming matters.

While I’m pretty sure that employers will not discriminate between the three schools, I need seniors to advise me on whether SMU truly provides quality business education and whether the impressive employment statistics are credible. Also, will a second degree in Information Systems improve my employability and competitiveness in the process of job hunting? I’m aware that the tech industry is growing rapidly now and an education in relevant technological applications is very useful. However, I have no experience with coding and am worried that I won’t be able to cope with the demands of a computing course. Finally, I’m also curious to know whether a cumulative GPA of 3.4 is achievable while doing a DDP as it’s the minimum requirement to continue the DDP after the end of Year 2.

I appreciate all the advice given! Thanks seniors!

[Scholarships] NTU VS NUS CS but offered NTU CNYang

I have been offered CS for NUS and NTU.. But NTU with a cnyang scholarship. I have yet to receive any news for nus scholarships and I'm really stuck in between the two schs. CNyang is really attractive and it feels a bit wasted to give up such an opportunity. Honestly, is it true that NTU CS education is really lacking by huge margins compared to NUS CS? NTU is also also more inconvenient and further from my house, which is kind of worrying because I want to stay close to my grandparents and staying at hostel means I'll see them less often.

Bkgrnd info: 88.75 rp with a very average portfolio, is there any chance to get nus merit scholarship lol from what I read need to get 90 is it true?

[Uni] Anyone with high 3.6x to 3.7x GPA got offered NTU NBS Biz WITHOUT ANY INTERVIEW?

I have written a similar post recently. Apologies but I am worried sick now. My Gpa is in the high 3.6x. I applied for NTU Biz in 1st Feb and as of now there is no news nor interview sessions for me. I did not apply via ABA.

More and more applicants seem to be accepted into NTU Biz and I am still here waiting. I am getting more and more frustrated and anxious as each day passes by.

I would like to know if anyone with a Gpa 3.6X to 3.7x got direct offer to NTU Biz WITHOUT INTERVIEWS AND WITHOUT ABA? So far those I only know those with interviews, ABA got accepted. Direct offers are for those who scored v high such as 3.8x and 3.9x from what I know so far.

Does this mean that applicants who did not get very high GPA and have no non academic achivements, will not be offered admission? Am very worried since now NTU places more emphasis on ABA, something that I severely lack.

I am very worried till the point I feel like I am falling sick. And the fact that I may have to wait till June worries me even more. I am getting more unproductive each day and I hate it. I get that no news is good news, but it can get very worrying at times.

Thank you.

NUS CS vs NTU CS

Context: I planned to join NUS CS but I heard of people who got 87.5 getting rejected last year. So I applied for NTU CS as a backup. I applied for NTU scholarships as well jic i ended up joining NTU CS instead. I ended up getting CNYSP and WCY despite my almost non existent portfolio and questionable interview skills (?) Meanwhile, NUS didn’t invite me down for a scholarship interview.

Honestly, I already decided to go for NUS CS when I was offered CNYSP (because I felt that the teaching quality of NUS CS was better and I wasn’t really keen on research). But after being offered WCY, I started to doubt myself.

So here are my current offers:

  • NUS CS (with a $1350 bursary for my first year, subject to renewal)
  • NTU CS (CN Yang scholars programme + Nanyang scholarship; worth $67,550 OR Wee Cho Yaw Future Leaders Award; worth $96,800) Note: CN Yang is a scholars programme based on research, there's an overseas trip, an overseas final year project, i’ll have to take modules which include the triple sciences, ethics, climate change etc. (My main concern is struggling with the research part for the next 4 years of my life. I had some experience with research in secondary school and I didn’t really enjoy it. Especially combing thru piles of articles. But then again I’m not entirely sure what research about CS entails…)
  • I’m working off the assumption that I’m able to join CNYSP on top of WCY, but WCY replaces Nanyang

Moneywise, the difference between what NTU and NUS offered me is huge. Although we qualify for financial aid, my family’s financial situation isn’t too bad and my parents expressed that they don’t mind me choosing NUS (but I do feel a bit bad).

Pros & Cons (IMO excluding the money portion):

  • NUS CS: Pros: Better teaching, better bidding & SU system, more specialised as its a computing degree, have more backup computing related choices if I decide to change courses Cons: Very competitive, harder to do well and graduate with honours
  • NTU CS: Pros: Able to stand out more easily, more opportunities available as a scholar Cons: Complains about teaching and outdated syllabus (I heard their revamping it but that also means it isn’t tried and tested), worser bidding & SU system, not super keen on research (for CN Yang)

Tldr: I prefer NUS for their teaching but prefer NTU for the money and prestige

Reading online, almost everybody says that NUS CS is better than NTU CS. But then again people also say that for CS, employers won’t judge

[Uni] NTU ABA Online Interview

Hello :)

I have just received my NTU Online interview session yesterday on 24 April. There are limited information on the internet about this online interview as it is relatively new. We have to Answer 6 Questions in 31 Mins. I am intending to take the interview in a few days. However, I do have some Questions

  1. The Email did not state which course I am being interviewed for just asked for a generally admission interview so I am curious if it is for my First Choice course or for all the choices in general. My first choice was CEG and 2nd Choice was EEE.

  2. Will the Questions be Questions about personal Experiences / aims / vision /goal or passion related e.g why you choose this course / what do you like about this course etc. Or will it be technical questions such as related to Programming/ Math which require studying

  3. How do we prepare for the interview ?

Please free to comment anything about your experiences with the interview. I also understand that you will not be able to reveal the Questions itself bcz of the confidentiality but it is more than enough to answer generically :) . All responses regardless of their nature are welcomed and i am really appreciative of it :). All the best for your admissions!

Thanks for Reading !!!

[University] No news from NUS, NTU, SMU with 3.7x GPA for Social Sciences - anyone else?

Hi! So my GPA is 3.76 from a biz diploma (with merit) and I applied to the following courses: NUS CHS - preferred major political science, NTU public policy & global affairs, SMU SOSS - politics, law and economics as first choice, political science / psychology / sociology as second choice. My next choices for all the unis are business related courses.

I applied in early to mid Feb for all the unis and have just been waiting ever since.

I went for the NUS ABA written test on 30 apr but they never said anything about a follow up interview. I'd like to think my written test went well, especially since I was quite familiar with the topic. My friend with a lower GPA than me got invited for an interview with CHS after her written test.

I went for the SMU PLE interview on 19 Mar, and I never heard back ever since. I did try to be super proactive and express my interest in the course.

And I've just been ghosted from NTU since the beginning lol.

My extracurriculars from poly are mostly national and international entrepreneurship competitions which I won, volunteering experiences which I lead, some CCAs where I was a member (not exco), interned at a social enterprise. My FYP was also a social research project pertaining to youth issues when transitioning to adulthood. In sec sch, I had Model UN experience and went for debate competitions.

I'm not very sure what I could've done better, but I just feel hopeless waiting for them every single day to get back to me. Especially since the first window of acceptance is approaching soon on 24th may. Is anyone else in a similar position as me? Honestly feeling quite ridiculous, like maybe my GPA could've been better or something, then I wouldn't have such a difficult time trying to get into uni HAHA. Idk, this just feels like a very isolating experience bc nearly everyone I've talked to on reddit have atleast one uni offer for themselves from these three unis.

I know they say no news is good news. But I'm just so done with it. Good news is also great news, LOL. Sorry for the 3am ramblings, I've just been feeling very emotional about this for the last few months now. Sigh.

If you have gotten in, or are waiting for uni results too for these specific courses, could you share your stats down below if you feel comfortable. Or DM me. I just wanna gauge where I stand.

EDIT: I JUST GOT MY SMU PLE OFFER OMG!!! On 15th May 2021 (saturday) at 4pm.

[Uni] Any international student from poly gotten into NUS/NTU/SMU

Hi, I'm an international student who graduated from SP this year with GPA of 3.64. I heard from one of my Chinese senior (who is also international student) who study in NUS that international student usually need 0.1 - 0.2 higher GPA than 10th percentile to get in. So I thought i would stand a good chance for some of the NTU engineering courses like EEE with 10th percentile of 3.40 and materials engineering with 10th percentile of 3.36.

So I would just like to ask is there any international student with GPA range of 3.5 - 3.7 gotten into SMU/NUS/NTU engineering courses in previous years? I saw some of my PR friend with a much lower GPA than mine getting offer from NTU engineering so I'm slowly losing hope due to endless waiting and silence.

Can anyone tell me if my chances are very slim being intl student with no outstanding GPA? If I can be assured that my chances are low, I guess i will prepare myself to take a gap year and take IELTS/SAT exams to boost up my portfolio and reapply next year so that I don't need to waste anymore time and emotions into this. Thank you for reading and would appreciate any comments if you know something. :D thank you in advance!

Selling points of NTU

Hi! I need help with deciding which local uni offer to accept. I did not attend any open house as I was working full-time during the post-A level holidays.

Currently, I am listing out the pros and cons btwn the local unis and would like to know what are the other selling points of NTU other than the cheaper accomodation, 2 year guaranteed hall stay.

I also have other questions:

  1. How are the gyms in NTU. Is there a booking system?
  2. Are there plugs at almost every study table? I visit U town and theres plugs literally next to every study table.
  3. How's the student welfare like in NTU?
  4. What are some points that you think NTU is lacking and can improve on?

NTU SU system

Anyone thinks NTU’s SU system sucks?? NUS students gets to SU modules (even cores) after seeing their grades while NTU students don’t get that 😒 sigh

What do you guys think? Is there a reason why NTU would implement their SU system this way?

What to Expect for NTU business?

I have been accepted into NTU business but currently unsure what to expect so I have a few questions to ask hopefully alumni, Seniors can provide some insights.

  1. What does NTU business focus on? Would it help me in the future as I have intention to startup a business and mainly learn more on some finances.

  2. Are the modules theory heavy? Or is there tons of presentation?

3.What are the possible internship opportunities? And maybe how do the people at the companies treat interns?

  1. Would you choose NTU business again if you have another chance to choose another field?

[University] NUS data science and analytics or NTU Math and computer science(double major)?

I am offered both programs, but I am now having a headache choosing between them. It may seem as though NTU may be an obvious choice, but I have been researching a lot about the environment in both schools and their respective majors, and I have to say, the reviews of NTU CS is frankly not good (outdated mods, self-learning university, professors bad at teaching etc). I know there is a course change in the syllabus for NTU CS, but from what I see, some people are still skeptical about the changes. On the other hand, I read that NUS data science covers too many topics (CS, Math, Stats), and therefore lack depth required to find a job in the future unless I go on to get a masters. I am matriculating this year, and I have the following queries:

  1. does the changes to the syllabus in NTU CS affect me, and to what extent does it solve the issue of outdated mods?

  2. I have heard about the STARS planning system and about the STAR wars that NTU has, and I read that those having double major are in a great disadvantage since the mods are first come first serve, and thus those with double major have a problem clearing their mods (link to the complaint: https://www.reddit.com/r/singapore/comments/cf4rww/ntu_doesnt_provide_quality_education_and_heres/. I know that some of the things this post brought up is exclusively about SBS, but there are also some things that applies to all students there.) How much of it is true?

  3. What is the job prospect like for NUS data science and analytics, and how detrimental is the lack of depth of the topics learned?

[Uni] NTU Scholarship Offer

I am an international student. I attended the scholarship interview yesterday and they got back to me today telling me that I got the scholarship. I find it weird that I need to reply their scholarship offer by tomorrow. Was it always this short period of time that NTU give for students to reply? What will happen if I change my mind after accepting the scholarship? Btw I am still waiting for NUS offer. What do you guys think?

Hi!

Would anybody happen to know ppl who have gotten inside and what their RP is? cant seem to find much information online esp for the latter.

Looking to appeal to change course and would be great if I could know my chances.

Also for econs and Data science, btw NUS and NTU, may I know which one you would pick if you were in such a situation. I heard the data science is better in NTU but Econ’s ranking in NUS seems to be higher.

Thank you so much for the help

[Scholarships] NTU USP SCHOLARSHIP OFFER

So this might come out vv desperate, but like, NTU USP has been one of like the main reasons why I wanted to join NTU. Sure the scholarship was great too, and would give some financial independence, but I found the programme so cool and like intriguing. Anyway the point is, I haven't heard back from the scholarships team at NTU, and If I were to be rejected, is there anyway I can appeal to them. I mean anyway it's a small cohort, so I could ask them if they could please look over my application or something? Looking for advice on this from anyone who has applied/gotten the scholarship, thanks

[Uni] difference between student life in nus/NTU/smu

can anyone tell me more info on the student life/acad diff between the 3 main unis for biz? Is it true that f/s in smu is not as solid as nus/NTU for eg given that students usually spend less time on campus due to most not staying in hall? And is it harder to get into ccas for smu since there are only β€œ1 cca” as compared to the other unis w hall cca which makes the competition lesser.

and also does anyone have insight regarding how this year’s uni orientation will be conducted? (given the covid situation)

[Uni] [Scholarships] Can't choose between NUS Merit Scholarship or NTU School Scholarship, helppppp

For context, i applied to Environmental Earth Systems Science at NTU and Environmental Studies at NUS. I like the course structure for NTU better as they have specialisations. Recently, NUS removed their specialisations as part of the cross disciplinary programme.

Initially, i already set my sights on NTU EESS as they offered me a scholarship first. BUT nus sent me an email today, telling me that i got the nus merit scholarship. The monetary benefit of NUS nerit scholarship is wayyyyy better than NTU school scholarship as it offers living allowance and computer allowance.

Anyone currently in Environmental Studies at NUS/under NUS merit scholarship? I have a few questions to ask regarding the programme & scholarship so i can make a more informed decision. Thank you πŸ₯Ί

  1. Are there a lot of field trips? - i know NTU EESS has a lot of field trips and thats why i am attracted to it

  2. Are the lectures comprehensive? Are the lecturers good? - i heard that NUS lecturers are quite subpar BUT i need to confirm this from a current student's perspective

  3. In the terms and conditions, there is a clause that states: " Scholars are required to take part in community engagement projects." Is this very time consuming?

  4. "Scholar's particulars may be used for marketing purposes, including development and fund raising activities, or disclosed to external organisations for purposes of surveys or publicity of NUS scholarships." - whats exactly does this mean? Will my privacy be breached?

Being Queer In NTU

I'm going to be a freshie in Ntu in the upcoming year, and I'm starting to feel a bit worried about being gay guy in ntu. Right from hall stay, I have to choose double room because it's more affordable, and what if my roommate is homophobic or something, would I be able to change without ending hall stay? I don't want to make someone uncomfortable or be uncomfortable for at least the first two years of study. Will everyone look at me like I'm some weird creature? Idk this is just some thoughts I had and I've just been really nervous about it over all, so if anyone could pm me about their experiences or whatever that would be great because yah it's still like 3 months away and my anxiety is already pumping.

[Uni] NUS CS vs NTU CS
