Clashes between supporters of the Grand Patriotic Pole and the Democratic Unity Roundtable flared up all across December, with protests lasting into January 2021. Overall however, President Maduro and the Constituent National Assembly firmly holds onto power, with support of its allies in Cuba, Russia, and China. Even as Western powers and much of South America continues to put pressure onto the Venezuelan government with their support to the opposition, the Grand Patriotic Pole holds on.
The Constituent Assembly of Venezuela, in which the government holds 100% of the seats, has deemed the National Assembly - in which the opposition has a large majority - unfit to serve, and criminal in their challenge to the Supreme Court decision of 2017 during the constitution crisis.
The National Assembly had previously boycotted the legal recognition ceremony of the Constituent Assembly. Government representatives in the National Assembly have all resigned their seats. Now with the National Assembly set to meet, the special police have been deployed to arrest the opposition representatives.
The Constituent Assembly will then become the de facto National Assembly, and 100% of the governing legislature will be government controlled, in accordance with the decisions of the Supreme Court, the Constitution and the will of President Hugo Chavez (PBUH).
