Can you multiwindow 2 chrome tabs?

I've been trying to get 2 chrome tabs open at once but it doesn't appear to be able to do that. Has anyone figure it out?

How to define meaningful Multiwindow, Multi-Burn-Rate Alerts

Greetings everyone,

I recently dived into alerting on SLOs and have been intensively researching the theory behind Multiwindow, Multi-Burn-Rate Alerts. I am now somewhat confident that I understand everything under the hood of it, and I was tasked with defining 3 alert policy templates for my organization.

Now I know that in this field there isn't such a thing as a "one config fits all", and that for something to work properly it requires continuous iteration. Despite that, at this point, we feel the most important thing is to start with general approaches and then fine-tune them as we go down the road, so here we are :).

Basically, I'd like to create 3 general-purpose Multiwindow, Multi-Burn-Rate Alert Policies, that are meant to be applied on SLOs with different length compliance windows.

- The first would be fit for compliance windows of at least one month.- The second for compliance windows of a few weeks.- And the third for compliance windows of less or equal to 1 week.

I found that there are very little resources about how to properly fine-tune this configurations, and would like to know if you have any reading recommendations about this.

For the first case, I think I'll just follow the exact recommendation Google proposes in its SRE book:

https://sre.google/workbook/alerting-on-slos/#recommended_parameters_for_an_slo_based_a

Other than that, I don't really know where to start with all these parameters. Reading recommendations with multiple examples or rules of thumb would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance :)

Some multiwindow/multitasking problems.

Hi guys, have Multistar / Good Lock module.

For some reason lately, if I open up split screen to multi-window and pick the second app, once both apps are picked it doesn't let me switch into another app without closing and re-opening.

It'll also get buggy where it'll get stuck on one of the panels without allowing you to switch to the other half, particularly when trying to do a long press on recents and it shoots you to the "app pair" you've created and you instead want to go back to the split view.

One wonders why in the world this thing got so messed up after working so amazingly and practically perfectly just a couple of Android (or One UI) iterations ago.

Anywhere to submit feedback on this where developers can see, whether Good Lock or Samsung UI or Android or whoever is responsible for its implementation?

Can the Duo run apps in multiwindow?

I am seeing that the Duo is starting to come down to a manageable price on Amazon.. i am a long time Samsung Dex user, and i dont want to upgrade to a Z fold phone because of the chances of the screen failing. I am just wondering if the Duo can do floating multiwindow at all, or is it stuck at using only 2 apps at a time? Also is there any kind of desktop mode support built in to the phone or does it just mirror both screens? Thanks for any help

Understanding the theory behind multiwindow, multi-burn-rate is driving me insane. Am I on the right track?

I'm working much harder than feels necessary to understand what's going on behind the sixth and final step of Alerting on SLOs from Google's SRE workbook and I'm coming up short. Let me brain-dump my understanding so far and see if I can come up with good questions to tie it all together.

The variables at play are:

  • SLO
  • Error Budget, which directly varies with SLO
  • Error Rate, which is not controlled by the SRE in practice outside of testing
  • SLO Time Window
  • Alert Time Window
  • % of budget consumed

With these values, we can also calculate:

  • Burn Rate
  • Detection Time

For the sake of argument, an example service being used for this understanding has an SLO of 99.9% which makes the error budget 0.1% or 0.001. The SLO time window is 30 days == 720 hours == 43200 minutes.

My confusion begins with understanding how the authors of the workbook chose the window and budget consumption percentages. Their SLO time window in this chapter is 30 days; how do I determine the changes in these recommended windows and consumption percentages if I were to use a different SLO time window? Were these numbers entirely based on trial-and-error by Google?

I am also trying to understand what the bounds are on the variables controlled by the SRE. When choosing the alert time window and budget consumption percentage, surely there are nonsensical values that must be avoided? A service can only consume so much of its error budget in a given time window; for example, 100% of the budget of this example service cannot be consumed in 10 minutes. I spent some time trying to work out a lower bound on the alert time window:

alertTimeWindow > sloWindow * errorBudget * budgetConsumption * errorRate

For my example service with a 100% budget consumption and 100% error rate, this works out to:

alertTimeWindow > 43200 minutes * 0.001 * 1 * 1
alertTimeWindow > 43.2 minutes

Meaning that the chosen alert time window needs to be greater than 43.2 minutes for an alert to fire. Clearly 100% consumption is worst-case but I use it for the sake of argument. If we were considering 2% consumption as the workbook does in multiple situations:

alertTimeWindow > 43200 minutes * 0.001 * 0.02 * 1
alertTimeWindow > 51.84 seconds

How about 2% consumption and 80% error rate:

alertTimeWindow > 43200 minutes * 0.001 *

How to change the Task Switcher mode? How to improve Multiwindow?

Now that all the good lock modules have been updated, I feel like we have lost some functionality, or maybe I've just forgotten how to do some things.

  1. How do I change the task switcher to show a screen of one line per app, instead of each app on a full screen?

  2. I used to be able to open up my video player in the top window, and then swipe up to the home screen where I could jump from app to app. Now if I swipe to home screen, I lose the multiwindow and have to start over.

Is this functionality that used to be in the Multiwindow module and has been removed, or am I losing my mind? Or both.

Thanks for the help.

[rant] Still no multiwindow support on slack

My biggest complaint about the slack UI is the lack of multiwindow support. I don't know if the dev team is convinced that everyone in the world is working primarily off of an ipad or what... but it seriously does not work for me.

I'm on about 2 dozen busy channels across multiple workspaces. I frequently miss messages because I'm not actively switching channels over and over. And this seems like an easy fix.

"I need to watch the channel for my team and with the customer" is hardly a unique usecase.

I've requested this at least four times in the last three years. Each time, support has indicated that I'm not the first person to ask for this. Opening multiple browser windows to get around the issue is a messy workaround for a variety of reasons, memory use and the lack of ability to dock/undock windows being near the top. Getting a third party app seems like a terrible idea for a corporate environment since I don't want to risk data leaking.

Anyway. That's my rant. Slack is still better than the alternatives.

Does anyone else think that all of the new OneUI 2.5 multiwindow and edge panel features make DeX less useful now?

So I want to start this off by saying that I have always loved DeX and felt like it was always such an underrated feature on my Samsung phones and even my Tab S6.

Fast forward to my Tab S7+ and OneUI 2.5 and I find myself failing to see much of a use case for it anymore due to how many improvements Samsung has made to the Edge Panel. It is just so easy now to quickly open apps in pop up view as well as split screen mode. I absolutely love that I can even set up a split screen pairing and in one tap launch two apps in a split screen.

I know there are other interface benefits to DeX but there are also the known things that don't work as well so I have to say it's kinda awesome to have such great windows management using the regular tablet UI. Is anyone else finding themselves using DeX less now?

7.0 Multiwindow is great, but..

What I really miss from Samsung's implementation is 'Open Links in New Window' (not sure of the exact wording)

If you turn this option on, it opens all links in a new split-screen window.

If someone sends you a link, it opens the browser as a new window in half the screen.

If you click on a YouTube link while on reddit, it opens YouTube as half the screen and you can continue reading the reddit comments.

This functionality made multiwindow so much more useful. You don't have to remember to open a new window, it does it automatically.

I am willing to pay if someone makes a mod that allows this on stock Nougat.

Edit: Not sure in s6/s7 but on Note 4 I had to tap the text next to the multiwindow switch in settings.

Multiwindow on One UI

Let me start of by saying, One UI on the galaxy note 9 is extremely polished and Samsung totally killed it in terms of features. My disappointment is only caused by the fact that Android Pie is less intuitive and less power user friendly than Oreo and this is evident as -

  1. Pop-Up View shortcut - Samsung allowed a diagonal swipe from the top left hand corner of the screen to set any app into picture in picture mode and that's no longer possible.

  2. Multiwindow features - while in multiwindow it was earlier possible to switch the top and bottom windows and also quickly setting a window to PiP with it being no longer being possible now.

  3. Full Screen Gestures - This really is a great feature. No NAV bar on 6.4inch screen with rounded edges is aesthetically pleasing but in terms of functionality it still requires some polish because there are no Gestures that let you quickly go to split-screen multitasking and also you can't configure them to your liking.

Samsung has done everything in the past to make sure that their phones are not crippled by the current android version and have included features to truly make their phones the most feature packed. I just hope Samsung continues developing one UI on a path that brings back the intuitive multiwindow experience of Oreo.
