A list of puns related to "Monarch Butterflies"
Theres a post on r/WorldNews about a massive recovery in the monarch butterfly population.
Certainly good news, but it got insanely viral and Iβm not sure why, I havent heard literally anything about the species prior to this. And everyone in the comments is saying stuff like βDonarchβ and whatever. I didnβt even know that the species was endangered until now.
Why is it such a huge deal all of a sudden. Was there some sort of viral coverage on the decline in population at some point? or is it just that people are happy to see good news for a change?

tl;dr: why do people suddenly give a colossal shit about monarch butterflies?
This very cold weather has me longing for summertime and planning all the things for sunshine and warm weather.
I searched through and couldn't find anything here, so was wondering if anyone has ever raised monarch butterflies in SK? Where do you buy the larvae? Are they even something endemic to our area (in Regina, for reference) that would survive/thrive?
Does anyone know where I can collect wild monarch caterpillars on Oahu? Want to raise and release them π
βAs for the 2021 monarch population numbers, Wakamiya said that after speaking with a monarch specialist, he believes there are around 3,000 monarchs in the Ellwood Main and 15,000 monarchs in the Goleta Butterfly Grove. In 2020, the monarch count at the Ellwood Mesa was 16. When asked what could have caused the increase in population, Wakamiya said, βThat's the great unknown. Though the monarch count has improved, Wakamiya said that in previous years, the Ellwood Mesa site alone would have 40,000 to 80,000 monarchs.β
