A list of puns related to "Megohm"
I was asking some questions in the RSI chat room when MegOhm offered to get me a Digital Bounty Hunter copy of the game.
I just really wanted to make this post to say thanks to MegOhm and to say how awesome this community is for all the help I got last night.
Here is the email I got :)
Folks
I have raspberry pi gpio pin (set for input) getting ttl from 555 timer running monostable. The 555 puts out 5 volts logic levels.
Is it safe for me to take the 555's 5 volt output and feed it through a one megohm resistor in series to the gpio pin on the pi?
Is one megohm appropriate or shall I use a different value resistor? Or would a capacitor in series be okay?
I plan to have an interrupt routine be run on the upward slope of the pulse (going from logic 0 to logic 1).
Thank you
Mark Allyn
My friend is reviewing electrical power topics. We are looking through old dusty books, and came upon transmission line models. They talk about resistance and inductive reactance in per mile which makes sense. But, they talk about capacitive reactance in ohm-mile which doesn't make sense. Can someone clarify what that actually means? Can it be converted to a value of Ohm/mile? Thanks.
Writing this down here. First day.
Take a good copper wire. Use a power cord that you donβt need, for example. Connect this cord to a grounding conduit. If you know how to build your own grounding (you need a yard with soil) then thatβs the best, if not, use the houseβ existing grounding.
Touch the back side of the ear (more accurately: the skull right behind the ear) (any ear) with the grounding cable. Results: complete silence! No V2K whatsoever, no more philosophical inquiries, no more mental colonoscopies!
EDIT: please donβt electrocute yourself! If you donβt know how to know where to find the grounding wire, and how to measure with a voltmeter that the grounding of your house is actually done correctly, then better if you ask an electrician.
EDIT2: better description of the area to touch: not βthe back side of the earβ, rather βthe skull right behind the earβ

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.
Well, toucan play at that game.

They also play roles in Lord of the Rings.
I guess that makes them the Tolkien white guys.
It's a 2 ton Tempstar straight-cool and it does have a rough sounding start but it's only about 2 years old. How can he assume it is going bad? Should I just add a hard-start kit along with the new cap he put in?
How can I check the condition of the compressor to see if it really is on its last leg?

Help me out with a little confusion. Do I need antistatic wrist straps when I am-
A little bit of explanation would be nice. If I'm not touching the ground then no electricity can pass through me, so why do I need the band? And if I am touching the ground, I am already grounded, so why do I need the band again? And if I am on some kind of insulator would that act as an alternative to the antistatic band?
Keep in mind, my son is 4 years old, so everything is an original to him.
I had to work late into the evening yesterday, and he was just going to bed when I got home. I had left home for the office nearly 14 hours prior, had a long day, lots of meetings, traffic, etc.
When I walked through the door, I was exhausted, run down, and starving. My wife hugged me and asked how my day was, and I replied, "Done. It was a good day, but has got me exhausted. I just want to grab a bite and go to bed. I'm hungry."
From my son's bedroom, I hear him shout, "Hi Hungry! Nice to meet you!"
Not only did it make me laugh, but I completely forgot about how hungry and tired I was. I went to his bedroom, and we laughed together about it. It was exactly what I needed.
Edit: Thanks for all the awards, kind strangers! I'll let my son know y'all enjoyed his joke too!
The problem with piezo pickups and piezoelectric crystals is that they are not well matched to typical audio inputs. By their nature they can generate a lot of signal, but they cannot drive a 50 kilohm typical line input. The pickup needs to work into a much higher impedance, typically 1 megohm or so. That was not a issue with pure tube amplifiers, because they are high impedance inputs by nature.
So what to people do? They go and plug a piezoelectric disks output directly into the line input of their recorder, typical impedance 50k, or the plug-in-power mic input of their recorder, typical impedance about 7k, and they start to bitch and moan that this damn thing sounds tinny. Which is does ! But they don't understand why!
The reason why these devices often sound tinny is because the piezo sensor presents its signal through a series capacitance which is small, typically 15nF or less. When wired to a normal 50 kilohm line input this forms a high-pass filter, which eliminates the bass.
This circuit board solves that: https://github.com/Supermagnum/piezo-balanced

I did not know.
So he tells me "as Mushroom as possible!"
