How does this variant stay relevant when apparently the only hands you can finish with are ones listed in some card that changes every year, and you have to pay money to be able to see what they are? Am I missing something here?
It's an event for 14, but with both Yoshida and Takai there... okay there probably won't any 16-related banter but I'm atleast interested in seeing the two of them on screen together.
Very amateur mahjong player looking for some club or community on campus that plays! I love playing mahjong with my family but we rarely get the chance to besides holidays. Iβm sure thereβs students out there who also play. Iβd love to join & learn more
Hello everyone, I need advices to improve my game. I usually play defensive, and when I manage to win is almost always a cheap hand. Also, when I try to play more aggressively or I try to make bigger hands I fail most of the time (I don't reach tenpai or I get tsumoed. Or both) I have already read Riichi Book 1 and I know I'm overlooking something, but I don't know what. Do you have any advices to improve my attack?
If the narrative team (or whoever is responsible for these Dawning quest step dialogues) sees this, I truly <3 y'all.
I'm fantasizing about hosting a game at some point, my friends and I get together often to play games so why not Mahjong right? Except nobody knows the game and I'm still getting started with riichi. But in any case, how do you keep track of all these rules without a computer? How do you remind yourself of Furitens and what about the point system and who gets what? Honestly sounds crazy complicated if you don't have a computer doing the math for you.
My mom is turning 70 in March and she loves playing mahjong with her friends. I'd like to gift her a nice set of her own but have no idea where to start. I'd like to spend less than 250$. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!! Thanks for your time.
Prog Rock Special Hands:
Some of these work or can be modified to work as standard Mahjong hands. Some of these are fanciful and have unmeldable elements β but that's not unheard of in special hands, either.
Hi folks,
to teach myself the MCR scoring system I decided to make an app (iOS only, sorry) which, after having put in your hand, returns you a breakdown of the points achieved and with what fans.
I'll attach a few screenhots of the app.
Since I'm still testing it for correctness, bugs, so on and so forth. I made a public TestFlight link if someone would like to participate in the testing itself. It's all free, if you download the TestFlight app from the AppStore it's as easy as opening that link and accepting the invite.
Simply select the wanted Set type from the upper left menu and then click on the wanted tile from the scrollable menu. For chows please select the starting tile.
Under the booklet icon you'll find game/round/hand settings. You can hold on already selected sets to switch them from concealed to melded.
It should run both on iPhones and iPads (albeit on the latter with a funky UI, I've made it with iPhones in mind).
I am looking forward to your criticism, suggestion, ideas. Most of all I need to check if the scoring algorithm is correct, please double check it.
Feel free to DM me for whatever inquiry.
I bought Mahjong on steam for 99 cents thinking it was the actual game which I have been wanting to learn for a long time. Learned the hard way about the solitaire thing, but it's still pretty fun. But I do want to learn the real thing, could anyone steer me in the right direction?
I'm really interested in Taiwan, so any version that is most commonly played there or in Mainland China/Hong Kong would be great, unless you would advise against it for one reason or another. Thank you for the help

Can't wrap your head around Yakuza's mahjong minigames? Going to the Music and Gaming Festival in National Harbor, MD in a couple of weeks? Got nuffin' to do on Friday at 2:30?
Come on down to the Riverview Ballroom Panel Room at 2:30 and I'll be presenting a primer and practice games of riichi mahjong, which can be helpful for new players learning the game.
We'll be running the game via the Nintendo Switch game "Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics" which will allow local play as well so the more people who bring their Switch, the more people can join in. You can either purchase the game itself or download the free demo which allows for local play with people who own the game.
Obviously not going to gang anyone into buying the game just for this, but if you do, we can break out into more games.
The panel will also be recorded so I'll share the disaster once it's done and uploaded.
Hi, hope everyone's having a nice day.
I've noticed playing Mahjong Soul that sometimes after chiing an opponent, when I have to discard again one of my tiles will be greyed out and I won't be able to, even if I want to. Nothing is especially said then, so I don't know what rule it refers to?
I believe it happened when I chiied 5/6/7 of bamboo and I had 4/5 in hand, the 4 was greyed out.
I'd love if you guys could explain that rule!
Thanks for reading.
As title says, looking for a group that plays Mahjong in the Bay - just moved here but also keen to get going! I mainly play Singaporean/Malaysian MJ (so with the animals as well).
Do y'all find the game fun or bother with mahjong completion?
Personally, I like it a lot more than the other gambling minigames. I don't care for completion, although the trophies will come along the more you play.
