A list of puns related to "Shamisen"
Is there any guide to what all the difference symbols on shamisen tablature indicate? I recently bought a shamisen online and I an trying to get a head start before it arrives
Not really looking for the expensive synthetic skin made by master Japanese craftsmen that's still quite hard to get.
Looking for suggestions for materials used on other instruments like the djambe or something like that, can be a kind of synthetic fabric if it's affordable.
Appreciate any input!
Hi all- I'm cobsidering building a shanz, or sanxian. I've been enjoying the sound recently, but the instrument appears to be duying out across the eastern continent.
I wondered, what limitations the shamisen has for playing western music?
Is there anything I'm unable to play?
Thanks, Jonjo
I'm a guitarist of 6 years and have fallen in love with shamisen playing, especially tsugaru style. I was hoping someone on this sub could help me pick out my shamisen, so here are some notes.
If you're still reading thanks a ton! Resources online seem a bit limited so I would love if I can get an answer here. Appreciate it!
Not just looking for the synthetic skin made by master Japanese craftsmen that's still quite hard to get.
Not crazy about the best quality, just want to build something that works first. Considering other animal/synthetic skins however, similar to drum skins.
Appreciate any input!
- Also, as a side note, does anyone know if Japanese craftsmen still stretch their synthetic stuff as severely as the regular animal skin?
So in being frugal I've been searching ebay for a gem. which led me to further research body styles because I don't want to make a dumb impulse purchase. I found these two that are marked as Tsugaru, my intended purchase. Although from the research I've done the one's I'm about to link are jiuta and gidayu respectively. Just wanted to come here and see if anyone with more knowledge could confirm this for me, so I know I'm on the right path.
Iโve just discovered the shamisen and have fallen in love with the sound. Was wondering if their are any particular animes about the instrument or particularly good soundtracks
Title says it all, Iโve been hunting down a Japanese instrument I like but all the teachers and instruments seem to be from Japan which would make learning to play it along with repairs very expensive.

Hello all. Been researching shamisen all night as Iโd really like to play, and Iโve noticed the general consensus on the internet is that Kyle Abbotโs book is the best and cheapest route to a shamisen of oneโs own.
Iโd like to know specifically, how much money would this venture cost somebody, start to finish? I donโt have much more than simple woodworking tools, will probably have to buy some, and I have no materials. I want to know how much this all will cost in the long run, before I commit to buying the book and going through it.
TL;DR How much does building a shamisen with Kyle Abbotโs book cost? Thanks to anyone who reads and answers.
Hey all. I am thinking about buying a shamisen. Itโs such a heavy initial investment though. If anyone around here happens to play and is interested in giving me a little tutoring lesson to help me decide, thatโd be great. Thanks.
Whoever played the Shamisen in that Wano Kuni theme really out thier whole Shaminussy into it because that shitโs been on replay since Wano dropped on the anime ๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฏ it really doesnโt have to go that hard!!!!
Per 1032, if that person really is Komurasaki, there is another on Onigashima besides Orochi that have been in mourning over her death, Queen.
I predict Komurasaki/Hiyori could possibly be used as a literary gag/device to simultaneously make the Queen v. Sanji fight even more interesting.
Obviously, the first thing to address is the snake problem, but after doing so, here is how I can see her influencing Queen v. Sanji:
Thanks for coming to my teD talk.
Apologies if your genre was missed!
Looking forward to seeing your answers.
Hello everyone,
I am looking for a good notation program for the shamisen if anyone has any leads that would be great.
He may have around a million subscribers.
I'm looking for a very specific style of shamisen music. Light, instrumental, in the style of casual Western background music but with various Edo instruments. I am not looking for visual kei or other hard rock/metal music.
Most shamisen music tends to fall in one of three categories:
traditional stuff, the tsugaru shamisen music. Awesome, but dated. Not the fusion I'm looking for.
cover music. Many of those dudes are talented, but I'm not looking to hear Cruel Angel's Thesis played on Japanese banjo, I want relatively complex compositions and full albums to listen to while I sip tea and rice wine.
the hard stuff. Very cool idea for fusion music, makes you feel like you're watch a samurai battle and great for running, but not the energy I'm looking for. This includes Yoshida Brothers and Wagakki Band (best known for Senbonzakura).
I have found a little bit of shamisen jazz like this and this, but they're not quite the vibe I'm looking for. If anything, they seem to be led by Western instruments in a slight Japanese style, rather than the opposite which I'm looking for.
I suppose this is the best example I can give: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEyispEWjsA. This one checks all the boxes: groovy, nice bass line, very forward on shamisen and a few other Edo performance instruments, no dominating electric guitar or double-pedal drum.
Do you think Apoo and Queen will interrupt their fights to interact with the Shamisen sound? I mean they're great musicians
I am doing a presentation in class and I wanted to show something other then instrumental ost. If anyone knows I would very much appreciate the help!
Osts are fine but openings and endings are better.
Hi, I really want to start out the tsugaru shamisen but I don't understand the types listed in this website
http://www.tutayagakki.com/page/tugaru.html#kodomo
Can you guys explain what stuff like Nobu Sawari Higashitsugaru Sawari means and how they it differs from the rest? Thanks
I'm new to the shamisen community so I apologize for the lack of knowledge in terminology. I'm from the Philippines and I recently aquired a shamisen for pretty cheap. The only problems with this instrument were that the trings were broken, (I already know where to source them and how to place them) and the skin was ripped on both sides as well. I also have a source for the skin but the only problem is, I don't know what adhesive to use. I heard that traditionally they use a rice-based paste but when I look online, the only rice paste I find is for wallpaper. Anyone know any reliable alternatives that would work?
