A list of puns related to "Liz Shaw"
What are peoples thoughts on Liz?
Iβm disappointed she didnβt hang around for longer, despite Jo being excellent. I just thought Liz deserved much more and brought something really different, being a match to the doctor. Particularly in Inferno, sheβs excellent!
So what do you think? Am I in the minority?
Yes, the ball is rolling now! We're well into a new Doctor, and he's now exiled to Earth, spending his time tinkering with gadgets and thingamajigs, itching after a way to gain his Time Traveling knowledge back. Enter Liz Shaw, a scientific advisor with a nose to rival the Doctor's.
Her stint in the show wasn't for long, but boy was she a great companion. She had the smarts, an impeccable taste in 70's fashion and an overall great presence. She seems to be a no nonsense character, not afraid to argue with the Doctor.
Now, what happened to Liz? She kind of just disappear in the show, replaced with a hamfisted bum vendor we're not going to address for another week or so.
What stories adds to the Liz lore? Be it comics, audio or novels. I feel like Third Doctor stuff almost always teams up Three and Jo, which is unfair, as Liz is just as much a Third Doctor exclusive companion (I believe she has appeared in Fourth and Fifth Doctor stories.
Show me what you got, as I love Liz, no matter how unprofessional that is of me as an objective Companion Thread writer.
Last weeks thread here
I'm currently in the middle of "The Ambassadors of Death" and can't get over what a great character Liz is.
She reminds me a lot of the Doctor: she's disdainful of military authority, with all its security passes and salutes and tendency to resort to force; she's skeptical, but open to believing the extraordinary when presented with good reason to do so; she remains level-headed and even optimistic when faced with danger; and she often displays a peculiar combination of sarcasm and good-humoredness.
But she's also a bit more willing to pick her battles, and her self-confidence can be more understated than the Doctor. Indeed, I'm tempted to say she seems more mature than he does at times!
Anyway, I'd love to hear what others think of Liz! She's been easily one of my favorite parts of Season 7 so far--and there's quite a lot to like in this season.
I would pick either Martha or Donna for new who. For classic though, I'd pick Liz Shaw.
McCoy and Hurt are probably their least favourites, McCoy for being the darkest Doctor yet and I'm sure a lot of their other incarnations would not agree with everything he did, and Hurt for obvious reasons.
Hartnell maybe for nostalgia, the Doctor rememberign growing up on Gallifrey, especially after they lost it... again. Although he did run away.
I don't think it would be Pertwee because of the exile (although he did grow to love it and in his regeneration call it home, which was an incredibly sweet moment.) I do think that Pertwee might have had a lot of the Doctor's favourite companions (In his fourth incarnation he called Sarah Jane his best friend, Jo Grant had amazing chemistry with the Third Doctor, and the Third Doctor I think respected Liz Shaw a lot and aside from maybe Romana, saw her as the closest companion to being his equal)
They were Matt Smith for the longest, but that might make them sick of it having the same face for 1100 years...
Don't think it would be Davison, because the Doctor probably still blames themself for Adric's death given even when 5 was regenerating he was thinking of Adric.
The Doctor might think of early Capaldi badly, as much as I love him, because I think they might not like some of the actions he did in Into the Dalek and Mummy on the Orient Express, as well as obviously Kill the Moon.
Eccleston spent most of his life just full of regret, I doubt they look back on that fondly.
Tennant was full of hubris and the whole Time Lord Victorious thing would probably sour him on that face.
Six/Colin Baker was... well six, if we are going by what was shown on TV.
IIRC the Doctor partially blames their fourth incarnation in Tom Baker for the Time War, because of Genesis of the Daleks being the instigstor of conflict between Daleks and Time Lords.
I think when the Doctor regenerates they won't like Whittaker for the whole morality thing and letting a bunch of the universe die
So I think the answer is probably 1, 2 or 11. I'd place my bets on 2.
What do you think?
Introduction β What is the Doctor Who EU and why is it different from other franchises
Doctor Who is far from the only franchise to have an expanded universe. There are many other franchises that share such a concept, Star Trek and Star Wars to name two.
But Doctor Whoβs EU is very different from the EUβs of other franchises in a core way that makes a Star Wars Legends style erasure of the EU not only a bad idea, not only actively harmful to the franchise, but would likely entirely kill Doctor Who.
The first and most obvious reason why Doctor Whoβs EU is different from others is that there is no defined canon in Doctor Who. In franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, canon is defined such that the central seminal works override all supplementary ones, with other forms of media being entirely subservient to the main work.
Doctor Who is different, Doctor Whoβs EU is not subservient to the show, to make this obvious I need only point to the Virgin New Adventures, which were considered at the time the undeniable official continuation of Classic Doctor Who. The VNAs were Doctor Who from 1990-1996, every single major fan or official body agreed such a thing.
Now, one might bring up the BBCβs policy that βA TV Show must not require any supplementary material to be completeβ and argue that said policy qualifies as an indicator that the TV show is in some way superior or βmore validβ but that restriction is not one borne from the creative team, merely a studio mandated accessibility clause. This is evidenced by the fact that, in spite of this, the TV Show still does reference the EU explicitly and undeniably in multiple instances. (See the bottom of this post for examples)
Now, some want to draw a line between the TV and non-TV content by virtue of medium and consider the TV content more valid for that reason. But there is no non-arbitrary justification for that. For instance, the idea that Zygon: When Being You Isnβt Enough is a piece of TV content and is therefore more valid than President Romana or Bernice Summerfield is completely nonsense.
And if you try to limit it to specifically βThe Doctor Who TV Showβ to exclude the BBV content, and thus also kicking out Torchwood, SJA and Class. Then what is your justification for considering both New and Classic Who canon? Since both New Who and Classic Who are entirely separate shows and Classic in no way references New Who in any way, whilst New frequently references both Classic and the EU. Making any re

One word. Oral. Two words. Oral Surgery
I had to make an emergency dentist appointment due to a broken tooth and I have a phobia and major anxiety around the dentist. Normally I am able to due full sedation but not this time. The whole time I just kept thinking of Liz, and it helped me stay calm. Maybe I will meet my Wesley Snipes, or go home and put a waffle in the DVD player and talk about how Nicole Kidman deserves an Oscar for it. If Liz can do it, I can do it.
I know itβs early but Happy Anna Howard Shaw Day to us all! Season 4, Episode 13 Anna Howard Shaw Day
So Iβm really much more of a Troughton or Pertwee guy. But I sat down and watched the new episode yesterday. And I have to say I was very impressed.
I enjoyed Jodie Whitakerβs incarnation. It was different yet just familiar enough. JUST
Yas is a decent, bold enough companion. Lessβ¦ βdamsel in distressβ plot point and more in line with a Liz Shaw figure to me - I.e. bold enough to challenge the Doctor, and knows a bit about the situation.
John Bishop injects a nice amount of humour into it, Iβm not a fan of his comedy routines normally but it was enough to be pleasant.
I think they did a good job of building the tension of βthe universe goes bangβ deal and the doors flinging open at the end to reveal the doom and then the hard cut to the credits was a great ending. And I love having the Sontarans in it.
My biggest issue was the reliance on the screwdriver to advance the plot, to provide exposition, then bang next scene.
Overall, very enjoyable. Will enjoy the next episode Iβm sure.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Three major developments occurred in the Fall of 1990 with Katarina and Raymond. Two of them surround and take place after the main event of Masha being taken from the Summer Palace in Canada by Raymond. What is both irrational and perplexing is that these two other developments clearly contradict one another. How is it that Katarina had no problem framing Raymond for a crime he did not commit as was allegedly revealed in the Minister D tape, and yet within that same time period according to Red in 3.14, Katarina, at some point after the kidnapping in the Fall of 1990 was also fighting for her and Raymond to be a family and wanted him back? She wanted him back and for them to be a family, but at the same time had no problem with the idea of framing him in which by default would force him to be a criminal on the run forced away from Katarina and Masha?Β Something is obviously not right with this picture.
Red: Your parents loved each other very muchβ¦
Your mother, despite what heβd done,Β she wanted him back.Β She wanted them to be a family
I would also like to mention that I believe this detail has been forgotten about over time since it was last discussed five seasons ago. And because of this it has been neglected and many analyses since when debating the true nature of the relationship between Raymond (the real/original) and Katarina. Especially following the Minister D episode from season 6 and the recorded call between Katarina and Fitch.
So here is the simple question. How would Katarinaβs βbetter wayβ approach by framing him help themΒ be a family?
βAnd Iβm telling you thereβs a better wayβ
How was this the best way when she also was fighting for her family that included Raymond?
Red: Your parents loved each other very muchβ¦
Your mother, despite what heβd done,Β she wanted him back.Β She wanted them to be a family
In fact it would only serve to hurt and destroy her cause she was fighting for because there was no way they could be a family if Raymond was a criminal on the run. He would be forced away from Katarina and Masha. Completely the opposite result of what Red told Liz her mother wanted and was fighting for. She would have been responsible for killing her own aspirations. Putting so much of her energy into fighting for her family and yet in absolutely perplexing fashion a

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
