A list of puns related to "Liquidambar"
I'm about to plant three youngish trees at the back of our garden. They're each about 4m tall, and coming in pots from a nursery. Advice on getting them off to a good start would be hugely appreciated! Horse manure? Constant watering? Anything to watch out for, or make sure not to do? (I'm in Ireland btw, south of Dublin. The ground is very wet this time of year, but it's rarely very cold.)
edit: I just read u/spiceydog's fantastic response to a similar question and will follow that advice
My germination rates are pretty good and I'm potting on using a general purpose garden centre mix but its a bit lacklustre and I'm having to supplement with a lot of liquid feeding. Would a mix of 1/3 composted cow or chicken manure and 2/3 mix be more suitable with a slow release general purpose osmocote on top?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Most of my neighbors have liquidambar trees that turn a vivid red in the autumn, like the leaf on the left in the attached picture. For some reason ours turns a muddy brown, like the leaf on the right. A landscaper thinks ours is the "Burgundy" variation, which turns purple according to the Sunset Western Garden book, while the neighbor's is the "Palo Alto" variation. However, to my eye it doesn't look very purple or dark red. Did we just get get a bum tree?
