A list of puns related to "Lever Tumbler"
Hey guys,
I'm not entirely sure if this is the right place to post this, and I feel like such a newbie, posting this among all of these other advanced posts.
Anyway.
A few days ago I knew nothing about keys or locks.
However, the need to obtain a key-copy arose, and I thought it might be fun to try to do it myself (odd, I know, but I'm that sort of person).
So I started trying to get a basic understanding of locks, and I figured that the lock is a lever tumbler lock, as the key looks exactly like the one shown in the animated GIF on this article.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lever_tumbler_lock
I then discovered that these locks are often referred to erroneously as "mortise" locks, despite the fact that mortise refers to the way it embeds into the door, rather than the actual lock mechanism.
(Please correct me if I'm wrong here)
So I've been trying to locate a source of the correct key blank, however I've noticed that most key blanks sold are for pin-tumbler locks, and there seems to be a lack of the kind I need, however I have seen some for sale on eBay that might be suitable.
It's worth noting at this point that I have constant access to the key and the lock, and I'm in no particular hurry to copy the key.
To my untrained eye, the key looks like it would be pretty easy to copy, as the original actually looks quite crudely done, with some bumps in the cut areas like it has been cut with multiple attempts using a cutting wheel, and the bumps haven't been filed down.
So I'm thinking that with a vice, some files, a saw, etc, and some patience, continually trying it in the lock until it works smoothly, I should be able to do it.
So in my search for a key blank, I have noticed that the dimensions of the key bit are usually given as width and height in millimetres, but the thickness seems to be in "gauge".
I contacted one seller to ask him about what "7 gauge" means and he responded that it is 3.5 to 4mm.
The bit of my key is about 2mm thick, but I've tried, and tried... And tried to find a table or a chart of key gauges and their equivalent in millimetres, to no avail.
In fact I can't even find any reference to this "gauge" measurement, so I've no idea why this information is unavailable, or maybe I am looking at the problem wrongly.
Either way, I need to know the thickness of the bit before I purchase a key blank, but the "gauge" value given
... keep reading on reddit β‘I received a safe in the mail today and I looked up what type of lock this safe has. From what I can figure it's a lever tumbler.
So I had two questions, firstly is this a lever tumbler lock?
Secondly, what are some methods for opening these. I'm very well practiced at pin tumblers, but this appears to be a totally different game!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm looking for advice that would give me a good idea of what an upward progression of difficulty might look like in the lever lock world.
I'm new to levers entirely, and don't know what I'm looking for. Mailbox, phone locks and safety deposit locks look fascinating.
I don't see many lever locks in the belt document. I'd like at least a rough idea of what to look for to get a nice upward curve in challenge.
These days I'm picking various blue and purple-level pin tumblers/wafers to give you an idea of my skill, though I have zero problems with starting at the bottom.
I bought a little old squire padlock on Ebay which just arrived. 4 levers, it says. Looked pretty simple.
Any recommendations for going beyond that?
(I'm in the US, if that is going to matter)
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

A door is locked, but a normal key won't work to open it. What odd item, or combination of items, does the party need to find to open the door?
Princess Michelle Dreemurr originated in Inseparable as one of Frisk and Charles' children. She later had a story specifically focusing around her, the Princess, the Songstress, and the Plushie. In it she, aged 12, stumbled through a portal in her room to another universe, having to team up with Sheila, an alternate version of herself from a different universe, and Sirale, a fluffy goat boy, to seal the fountain and return to their homes.
While this thread mainly covers The Princess, the Songstress, and the Plushie, it secondarily covers the other works by UnderAnon. Since the relation of this newest story to the original three is kind of ambiguous, feats from the original three works will be prepended with [OT].
Pilot on me!!
Christopher Walken
Nothing, he was gladiator.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
Asriel Dreemurr, Prince of Monsters, is a character in the Undertale fanfiction Inseparable. After the end of Undertale's True Pacifist Route, it's discovered that Frisk's SOUL is keeping Asriel from turning back into Flowey, as long as they stay near each other.
As all canonical fights involving Asriel also involve Frisk, you should check out her respect thread too.
This thread covers all works by UnderAnon as they all take place in the world of Inseparable. But since The Princess, the Songstress, and the Plushie's canonicity is kind of ambiguous, feats from that will be prepended with [PSP].
Since Asriel appears to get stronger when transformed, those feats will be prepended with [TF].
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!

So What did 3 say to 8 ?
