A list of puns related to "Laogai"
See title. I love how Lake Laogai was basically named Lake Brainwash By Force and I didnβt find this out until years after first seeing the show.
Roses are Red, Storm clouds are grey, There is no War in Ba Sing Se
I think the biggest issue I have with this episode is that both toph and aang can use their earthbending to see the world around them. Regardless of how good aang is they still have toph whoβs perfected it or near perfected it. So my question is; when they were looking for Appa in Lake Laogai why wasnβt toph leading the way? They let Jet take the lead but thereβs no way toph couldnβt have found where they were holding Appa. I understand it sets the plot up for the Earth king to trust them and all but still.
The Wikipedia article sadly seems to be a propaganda cesspool (it even has a slavery template lol) so I thought of asking here for some good reading material.
So this might be old news, but I realized this on my rewatch recently, their is some issues but to fix it you have to add unseen days where the Gaang did nothing that seem out of character for the Gaang.
I know some will say the scenes don't have to be necessarily in sequence, cinematic time, and Aang might be a new timezone in the Western Air Temple but he shouldn't be too far to affect stuff majorly. But trust me normal chronological order of scenes works for the most part.
Their are two snags one of which is Zuko and Iroh's new upper ring apartment which I attempt to rectify. One way around this is to grant an extra off screen day for Zuko and Iroh to move to the upper ring at the end of "The Earth King" that occured out of sequence with Zuko's fever and requires the Gaang to hang out and party for a day instead of heading off in their separate ways for pressing concerns.
Another way is to have this off screen day occur while Sokka and Aang are traveling toward their destinations and Appa traveled really really fast on the way back. The only problem here is the Katara snag doesn't see or recognize the Kyoshi Warriors for two whole days or deliver the invasion plan for the same amount of time and not just one day which are both too implausible.
I personally think their was no off screen day in either scenario and the upper ring apartment is plothole, but tell me what you think.
The Katara snag is her meeting with the Council of Five. The Earth King appears to tell the Kyoshi Warriors the plan and the meeting is occuring concurrently where they tell her have the plans signed by the Earth King. This meeting appears before many Day Three events are shown on screen but the latter half "Katara finding Iroh and Zuko and trying to tell the Earth King and the Kyoshi Warriors and being captured" which had to occur shortly afterward and are shown after many Day Four events and appear to happen concurrently with Aang trying to open the last chakra on Day Four.
The only way to fix this is that Azula scenes have to happen out of sequence as we see the night in her make up cleaning scene. It is possible that Katara was captured on Day Three and those scenes were shown out of sequence and Aang only saw his vision on Day Four because Katara spent all day in chains, you just have to accept it occured before Azula cleaned her makeup and came up with her plan to conquer Ba Sing Se. This is the only coherent explanation I could use tomake sense of this without an
