So I’m just a show watcher, not a book reader, but Laila isn’t book canon anyway.
I just rewatched the first episode and I would like some other points of view, but in the fight at the forge with Laila + Perrin and the Trollocs, just as Perrin is wailing on that Trolloc, when he turns around Laila has her hammer lifted right above him, but no other Trollocs are around. The way they’re positioned doesn’t make it seem plausible that she was trying to hit the same Trolloc as him because he’d still be in the way. Which begs the question: was she trying to kill Perrin?
Earlier in the episode seemed pretty clear that she wasn’t super thrilled with him, and it seems the show is trying to lead us to believe that it has something to do with this Rand-Egwene-Perrin love triad they’re trying to force in, that seems like it might be a red herring and that maybe Laila was actually a Darkfriend. The second thing that I wonder (and this just might be more off-base due to lack of book context) is it maybe Perrins wolf boy powers somehow tipped him off and his reactive axe swing was more of a subconscious form of protecting himself.
I’d like to think think there’s something more to her death than just another woman in a fantasy series getting fridged.
Laila is not a Darkfriend, as some have suggested. She saw an opportunity to rid herself of Perrin's cheating ass and was taking full advantage. Change my mind.
Hello good evening, so I've been isolating because I caught Covid and so I've basically rewatched the series a good 4 times now. On my rewatches I keep asking more questions. If you could answer them that would be great!
Why didn’t Laila go to Egwene’s ceremony? And did Laila hate Perrin because she acted like she was with him under duress? No love from her at ALLLL! Also someone on twitter pointed out that maybe Laila was actually swinging for Perrin in episode 1 before he axed her down. And how did Perrin become a wolf person?
Also did that travelling salesman summon the dark one's army??

I haven't seen this shared on here yet and speculation keeps popping up, so I can only assume the news isn't widely known.
Rafe went on the Ringer-Verse podcast on Friday and was specifically asked about the Laila darkfriend theory. He shot it down immediately, saying unambiguously, "No, I think that's the wrong..." before changing gears mid-sentence and connecting her show existence to book references (he answered the previous question with his justification for why he went with that plot line in the context of Perrin's inner turmoil). I think we can safely discard that theory—it didn't feel like there was a hint of Aes Sedai trickery in his response.
The whole pod is worth a listen. If you're not familiar with Mal and the history of Binge Mode / Ringer-Verse, the fact that she is hooked after the six screener episodes and is now reading the books basically guarantees us several hundred hours of high-quality content for as long as the show runs.

I was listening to a podcast with Rafe and the hosts put this fan theory to Rafe>! and he had an interesting answer.!<
It all starts with the question of why Laila was introduced in the first place. It starts around the last 10min mark (1hr 44m)

The podcast, in general, is quite a good listen as the 2 hosts and Zach Baron discusses what it is like to bring such a huge show to the screen on the heels of GoT and what the show means for Amazon.
There are some spoilery things in the pod for the show and books.
Zach's read the books and has written this piece for GQ on making this show. I think the 2 hosts have seen up to ep 6. So be careful if you don't want to ruin anything for yourselves. I'm only on Book 4 myself but I don't think it spoiled anything significant for me.
tl;dr is that one of the podcast hosts ask Rafe>! "Laila - Darkfriend?" and he immediately rejects the idea but then is curious as to what the actual theory is. !<

Laila, Perrin's wife, is clearly insecure about Egwene and Perrin. Further, Perrin's infatuation with Egwene has been a thing for a while -- or at least Nynaeve thinks so.
- Laila doesn't show up at Egwene's celebration. Nynaeve tells Perrin to go see her. Right before he goes, Perrin tells Nynaeve to give Egwene his best. Nynaeve looks uncomfortable.
- The first thing Perrin tells Laila is that he's heard she didn't even go to Egwene's ceremony. Laila looks uncomfortable.
- He walks up to her, hugs her, and tells her he loves her. She gulps and says I know (unconvincingly). Their whole interaction, in retrospect, is clearly about Laila being uncomfortable with Perrin's feelings for Egwene.
- Perrin also reproaches Laila for not being at the celebration in a way that's sure to make someone who's feeling insecure even more insecure.
- In bed, Laila caresses Perrin's wedding ring in a concerned way while he's sleeping.
It's clear, from later on, that Perrin actually did have feelings for Egwene. He's also almost resentful of Laila in the forge interaction.
Overall, it makes the impact of what happened after on Perrin very different, and probably even worse. Perrin's rage and then just flinging about to Laila -- shouldn't he have known she was there? Didn't they just have a fight? Did he really love her? Is part of him happy that she's gone and that he's on an adventure with Egwene?
It gives his character a lot of depth that he never had in the books. Lovely change in the new turn of the wheel, if you ask me.
It happened in a tent. Valda's Tent. But he didn't kill two Whitecloaks with his axe.
How much you guys wanna bet that the Whitecloak invasion of the Two Rivers in Book 4ish, and the trial in 13; are about wife-murder not killing two children of the light? They'll probably also mention consorting with the wolves, and that the wolves killed most of Valda's questioners, but the Laila thing is going to be a big deal.
His whole return to the Two Rivers subplot could be different if he's accused of murdering a local and he can't deny that he wielded the axe, Morgase' judgement is different, etc.
I don't like any of the emo backstories (I'm a they-ruined-my-40th-favorite-character-Abel-Cauthon guy), and this one has a fridging, but it's getting interesting.

This is a piece of pop culture, not a thought exercise. Any survey of reactions to Book 13 will find the vast majority of them hated the Perrin's Trial subplot, and it's largely because in fantasy mooks die all the time. The Whitecloaks would be expected to care that Perrin killed their mooks, but no reader actually gives a shit. Nobody was entertained. So this makes it possible for them to keep that subplot and not have it suck.
It also makes the subplot in 4 much more interesting, because if Perrin's accused of murdering Laila, and Perrin can't look her dad in the eye and say "It was a Trolloc," the Two Rivers political situation becomes much harder for him. Someone who would be expected to be a pillar of the pro-Perrin faction now has a reason to oppose it.

1-Most Creepy obsessive 2-Most Verbally abusive to the Girlfriend 3- Most manipulative with all the " You choose her over me?" 4- Most Deceitful (The BS Promise Ring was her idea and it was her Test. Of course she knew Emily would be upset, that's exactly why she said she would "accept her" if she accepted the ring. To make herself look good and set up Emily to look awful.
Of course Shekeb blindly bought into everything his mom said. Never pushed his mom to apologize to Emily, just told Emily to "forget the past and move on". And Emily fell into the trap aggressively by being totally disrespectful about the promise ring.
So, I've seen some people talk about how Laila might be a Darkfriend which to me seems a viable option. Mainly cause in the scene when Perrin kills her, you can clearly see her swinging her hammer down at him. She had a pretty good overview of the room and was facing Perrin directly so I doubt it wasn't intentional.
To add to that, I noticed that earlier in the scene when Perrin and Laila are in bed, you can see she has some weird scars the type of which I can't see her getting at the forge. They almost look talon or fang-like.
Tbh, I realy like this theory, makes for an easier redemption for our boy Perrin, while also doing what the showrunners meant it to.
Edit: I did not say this redeems Perrin in any sort of way, just that it gives options that they can explore later on. Like making it that his wolf instincts kicked in and he felt danger or whatever.
Edit 2: Forgot to mention the dream Perrin says where Laila is being eaten by a wolf, could have significance. Why would the wolf be eating her, when we as book readers know they hate anything that has anything to do with the Dark One?
With Rafe sort of shooting down the Laila darkfriend theory I was trying to think of other possible reasons on some of the Laila weirdness.
Is it possible that Perrin already started manifesting his wolfbrother abilities which Laila noticed? Perhaps she's seen him interact with wolves at some point and might have drawn the wrong conclusion that he's a male channeler. This might explain the awkwardness at the forge and the "I know" line from the dream. It might also explain her seemingly trying to hit him with a hammer. Maybe she thought that he was already turning mad when he was repeatedly hacking that trolloc.
It's a bit flimsy but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Also, is there any significance to Perrin's pinky finger? I was rewatching some of the Laila scenes to see if my theory had any support and I noticed that in a lot of the scenes the camera focuses on her holding Perrin's pinky finger. This happens in the forge scene where he hugs her belly, the morning in bed scene, and the latern scene.
