One of my chief issues post-COVID has been gut-related problems (IBS-C specifically). The bloating gets so bad that my belly distends like a beach ball sometimes and I feel like it's difficult to take deep breaths. I also have a feeling it's causing gastrocardiac syndrome (when my gut's bloated, I have more frequent PVCs/skipped heartbeats). So far none of the probiotic supplements I've taken have helped, and I've been eating a mostly whole food plant-based diet for nearly 3 years now, so I know I get a reasonable amount of fibre. I did have similar issues pre-COVID, but after COVID they got much worse.
I noticed a while back someone on this sub posted about a study looking at the impact of post-COVID probiotic supplementation to reduce symptoms, and followed the breadcrumbs to find the study itself here. Looks like this was the mix of pre-/probiotics they used in the study (daily):
Has anyone tried such a protocol before for treating their post-COVID gut issues? If so, what kinds of prebiotics and/or strains of probiotics worked for you?
I have been taking a 20 billion count (78 mg) probiotic with: Lactobacillus Casei, Lactobacillus Paracasei, Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Bulgaricus, Bifidobacterium Bifidum, Lactobacillus Rhamnosus, Lactobacillus Brevis, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Lactobacillus Salivarius, and Bifidobacterium Lactis with Inulin 200mg. It says it contains a minimum of 14 billion by "Best Used By Date." Anyways the probiotic has been reformulated by the manufacturer (now has vitamin C, completely different probiotic strains and chicory root) and it is the only one that helped my bowel movements remain regular, I've tried 50 billion count by other brands and it just made me very naceous but didn't help my bowel movements. I am wondering if there are certain probiotics from this list that help a person have more regular bowel movements because this usually helped 70% of the time when paired with Benefiber but Benefiber or this probiotic mixture never helped when taken individually. I should state that my gastroenterologist wants me to try probiotics and fiber before turning to more "aggressive" meds such as Mirilax daily paired with Ducolax or to drink a gallon of colonoscopy prep at certain intervals to keep me from having complications from constipation. I can't take otc meds such as Ducolax, etc due to severe vertigo/heart palpitations/nausea from vertigo on meds (waiting to see endocrinologist, neurologically normal/brain/inner ears normal according to brain MRI w/o contrast).
I have been reading into this specific probiotic for it's capability to boost immune system against viruses. We know some of us have weakened immune systems and have low lymphocytes/CD4/CD8 T cells. This could be driving long covid.
There's one probotic that seems of interest (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 6086). It has been studied in HIV and H1N1 patients as it stimulates immune system against viruses.
Medscape.com: "Trial Launched to Assess Effect of Probiotic on CD4 Cell Count in HIV-Positive Patients
August 11, 2010 — A first-in-kind clinical trial of a patented strain of the probiotic Bacillus coagulans has been launched to assess its effect on immune function, including CD4 cell counts, in HIV-positive patients. The B coagulans strain under study is GanedenBC30, also known as B coagulans GBI-30 or PTA-6086, and is the active ingredient in Sustenex, Ganeden's dietary supplement."
ResearchGate: "Effects on Antibody Production
Consuming 1 capsule/day of Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086 (GanedenBC30) for 28 days increased CD3+CD69+ cells and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) levels (Kimmel et al., 2010). Moreover,Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus OLL1073R-1 (1073R-1)increased anti-influenza virus (A/PR/8/34 (H1N1)) an-tibodies (IgA, IgG1) in animal model (Nagai et al., 2011). Interestingly, heat-killed Lactobacillus plantarum L-137 can act as an IFN-βinducer (Maeda et al., 2009)."
Anyone used it with success?
EDIT: I have misinterpreted the source article on long covid. CD4 & CD8 T cells numbers appear to not be lower in long haulers. Apologies. That said, I have placed an order for probiotic Bacillus coagulans GBI-30 and will report my findings.
Yogurt in India is commonly known as Dahi and has been a part of the Indian diet for several millennia. Yogurt comes from the Turkish word “Yogurmak” which in literal terms means to thicken/curdle. Yogurt is a fermented milk product that provides digestive lactose on consumption. It has defined viable bacterial strains (usually Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus). These bacteria help to improve the digestive system and processes. Yogurt is very delicious and eating it regularly can boost several aspects of one’s health. In this article, we will read about how yogurt has impressive health benefits on the human body.

Yogurt is a popular dairy product made by the bacterial fermentation of milk. These typically include the bacteria cultures of Streptococcus thermophilus and Lactobacillus bulgaricus. The process of fermentation produces lactic acid that causes the milk proteins to curdle, given the unique flavor and texture of milk. Yogurt in India is known as dahi and it is prepared in almost every household for daily consumption. Indian history has observed dahi as a way of preservation of milk. There are more than 700 yogurt and cheese products found in Indian food recipes.
Not only India, but yogurt has its use dated back to 6000BC from around the world. Especially in Turkey, Greece, Egypt, and India.
Let us now read about the 7 scientific and impressive health benefits of yogurt.
Yogurt is extremely rich in important nutrients required by your body on a daily basis. It is known to be containing a lot of calcium content. One cup of curd every day can fulfill almost half of your daily calcium needs. It is extremely rich in Vitamin B and Vitamin D which boosts the immune system, strengthens bones and orthopedic parts of the body, regulates blood pressure, and prevents cardiovascular diseases One cup of curd provides the body with the following percentages of the daily requirement of intake:
Calcium: 48%
Phosphorus: 38%
Magnesium: 12%
Potassium: 18%
Since yogurt is extremely rich in proteins, it supports metabolism by increasing energy expenditure. It also increases the production of

Although I said Yogurt, its probably more correctly, Kefir as I used 1tsp of a live kefir I bought in a supermarket as it said it had 14 cultures:
Bifidobacterium infantis
Bifidobacterium lactis
Lactobacillus acidophilus
Lactobacillus bulgaricus
Lactobacillus delbrueckii subspecies lactis
Lactobacillus fermentum
Lactobacillus paracasei
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
Lactococcus lactis subspecies cremoris
Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis biovar diacetylactis
Lactococcus lactis subspecies lactis
Leuconostoc mesenteroides
Leuconostoc pseudomesenteroides
Streptococcus thermophilus
I will try using just live yogurt next time for 'Real Yogurt'

I accidentally posted this on my own profile instead of r/candida and I thought I was being censored! LOL (thanks u/sexyama for clearing that up). I’m taking that as a cosmic sign to be less critical of the organizations involved in keeping us sick. Also, I’m not going to go into detail about my personal health, like I did initially. We all have/had health issues here, no need to know my specific situation.
I mostly just lurk on reddit, but now that I’ve come across this sub and it seems that no one really knows that their die-off symptoms can be treated by sweating, I’ve been inclined to share.
I didn’t have to do much digging to conclude that Dr. McCombs Candida Plan is the most effective, thorough, and safe treatment there is for systemic candidiasis. This treatment has been around since the 90s and it involves changing your diet, 10-Undecenoic Acid (derived from castor bean oil), a detox supplement, a probiotic supplement, and sweating. Here is the McCombs Candida Diet Plan as written in the book, “LifeForce” (2001). (The book says that these two pages are allowed to be photocopied)
Note: lifeforceplan.com is now candidaplan.com (I think it sounded too New-Age). Also, there’s controversy whether Bragg’s Liquid Aminos is safe. I decided not to use it. I emailed Jeffrey McCombs and he said coco aminos are not a suitable replacement and not to use it for the first 8 weeks, “just use spices and herbs to season your meals”.

“YES” FOODS: All meats (except pork), vegetables, fruits (except oranges), eggs, brown rice, rice cakes (plain) hot brown rice cereal (plain), tea, coffee.
For cooking or salad dressing, we recommend using cold-pressed olive, apricot, coconut, and almond oils (most other oils are toxic to the body). Seasonings include: Bragg’s Liquid Amino Acids, salt, pepper, etc. (as long as there are no sugars, yeast, or anything not allowed on the PLAN. We recommend naturally raised and organic foods

First of all sorry if this is not the correct subreddit.
I have started taking Lepicol (https://www.lepicol.com/about-lepicol/13-what-is-lepicol) and I am thinking of taking it long-term since it has been quite helpful.
The following probiotic strains are present:
Lactobacillus rhamnosus PXN® 54™
Bifidobacterium bifidum PXN® 23™
Lactobacillus acidophilus PXN® 35™
Lactobacillus plantarum PXN® 47™
Lactobacillus bulgaricus PXN® 39™
Would you recommend it for long-term usage or do you think it might be harmful?
Thank you
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The nurse asked the rabbit, “what is your blood type?”
“I am probably a type O” said the rabbit.
The doctor says it terminal.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
Do your worst!
How the hell am I suppose to know when it’s raining in Sweden?
We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
Ants don’t even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.
