A list of puns related to "Labium"
Update: I already bought a yrs-23 and the problem is gone. Thank you all for helping.
I did it waaay back in middle school at the music class while trying to push the inner part of the mouth way (i tought it was removable like on cheaper recorders) and dented it with my pen :( . I kinda fixed it and it was still working better than those cheap recorders so i didnt pay much attention. Fast forward 5 years, I got bored and decided to learn how to play a recorder. Ive been good so far and ive learned a few songs (not some beginner stuff, i mean proper songs) and i seem to have problems with the higher octaves. Anything beyond sol (the higher one, i guess thats 2nd octave) is super hard to perfect. I mostly gotta do T instead of D and you might say half open is hard but i can do it on any other note bellow that. Is something wrong with me or should i get a new recorder?

As the scheme suggests, everyone that talks about the labium alignment, everywhere, always claims that the labium alignment is absolutely critical, and that the labium must be aligned with the middle of the windway to split the airflow like a wedge (some sources claim it must be 2/3rds of the way down instead of halfway, but this is beyond the scope of this question).
However, not in all videos about ocarina making the question about the alignment is raised, and in most of the ones that don't talk about the alignment, it appears that the mouthpiece is shaped all around the slot stick, that is then removed, leaving this way the labium completely above the airflow, aligned with the top of the windway, and the ocarinas still sound.
I didn't question at first the explanations about the alignment, and assumed the ones that didn't talk about it just pushed down the labium without explaining it, and it just wasn't apparent from the footage. I had some of my first experiments (I've just started, and as a sculptor I want to make some heavily ornate ocarinas) actually have trouble producing sound, and I thought it was because I wasn't being precise enough with the alignment, since fiddling with that area actually changed the (still poor) results. Most videos and written explanations, included the ones in the book by R. Hickman, always talk about the bad alignment of the labium as normal cause of the lack of sound if everything else is clean and well shaped.
Then, today, I decided to experiment some more to try to find out truthfulness of a formula to define the needed chamber volume to get a specific note out of an ocarina without having to just fiddle with it blindly. While making the main ocarina for the experiment, I made a small second one for fun, shaping it as a cockatiel, the idea was to have two very different shapes to test my suspicion that the failed tests didn't sound not for the labium alignment, but actually for the angle the airflow had against the chamber when entering, that is more difficult to get precisely with the common "stabbing" method, and I suspected it was more critical than it seemed, its criticality being mostly overlooked in explanations, probably being simply considered "too obvious", but it's not that obvious for beginners.
To my total surprise, testing the cockatiel without touching the labium at all a
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello again, thank you all for helping me on my last post, that really helped clear things up for me. Another question, ever since I learned that the labium is a delicate part of the recorder and that you should not mess with it, I have become extremely worried that I may accidentally touch it or do something else to mess it up to the point where I canβt get a good sound anymore. I believe I may have touched it a couple of times on accident, but that was before I knew it was not good to do that. How bad is it really to touch the labium? Could you touch it a bit if your finger is covered with a material like a glove or something, or should you refrain from doing it at all? If anyone has any tips or information to help me hopefully not damage my instrument, that would be greatly appreciated. Have a great rest of your night!!
Hello, I just got my first Ocarina, it was one of those cheap 12 dollar ones from ebay. Out of the box, it would seem to be a piece of junk, it can only enunciate four notes and even they are very windy. Anything higher falls apart. Having a lot of experience with native american flutes, I put my thumb over the Labium to try and manipulate it to get a better sound, this works. The notes I can play (few, as to be expected using a thumb for this) with my thumb in this position are very clear.
I don't want to just abandon the instrument without trying to fix it, since it does look nice and if I can get a decent sound out of it I'll be happy, it doesn't have to be perfect.
What's the best way to manipulate the shape of the Labium permanently? I'm convinced if I could bring it up closer to the windway and maybe raise it up a bit it should sound proper. I was thinking wax or maybe nail-polish, but in all honesty I have no experience here with this instrument. Any suggestions?
Fucker was hanging out under my 12mm 3/8th drive socket in my toolbox... I can perhaps upload a tiny picture tomorrow in the daylight. Any chance of ID perps?

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
