The town was also a popular coaching stop, which bought many distinguished visitors. The most popular coaching inn was on King Street. Originally known as The George and Dragon, it later became The George Hotel. In 1832 it became the Royal George Hotel following Princess Victoria's stay just five years before becoming Queen.
