DDOT requested a couple of changes in interstate numbers in DC, and the changes appear to have been approved. See this PDF starting on page 59.

Here's a basic summary:

• Part of what is now I-395 will become I-195. This is the section also known as the 3rd Street Tunnel or Center Leg Freeway. This will extend from the Southeast/Southwest Fwy or I-395/I-695 interchange north to its terminus at New York Ave.
• I-695 (Southeast Freeway) will become part of I-395. (If I'm not mistaken, was the SE Fwy once part of I-295?)

Here is why DDOT requested the changes:

>This request is for a change in Interstate route number to reduce motorist confusion and improve safety along I-395, in Washington, DC.

>Currently, motorists traveling on I-395 in the District of Columbia must exit right at the I-395/I-695 interchange to remain on I-395. The I-395 then turns north and enters the 3rd St tunnel before terminating at New York Avenue NW (arterial). At the I-395/I-695 interchange the three primary lanes of the facility (the I-395 lanes from Virginia) becomes the I-695.

>Motorists are often surprised and confused by the atypical conditions presented by the termination of the I-395 and the beginning of the I-695 in Washington, DC., and safety studies indicate that over 100 crashes annually are associated with weaving activity as a result of the unexpected exit condition experienced on approach to the I-395/I-695 interchange. Over the last five years, fixed object (attenuator) crashes at the I-395/I-695 diverge indicate 37 total crashes (17 injuries) with 13 crashes (6 injuries) directly attributed to exit condition confusion.

>Origin-destination studies have determined that approximately two-thirds of eastbound I-395 motorists travel through the I-395/I-695 interchange continuing onto I-695, which supports the continuation of I-395 along the existing mainline of I-695. This, in addition to the redesignation of I-395 along the 3rd St tunnel section to I-195 (considered under a different application), will allow DDOT to present more typical guidance through the I-395/I-695 interchange and mitigate a portion of the current confusion-related crashes.

So there has been a lot of discussion recently of the ongoing popularity and viability of the CDL, and the "right" method for growing the league as a whole. While I don't necessarily know the right way to grow and protect the league (apart from the obvious things like not releasing unfinished garbage games) I thought it may be worthwhile to compile the statistics showing the state of the CDL, its players and teams over the last calendar year.

    • A man in his 90s from northern Sydney died at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.
    • A man in his 80s from northern Sydney died at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. Both these men were residents of Greenwood Aged Care in Normanhurst and acquired their infections in the aged care facility.
    • A woman in her 90s from south west Sydney died at Liverpool Hospital. She was a patient in the geriatric ward at the hospital and is the tenth death linked to this outbreak.
• There have been 11,395 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this outbreak was reported.

Five-day lockdown for Victoria

On the advice of the Acting Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government has announced a 5-day lockdown for the State of Victoria to commence at 11.59pm tonight (Thursday 15 July).

This lockdown has been put in place in response to our new cases of COVID-19, a large number of popular exposure sites and to combat the circulating strain of virus that is wildly infectious.
