A list of puns related to "Hypertonia"
Hello,
My son is in NICU he was born 35 weeks old he's now 37 weeks. Doctor says everything is looking good aside from feeding not totally ready yet , and he also has some signs of hypertonia. The doctor doesn't seem super concerned about it and is going to have a physical therapist work with us before we are discharged to help prevent any gross motor delays but I can't help but feel worried the hypertonia could be a sign of some other issue like cerebral palsy. They did a ton of tests on him including spine and brain scans and they all looked normal, but I'm still worried. It sounds like we won't know how it impacts him until he's much older...
Has anyone received a similar diagnosis and how did it work out?
As a PT student, I am now doing stroke rehab. I have a patient who has stroke 4 years ago. When I assessed in supine, I felt his calf is so hard and difficult to dorsiflex the ankle passively but MAS score is 0 because no catch noted in quick stretch. My educator said this was a orthopaedic problem muscle stiffness but not hypertonia. So how can I differentiate it is a hypertonia or simply muscle shortening as contracture ?
Hello all, I am looking for any and all resources, anecdotes, and therapies specifically for hypertonia!
After searching, I only found 4 old posts that reference hypertonia. Google results are overwhelmed by incontinence topics. Itβs very hard to find information. So please letβs keep this thread specific to hypertonia. If you want to sympathize, that is welcomed but talking about an unrelated issue only confuses the search results more.
I mentioned Google giving me unrelated search results. YouTube has been most helpful. Lots of physical therapists explaining the anatomy which is a great starting point to helping to heal our bodies.
With this problem, my muscles are not relaxing, I know it takes a long time to treat hypertonia. Stress is being reduced, stretching, meditation and relaxation exercises. Today I start heat treatments with a heating pad and plan to do them twice a day.
I have done a lot of research so far digging through the more common Pelvic Floor Dysfunction topics, so I can note some disjointed findings for hypertonia:
local heat treatment helps relax the muscles, visualization and meditation, stress reduction and emotional well-being garners relaxation of the muscle as well. Digital manipulation of the internal muscles, and dilators. Botox, and prescription muscle relaxers. Professional pelvic floor physical therapist.
Please respond with your hypertonia experiences, cost of therapies, duration of therapies, your own theories, etc.
My surgeon diagnosed me with hypertonia of the anal sphincter and told me to go home and visualize it relaxing. Probably just a βnot my problemβ move, since other surgeons may have recommended a physical therapist. I am in LA and even though barely anyone is acting like it, itβs still Covid times. Not sure if that explains the brush-off from my surgeon, but thatβs an exchange I may never know the intent behind.
I understand that different things cause hypertonia in the pelvic floor and so treatment will be different for everyone.
The purpose of this post is to have a conversation about hypertonia in the pelvic floor and hopefully gather a wide range of experiences with hypertonia so that people can find this when they search βhypertoniaβ. Too often people believe it will never get betterβand I can see why. So success stories are encouraged.
Thank you for your time! Blessings.
I recently kind of self-diagnosed myself with hypertonic pelvic floor disorder. I did speak to a specialist over the phone who all but confirmed (said all my symptoms pointed to it). My partner is a PA and I am a nurse so we are hesitant about self diagnosis but ultimately I think we're on the right track for this.
Anyways, I have looked into pelvic floor PT but unfortunately I live in NYC and all the people I've found who specialize in it are prohibitively expensive and out of network. I am starting to see an acupuncturist and will likely see a general PT for my back and leg pain.
My question is- have any of you used the Intimate Rose Pelvic Wand for trigger point release of your pelvic floor? I'm a little nervous to try it, but also excited at the idea of it providing some relief.
I have a chronic fissure for two years, Iβve been doing anal dilation which is helping from what I can tell, but my entire anus is very tight. Poops come out flat like they are being squished.
Iβm scared I may have anal stenosis which means I will require anoplasty and that would be horrible, or will lis fix the narrow passage in my rectum?
Immediately after a poop there is swelling, by the evening itβs gone down considerably and I can fit a finger in much easier but Iβm worried Iβll have lis... the fissure may cure but Iβll still have a tight a hole and need even more risky surgery...
Iβve also been taking macrogol long term (osmotic laxative) and now I researched that because my stools arenβt too firm that itβs not stretching my sphtincer enough. But scared to stop them as itβll just potentially re tear my non bleeding fissure
Hypertonia is when the muscles around your bum wonβt relax. It is common with rectal surgeries and can be made worse with stress.
Fistula is a stressful condition, naturally. My CRS told me hypertonia is fairly commonβwhen I had it.
It would have been nice to know about this on DAY ONE.
So Iβm telling everyone here... take care of your stress/donβt clench/do exercises that stretch snd relax the hips. They are linked together, all of the pressure and stress of the area and the fistula. Pain can make you clench without knowing it. Trauma to the area can cause hypertonia. Even if you feel like your mood is great, it could be happening.
Be well. β€οΈπΏ
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone here he actually had a diagnosis of stenosis. I am so tight... hate to be graphic but I can only just tolerate a finger up there... what would be classified as stenosis? Really worried at this point not even LIS would be enough...
Hey everyone, I'm looking for the correlation between post trip hypertonia and dosage. If anyone has any info im very interested in learning more. It seems that every time I go 4th plateau the next morning my muscles are stiff and rigid, which I just found out is called hypertonia. I want to know more about the chemical process behind this. Thank you!
Iβve been trying to do PT for my scapula stabilizer muscles because theyβre so weak and itβs causing lots of upper back, neck, and shoulder pain. But any time I try to do the exercises, the next day Iβm in SO much pain for days because my muscles are so tight and they just donβt calm down. Iβve always had issues with tight muscles and as a teen before I even fully developed fibromyalgia, I was told my muscles were hypertonic.
Do any of you also struggle with muscle spasticity and rigidity? What do you do for it?
Hi everyone!
So I took my blood pressure today, and had 110/93 mmHg, pulse 99.
I was stressed going to my doctor but had calmed down a bit, though she said that I still seemed stressed right before taking my blood pressure.
Iβm 27F, 171 cm (5β7β) and weigh about 75-80 kg (~165-176 pounds, I havenβt weighed myself so guesstimating, but I have gained a lot of weight). I smoke, I take Sertralin, Concerta and Lamictal. No drugs or alcohol. Depression, ADHD and PTSD, also I was late to my appointment but had been sitting still and talking about 10-15 minutes before the blood pressure test.
The thing that scares and confuses me is my diastole. My medicine book says nothing about this, and what it can mean, only about high systole. Itβs a very basic book. Also, google isnβt helpful.
So what does it mean? Whatβs going on in my body? What can happen if I donβt fix this and how do I fix this?
I took 10 mg Inderal when I came home (I take them for panic attacks, bc I donβt like benzodiazepines), are they okay to take regularly? Forgot to ask my doc about that but she was the one who prescribed them.
Iβve had this weight before, and also been as low as 50 kg, and never had these huge shifts in blood pressure. Iβm normally 110-120/75-80, no matter my weight or medicine.
For as long as I (M28) can remember, the muscles in my mid-and-lower back have been tense and hard to the touch. A physical therapist once described it as βsevere tension that radiates out from and all along the spine.β I recently asked my friend (who is a certified yoga teacher) for possible stretches; she said that βit feels like cementβ and it feels like I βhave not one, but three spines running down my back.β
At birth, I had a nuchal cord. I also had severe language delays until the age of 4 (after SLP servicing) and choria which has improved, but never resolved itself. I was wondering if itβs plausible that this kind of tension in the back could be more than tight muscles and a form of hypertonia brought on from possible birth asphyxia?
What kind of doctor should I see for chronic back tension? Should I just see my GP first? Needless to say, it causes a lot of pain and limits my mobility and stamina by the end of the day.
I am a pediatric physical therapist working in early intervention (kids aged 0-3). I see a lot of kids for torticollis who also have high tone. Usually in one or both legs.
I've had disagreements with pediatricians on when to refer a child to neuro. Looking over the guidelines for referral, I see headache, seizure, and low tone with motor delay but no mention of hypertonia. I'd love insight as to why that is. I understand the nervous system changes a lot in the first two years especially, but any time I see abnormal tone with motor delay, I want to refer to neuro. Any idea why pediatricians shy away from a "premature" referral for hypertonia? For the pediatric neurologists out there, when do you want to see a kid with high tone and no other symptoms?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes
Punchline !
Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub
Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
But thatβs comparing apples to oranges
And boy are my arms legs.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
And now Iβm cannelloni
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
