A list of puns related to "Hnefatafl"
I wanted to write about hnefatafl I think it's better then chess here's what I had to say.1 it has many different areas to watch out for sense the defender is in the middle and the attackers on all four sides so you have to watch out.2 objective is better then chess the defender's have to get the king in to the corner there are four corners to go to.3 attacker's outnumber the defender's so it's not all about killing every single piece so it's more of running around and taking out once in a while.4 movement of pieces instead of the pieces all haveing different moves they all have the same moves either fully horizontal or fully vertically. Rating 9.5 out of 10 it's fun to play with friends or a relative
Not sure wether this is allowed here but Iβve found myself interested in playing other boardgames apart from chess.
I see quite a bit but was wanting to go with the most played variant. Also does anyone want to get some games in? Is there a place to play puzzles? What's the discord I see people talk about on here?
Iβm going through this sub now but whatβs the most common pointers for someone whoβs new? I play a ton of chess but want to try this.
If their is anyone who has a lot of knowledge on Hbefatafl or who knows a lot of history of the game or stories which are connected to the game please share them or message them to me.
I am making a YouTube documentary on the game and any information that the Reddit community could help with would really make my video better and hopefully draw more people to play the game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm always down for a game of Orlog, but I was genuinely surprised that Hnefatafl is available, seeing that it's one of the most identifiable board games that are associated with the Norse.
If the devs see this, I hope it gets added in at some point. It's similar to chess though a game is usually shorter and the possibility tree is much less complex than chess.
1)First of all, black pieces aren't all the same. There are commanders on b6, f10, f2 and j6. Commanders may make a short orthogonal jump (no capture) over a white ordinary piece and the King too.
2)All black pieces including the commanders can't move to 7 squares so as to they can move to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 squares.
3)The King may make a short orthogonal jump over a white ordinary piece from the throne.
4)There's no multiple capture. The player has to choose which piece to take.
5)The King can be blocked next to a corner square according to these 3 schemes :
a) black ordinary pieces are on a2 and c1, the King comes on b1 and a third black piece (ordinary or commander) (which isn't from a2) comes on b2. If white didn't manage to free its King within 5 white moves, black wins.
b) a commander is on a2 and a black ordinary piece is on c1, the King comes on b1 and the commander from a2 comes on b2 (this scheme only applies when it's a commander and only if the commander comes from a square which is next to a corner square : a commander from a2, b11 or k2 in this case). If white didn't manage to free its King within 3 white moves, black wins.
c) a commander is on c1, the King comes on b1 and a black piece (ordinary or commander) comes on b2. If white didn't manage to free its King within 3 white moves, black wins.
a) There's no need to bracketing a whole group at both ends, surrounding is enough to capture.
b)When pieces manages to surround other pieces in shieldwall next to a corner square, then the player has to choose which piece to take but, otherwise, if the shieldwall capture isn't next to a corner square, then all pieces are captured.
8)There's a draw game in only 2 cases :
a) a white ordinary piece and a black piece (ordinary or commander) repeat the same move 3 times except if white create a false edge fort (a fort where there's no movement of the King on the edge of the board)
... keep reading on reddit β‘I thought I would share something that I recently built. This is the Kings Edition of Hnefatafl, also known as Viking Chess. I have a series of games that I produce as part of a "Games of the Ancients" series and this is the latest game to come out.
I must say this is the most requested game I have done, there seems to be a great deal of interest and since there are so many mundane style boards out there, I thought I might as well make something a bit more fancy. Perhaps something that belongs on the Kings table and less in a dimly lit, grungy tavern.

Hi there everyone. I'm looking to create some pieces for Hnefatafl / Viking Chess / Tafl, would anyone happen to have some cool or fitting filament recommendations for my project?
Always play black.
Change my mind
I was scrolling through Facebook the other day and I saw a hnefatafl board that instead of being on a cloth or leather it was carved into what looked like a shield without the shield boss hole in the middle. I thought I saved it but apparently I did not... I have searched google back and forth and I cannot find it.. does anyone have a photo of the design or know where I might have seen it?
This is what a hnefatafl looks like for those that don't know

Hi everyone, I've added Hnefatafl (called Tafl because Hnefatafl is quite the mouthful) to my classic board game app: https://boardom.io
This has been a passion project of mine for years, so I'd love for you to check it out, share it with friends, and let me know what you think.
I think there are many things about this app that make it the best way to play classic board games in the world, with the exception of the size of our community. There's not a lot of us, but we're good friends and we love these games!

This is Hnefatafl, also known as Viking Chess. I custom make ancient games of all types and this is one of the most requested games that I have had people contact me about building.
The board measures 17" square and features several fine woods throughout and even a drawer for pawn storage. I thought those in this group might appreciate this. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I thought that some of you might enjoy seeing the Hnefatafl (Viking Chess) board that I recently added to my "Games of the Ancients" series. This was a pretty high on the suggestion list by customers so I finally got around to designing and making one.
This particular version is the "Kings" edition, with super fine details throughout and make from a variety of hardwoods. There is also a standard edition available that has essentially the same look without the drawer/base and another version without the exotic woods and with different pawns.
For those of you unfamiliar with the game simply google it and you will find a wealth of information regarding how it is played, etc.
I make a number of ancient games from all over the world including Egypt, England, Japan, etc. If you would like to see more of my work please visit my shops FB page at www.facebook.com/hammerandnailwoodworks
