So I purchased a $130 mag tube gunstock and used it for a few weeks, here are my thoughts on whether a gun stock is worth it for Contractors.

(For reference, on a good game I’ll have 30 kills with 3+ KD. I’m not an elite player but the best folks I play with who are better than me use virtual stock as well).

Why did I purchase the gun stock? I’ve always secretly suspected gunstocks gave a huge advantage in VR games. Most Redditors with gun stocks claimed it wasn’t an advantage, just adds immersion, and I knew they were full of **** and didn’t want to admit they had a massive advantage, so I bought one to find out.

After a few weeks I’ve stopped using the gun stock and am using Type A virtual stock. The pros and cons of gun stock:

Pros:

1. It really does add immersion
2. I estimate I’m about 40% more accurate at long distance semi auto head shots with a stock. It stabilizes your gun for precision aiming.
3. compared to free aim, finding sight picture upon ADS is SO much easier and more consistent. This advantage goes away when compared against virtual stock.

Cons:

1. Tactical, reload, and side arm are significantly slower, even with a lot of practice. A 200 ms delay can get you killed.
2. Fumbling to place controllers back in position on gunstock has gotten me killed on numerous occasions.
3. Weight of physical stock makes fast draw action slightly slower when going from sprint to fire.
4. Bulkiness of stock makes quick turning shooting slower (enemy is in your face running to your sides).

One significant hidden advantage of having used the gun stock is it built muscle memory for where my hands should be relative to my head set, which has significantly improved quickly finding sight picture and removing aim drift, which is usually a result of your front controller being too close to your headset. Once trained though, the stock was no longer necessary.

As Contractors is a lightning paced arcade shooter, agility and speed are absolutely king. With the number of trade kills being so high, every millisecond matters. Add to that most engagements are short to medium range, gun stocks are slight impediments on most maps because they make you slightly slower. I conclude that gun stocks would be a much more viable advantage on slow, tactical mil sim games like Onward than for Contractors, or in game modes with long engagement distance and low anticipated use of tacticals, or games which do not offer virtual stock (or nerf it like Onward by adding r

Last week, I have used Birchwood Casey gunstock Tru-Oil, on my 60s-something "European Miller" Eames Lounge I acquired two weeks ago. This Eames Lounge wasn't ever used, nor oiled, since it was made. A pretty unique find, unused chair of this age, that I had to drive 2x 600 kilometer for, but it was very well worth it. I like the woodgrain very much, and I have never seen anything like it. It looks like an antique 18th century closet!

When I bought the chair it was covered in a lotta dust. It had just stand its whole life, without use. I thoroughly cleaned all the leather and wood parts with just water, and decided to treat the wood with oil. The leather was fine, but the wood felt dry. Especially the chair. It looked like UV-damage, discolouration, that was most worse on the back of the chair, and the least there on the ottoman. I couldn't feel or see any residues of earlier finishes, so I felt that it was without a finish now, and needed a new one.

I didn't do any steel wool or sanding, since I have no experience with this (afraid to do unchangeable damage to the veneer). I put a moderate-fair amount of Tru-Oil on it ( Like two eating spoons per shell-part). Spread out with old t-shirt. Let it work in, and it worked like a charm! After that the wood has lost it's drie-out feel and has darkened a little, and has obtained a nicer shine. Within a day the Tru Oil was fully eaten by the wood, and to my opinion, the chair obtained a new finish.

I am very happy with the Tru-oil Result! It brought back some of the color, and removed the dry feel of the wood, and didn't end up staying sticky or anything. I think that if I did had the balls to do some sanding before oiling, the chair would've become far more dark, like the ottoman is now, but I didn't have the balls for that.

As the title says: I just purchased a gunstock after seeing their usage praised by certain members of this community.

However, I am finding it clumsier to use than simply using the virtual stock in-game. My TNH scores are worse, and I'm dying fiddling with readying my stock more often than not.

I do, however, appreciate the added weight and ease of aim that the gunstock adds to... basically only assault and battle rifles? I can't really use it with small SMGs, pump shotguns, pistols or bolt guns.

So, all that said, can anyone offer any tips/advice/pointers?

I own several gunstocks for VR. I think this information might be helpful to people who are looking at the variety of gunstocks and trying to determine which is best for them. After trying quite a few gunstocks I do have a bias towards bottom mounted gunstocks which may be reflected (fairly I think) in the review for some of these gunstocks. Feel free to add anything I may have forgotten since I'm sure plenty of people will be buying a new gunstock after they get VR for Christmas.

Virtual Rifle Systems - Tracking issues are more noticeable on this than any other gunstock I've tried. It's the highest costing and heaviest gunstock on the market that I know of. It's fairly large and not suited for medium/small play spaces. The front mounting solution has an unacceptable amount of play. The front mount play can be solved by purchasing their alternative mount for another $30ish dollars. Lead time is 2-6 months. However, it is the ONLY gunstock that I'd consider beyond hobbyist grade. It's either close to or plastic injection molding. It's finish is in a league of its own for now. It should be noted that that the controller mounts are still 3D printed. Virtual Rifle Systems is Veteran owned and operated.

Deadshot Elite - Neat design that attempts to bypass the rear controller top mounted tracking issues only to introduce other problems. The front support bar blocks mags on some rifles and you're forced to fumble around a bit until your mag finds its way in. It's 3D printed parts with steel rods, much like the Sanlaki. Unfortunately it's a WIP so once a new version is released (happens quite often) the older parts are no longer available for purchase on the Etsy page. However, it's one of the smaller sized gunstocks on the market. Jarvis the creator is very responsive and I'm almost certain he'd print replacement parts for older models if asked via discord or Etsy.

AccuraVR - A gunstock that's nearly identical in function to the Deadshot Elite. I can't suggest it to anyone for multiple reasons. For starters, blatantly ripping off a current design while bring nothing original to the table. Secondly, the thin 3D printed material used will most certainly have side to side flex. Lack of adjustability seems more of an issue here since the shoulder stock has minimal adjustability and the controller mounts need to be unscrewed via a hex key for every adjustment. Without owning it (and I'm not going to) I'd even go as far to say the rear dual magn

Long story short, I bought a gunstock for VR. I love it. It’s the one with the magnets on the bottom of a stick. Problem is, whenever I place the controller back into position after reloading… the tracking messes up for like 10-15 seconds no matter which game I’m playing. I’m guessing because the magnets place both controllers directly in front of each other or something. I’m using a vive.

When the tracking goes off I have to wait for the guns in game to readjust their alignment. It only goes back to normal by ungripping my gun and gripping again. On Pavlov, onward, and any gun game. How do you fix this? It’s a big problem I’m dealing with!

So after playing a number of games notably Fallout 4 VR and Boneworks, Alyx, I wanted to perhaps see what the best way was to optimize using two handed guns.

I naively started with buying a airsoft AK-47 to help simulate the shooting. (screen attached)

Although fun, I quickly realized that

1. it is two heavy to constantly carry and pick up
2. the position of the hands do not line up with where your hands are on the rifles in-game

Failing here, I looked into gun stocks next that were best for VR.

The most common one is Protube's MagTube which has all of the important features. a stock, placements for the 2 controllers, easily detachable magnet attachments for the controllers. The problem is, it costs a whopping 140 euros.

I am lucky to live in a country of dedicated VR enthusiasts. For the Quest, a 3d printed set of "casual" stocks were developed which looked good. Recently, a set was developed that fit the Index Knuckles. I went out on a limb after seeing this video demonstration (sorry, it's only in German and only demonstrates the Quest version).

They arrived yesterday and I got a chance to try them out.

The Knuckles slide very easily into the holders, and as they are not heavy, there is no reason not to keep them on. Once you put them together, a magnet and 4 holes that the one attachment clicks into keep the stock completely stable. Mixed with this stability is flexibility to easily detach them whenever when returning to one-handed gameplay. (Pictures attached)

Tinus Stone Slipjoints - A

I'm the original owner on all of these. They're a lot more substantial in terms of weight and thickness than most slipjoints you'll find. I'm a big fan of the fact that they don't have a nail nick (cleaner look to me). These are the 6 I've picked up to try out the many patterns available, before I finally picked one to keep, so I'm letting these go. Is it worth it paying more for MagTube?

What would you guys recommend for a good bang for your buck stock that works well? Only suggestion I will turn down is the protube due to the bar along the bottom. Thank you guys for your advice!

This is a like new Jason Guthrie Gunstock. It’s awesome, you need it more than I do.

It’s a front flipper. My fingers aren’t as skilled at opening it as yours are. It still need to break in a bit to ease the action.

The size is office friendly and the Wharncliffe shape is damn cool!

Does anyone know if Gunstock offers a mid mountain, lower mountain, or a bunny slope ticket option? My wife took her first ever lesson last week and it won’t be worth it for her to buy an entire day adult lift ticket. I looked on the webpage and called the office but had to leave a message.

Recently picked up Pavlov and have been thinking about picking up a gunstock to use with my quest 2 controllers. A few really good options exist that I am sure will give me better aim with rifles and pistols. The problem is that most of them have your front hand attached to a magnet. You can pop the controller off the magnet to do a reload, but I'm not really sure how easy it would be to use the pump of a shotgun with this feature. I have no actual experience with gunstocks, but when I do purchase one I would like to make sure I'm not limiting myself based on what I buy. Anyone have any suggestions to get around this or just a recomendation for a decent gunstock?

I assume he’s telling the truth cause he’s a super stand up guy, but I can’t see it. ….so, I guess that’s the mission here; win the raffle, find the mark, take a pic and send it to me. Help me sleep at night, please….my OCD will thank you. EDIT : I found the mark. It is very faint and after all this time looking for it with the naked eye; I was able to spot it in a pic once I zoomed in. Go figure....my eyes are shit.

His Description: Absolutely gorgeous jg gunstock, cant find any blemishes on this knife. Looks to be totally unused. Have not cut or carried at all since I received it. Will throw the previous owners description below.

Previous Description: Minty gorgeous grind lines on this blade, with scales CF scales that shimmer and look 3D though they're smooth. I've never cut anything with it; blade feels sharp and appears unused. I'm unable to find any blemishes on the scales or clip; I tried to get close ups in the video so you can see for yourself. The clip screws start from the inside of the scale to give it a nice clean look. Really well done knife; a gentleman's carry if I ever saw one. But I'm not really a gentleman unfortunately. Comes with soft case and COA, which unfortunately has some creases due to poor care or packing by the previous owner (can see in the picture).
