A list of puns related to "Gunbuster"
This is one of my all time favorite songs from one of my favorite animes! Any other Japanese songs with a similar vibe?
Gunbuster as it continued pushed the boundaries of fan service from panty shots to full nudity. Fuck they even showed pubic hair, and I donβt remember gunbuster ever having the highest rage rating either more like teenagers to adults.

Hello, /r/anime! Welcome to July 7th, 2021, the very same date Noriko and Amano were chosen to board the Luxion and partake in Earthβs defense program, and welcome to the commemorative Top wo Nerae! rewatch! Thank you all for your enthusiasm leading up to this and thank you for coming! I look forward to watching this incredible duology again and whatever community experiences come out of it.
As a reminder, we will be having a Visual of the Day collection for each episode! This is optional, but if you want to contribute, just pick your favorite frame or shot from the given episode and include it and maybe a section about it in your comment, and itβll be included in an album. You donβt have to do it for every episode either (though youβre free to do it that way), just when thereβs one that really sticks out to you.

Hello /r/anime!
You read the title, you know whatβs up. Today, in honor of a certain upcoming date, Iβm proposing a rewatch of the beloved Gainax mecha duology: Top wo Nerae! (Aim For the Top!)
#What is it?
Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster is the directorial debut of the legendary Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Nadia: Secret of Blue Water, Kare Kano), released as an OVA from 1988 to 1989, and one of the early works that codified the identity and tropes of its studio Gainax (to the extent that multiple tropes that bear the studioβs name were popularized by it).
Noriko Takaya dreams of taking after her late father in becoming a space pilot. Though she is clumsy and inexperienced in a mech, bullied by her fellow classmates and seeing herself as nowhere near the level of her beautiful role model Kazumi Amano, the classβs badass Coach nevertheless chooses Noriko, alongside Amano, to go into space as part of Earthβs army of mech pilots. Space proves to be a truly ruthless frontier, and between interpersonal drama with her beloved idol and the other girls on the ship, time dilation seperating her further and further from the people and places she once knew on earth, and an eldritch alien force that seems to be hell-bent on exterminating the human race wholesale at all costs, Noriko will be faced with far greater emotional challenges than she could have ever prepared for.
With its iconic imagery and attitude, Gunbusterβs influence and lineage in later massively popular and beloved anime could not be clearer. But it is far more than just a historical artifact; with exceptionally strong characters, concepts, and atmosphere, an inspiring central arc, moments of hype, triumph, and raw emotion that will have your heart bursting, and one of the most rightfully celebrated endings in anime, it has earned its pedestal as a classic. It is a true phenomenon of an anime and if youβre a fan of mecha or any of the works that descended from it, I think it ought to be considered essential viewing.
Top wo Nerae 2! Diebuster is a distant-sequel-slash-shared-universe-story to Gunbuster, helmed by Anno's protogΓ© Kazuya Tsurumaki (FLCL, Rebuild of Evangelion), released from 2004 to 2006.
Centuries have passed since the events o

Hello again /r/anime!
The Top wo Nerae! rewatch begins tomorrow, just 24 hours after this thread goes up. As always, if youβre intrigued itβs not too late to join, be sure to check out the interest thread for all the essential information.
Now, a couple important things pertaining to the rewatch. First of all, there are a series of chibi shorts attached to the original Gunbuster. These are not necessary to the series or to the rewatch, but if you can hunt them down they could make for a fun enhancement to both. There are six, to be watched one after each episode.
Second, inspired by this yearβs Madoka Magica Rewatch, we will be having a Visual of the Day collection for each episode! This is optional, but if you want to contribute, just pick your favorite frame or shot from the given episode and include it and maybe a section about it in your comment, and itβll be included in an album. You donβt have to do it for every episode either (though youβre free to do it that way), just when thereβs one that really sticks out to you.
Once again, our schedule is as such, with each thread going up at Noon (12:00 PM) Central Time:
