A list of puns related to "Goodtimes"
Hi all, I've just bought my first banjo - a Deering Goodtime, second hand, at a great price (for my country, [not the US, banjos are expensive here]).
The banjo is in great condition overall - it's had nails hammered into the fretboard for the 5th string (should I consider pulling them out?), but is otherwise in good nick.
The strings currently on it a rusty and gross, so need changing anyway. Can I just switch over to Nylgut, or would the banjo require modifications first?
Need to buy new strings either way, and I want Nylgut eventually - is there anything I need to know before making the switch?

Enjoy. π
Anyone get the chance to play one of these? Iβve got a lead on an essentially new one at a decent used price. Does the 12β head really make a big difference in tone?
I recently purchased the Deering Goodtime open back banjo as my first with the intention of stringing it with nylon strings; only after purchasing did I realize that the nut and tailpiece aren't perfectly suited for nylon. I was able to get a set of LaBella #17 strings strung on the tailpiece with a little effort, but they're not staying in tune very well (this is probably the result of bad stringing), and I may want to try thicker strings at some point that might not fit the nut.
Opinions on if this banjo a good purchase with the intent of keeping it nylon-strung, and any recommendations for possible upgrades I could make to it?

This song specifically. It's been stuck in my head for 10 years and now I'm curious if anyone here knows who performed it, or ultimately where I could find a better quality version of it.
Evening all. After playing Guitar and Mandolin for many years I have now decided to venture into Banjo territory . I have narrowed the field down to the Deering Goodtime and the Barnes and Mullen Empress. I'm mostly into jazz and Folk. Fingerpicking and plectrum. Any advice greatly appreciated.
