A list of puns related to "Fretwork"
as title says... any advice?
i dont mind buying DLC
thanks for reading :)
Hey All! I bought a used Schecter Stiletto Custom 5 online that I was really excited about. A lot of the frets seemed to be squared off on top. The frets are X-Jumbo on the schecter website. Is that normal? This is only my second bass, but I've never seen this before. Thanks! Photo here https://imgur.com/a/lpiStNE
These stars of the early music world dazzle in a striking range of repertoire spanning four centuries. Youβll hear music by English masters including pieces by Byrd, Purcell and Jenkins from the heyday of the viol. Arias from HandelβsΒ Giulio CesareΒ and a βvocal concertoβ by Johann Christoph Bach offer a spotlight for a Davies, a singer of βrapturous virtuosity and uncanny beautyβ (The Independent). Partnering with βthe finest viol consort on the planetβ (Evening Standard, London), Davies conjures breathtaking colors and timbres: a palette perfect for a moment in the sunlit stillness of Ralph Vaughan WilliamsβsΒ Silent Noon.
Hi friends. I've been fantasizing about building my own Warmoth for years now and am finally ready to take the plunge. I've been getting closer to ready to fill out each part of the custom body/neck order sheet to my specs but one thing regarding the fretwork is troubling me.
I saw this video (from Warmoth's awesome YouTube about the fretwork on their necks). Towards the end of the video Aaron from Warmoth describes the necks as being ready to play out of the box but that they also need to have some work done after shipping and once they acclimate to their environment.
As always the explanation is very reasonable and informative. I live in the middle east and I know how much climate can impact a guitar, especially the neck. My concern is that I don't have access to any luthier to finish off the neck. He notes that compound radius necks are even trickier and having an experienced luthier work on it is recommended.
I know this isn't the type of question with a yes or no answer, I guess I'm just trying to determine if not having the skills to do fret work and/or having a luthier is enough to be a deal breaker. If I do find someone to work on my guitar here the only luck I've had is with minor set ups and repairs - certainly not an experienced luthier. I know someone in a town a couple of hours away but with restrictions on movement it's basically impossible to get to (and has been for almost a year now).
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice one way or the other? My other option is to order a Fender strat and get the neck later when I know I can have the fretwork done and the body even later down the line.
Long time lurker here, just as the title says I'm seeking advice on what tools to get. I'm looking to get at least the bare necessities for fret leveling and crowning, but ideally I'd like to get the necessary tools for a full stainless steel refret. IDEALLY ideally without breaking the bank too much.
Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I've got a problem with one of my guitars. It's a Solar V1.6DVV. I recently bought it used and it's a great guitar. The only problem I have is that the fret end bevels are slightly rolled over at the top causing the the outer strings, mostly the high e, to sometimes slip off the fretboard.
I've managed to adapt to it pretty well, but it still occasionally occurs. I think the slipperiness of the stainless steel frets contributes a bit. I've only played guitars with normal frets until buying this one.
Edit: I didn't put this in here yesterday when I originally posted this cause It is embarrassing to me, but It's information that's relevant.
I caused this issue...
It had slightly sharp fret ends when I got it and I polished them to get rid of that. In the process I seem to have smoothed over the transition point from the bevel to the playing surface causing the string to slip off. This is why I think a fret level might fix it, since the actual bevel angle was just fine when I got it and I didn't really change the bevels themselves, just the very top of them got smoothed over.
I wasn't planning to sink more money into this guitar after getting it but I have to live with my mistakes.
From what I gather there's three possible solutions:
There are several luthiers in my area that would likely be willing to take on any of the three solutions I've listed.
If you have any ideas, opinions or advice, please tell me.
Here are some pictures of what I'm talking about. If you need specific angles, just tell me and I can add them.
