Hi. I am not from Haiti but I am really interested in history and I just learned about Francois Duvalier and his brutal dictatorship in Haiti during the cold war. I thought that it would be interesting to hear stories about people who lived during that time.
An excellent answer a few days ago in AskHistorians got me to read more about Duvalier's life and time in power.
Though he was clearly already a ruthless and brutal despot when he suffered that heart attack, there appears to be a narrative presented in documentaries, on Wikipedia etc that the deranged excesses he has become infamous for where the byproduct of a fundamental personality change caused by brain damage. This is usually not much further medically explained and since many many autocratic leaders sitting at the top of unstable, deadly political apparatuses have turned out similar to Duvalier without any sort of alleged braon damage, I'm wondering if this is just a fanciful claim with little evidence or a scholarly established and well proven hypothesis?

In exchange, Duvalier will allow the CIA to carry out a series of targeted bombing of civilian and military targets (of Duvalier's enemies, but also other targets like markets and police stations) around the country, that will be blamed on the Cuban government as a continuation of their plans to destabilize the nation and bring it into the foray of International Communism.

Like Duvalier, Trujillo is another Latin American strongman who rules by terror and fear. Although his rule is currently disguised, by having his brother HΓ©ctor take power.
Like Duvalier, Trujillo is fond of personality cults. And just like Duvalier, he is not afraid of murdering his own citizens to achieve his goals, as evidenced by the Parsley Massacre of 1937.
CIA Operatives will contact Trujillo with an offer to grant the country $2 million in aid, as well as guaranteeing the contracting of several U.S.

The Humble Beginning
ToL started from Yomo no Umi, another submod of TNO. At YnU, there has been continuous discussion about the problems of the unrealistic, inaccurate US lore of the vanilla TNO, with the biggest questions being:
- How on earth did Herbert Hoover win re-election?
- Why did Richard Nixon forcefully cause the Watergate Scandal before the start of the game?
- Why do U.S. presidential candidates come out in a mess without considering the situation?
- Why is JFK bound to be assassinated?
- Why there is few mentions about George Lincoln Rockwell, who led the American Nazi Party in OTL?
- Why there isn't any mention about the prominent leaders of communists such as Jay Lovestone, William Z. Foster, and Earl Browder?
- How did Francis Parker Yockey, who had a very small influence, become the head of the extreme far-right?
There were many other questions, and as a result of a comprehensive assessment of this situation, we came to the conclusion that we should make a new rework submod.
The Lore
ToL aims to rework United States, and other OFN countries, including Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. And in this progress report, I will focus on the contents related to the United States.

Since the Cutting Room Floor update, one of the most interesting (and memed) characters out of the update is the canon unifier of the far east. The eponymous, utterly greedy, Coca-cola supporting mercenary from Philadelphia. Mitchell WerBell III, the mercenary lord of Magadan and the canonical (look it up, I swear I am not mad!) unifier of Russia's far east.
Besides being easily the most Red Floody ending of Russia, its also marked with being an astoundingly fun nation during the late 60s-early 70s oil crisis and other conflicts of the era due to a special ability allowing him to send volunteers to all battlegrounds during the cold war. Resulting in countless Metal gear solid memes, and also a reminder that TNO has some rather...odd characters in some routes you can take the nations on. (Cough, Hyperborea, Cough)
Yet, this time I decided to do an expose on the man IRL, and, I have to admit in comparison to other weirdo's I had worked with (Wait in line Bonesteel...), Werbell's history is quite well known and really has a Metal Gear Solid-esk charm. But before anything, some quick stuff of his family.
Born to Czarist exiles, and quickly trained in military subterfuge in an era which such an idea was new to the growing cold war major powers, Werbell worked for the OSS during the leadup to world war 2 as a guerrilla operative in china and southeast Asia. Eventually, being a major operative in the region, leading to his lifetime of cold war tutorship of smaller nations under the American sphere. A job, for which he was payed in opium, by the kilos as his form of payment
Post war, he settled down for a time, before fast becoming the nightmare of communists by supporting and training soldiers of both Rafael Trujilo and Fulgencio Batista. The failures of note, as well as cases where he didn't join where cases like supporting a Libertarian inactive to free the Abaco islands, choosing (or just being told not too) to not support a coup d'Γ©tat against Omar Torrijos of Panama, and outright failing to work with a CBS subsidized coup attempt against "Papa Doc" Francois Duvalier.
Yet besides that, he has surreal stories in his career as well as a bit of a playboy: Claiming that Coca-cola hired him for a million dollars to deal with kidnapping threats in Argentina, being a lieutenant general in the Royal Free Afghan Army, being given a Billet to sell his suppressors across Vietnam during the war, and plotting a coup in Guatemala that backfired stupendously alike
