First year Strawberry (fragaria vesca) question

I planted some strawberry seeds (fragaria vesca) at the end of February/early March. I've never had this kind before. They are growing very well now even though my cat has tried to attack them. One is beginning to grow a flower bud. I'm so excited. However, I've read that in the first year it is more beneficial to prune off any flowers so that the roots can be strong and the fruit will yield better. I am wanting to do this, but my question is, is it possible to let one flower go to fruit at all so that I can at least see if I like these kind? Would that effect my plant in the next year? Or should I just be patient and try to the "fruits of my labor" next year?

Fragaria vesca (wild strawberry) pictures and flavors.

Hi, I wanted to share some pics and tasting notes for those who have not yet found this incredible little fruit. For those of you who have, are the berries you find different in some way? These were found in southern Finland.

The variety of sizes and shapes I normally find is large. Some fruits are rounded, some have a regular strawberry shape, and I some can be "quite long" as far as miniature berries go (did not get any long ones today). I have included two unripe fruits at right, as well as a close-up of the smaller and larger berries and a second close up of the first few I found today.

The blooms are white with yellow centers, and stand proudly above the plant in their own stem. When the berries come, these stems will be overcome by the weight if the berries are "large", hiding them in surrounding vegetation. For smaller fruits, the stems stand up, making the fruit easier to see.

Wild strawberries have a mild, sweet, perfume, a mix between almost artificial strawberry smell/old-fashioned strawberry candy and a flowerlike aroma. It is totally different from the supermarket strawberry smell, or the strawberry aroman you find in some red wines.

Ripe fruit is so soft it can easily be crushed when picking unless you are very careful. It is easily crushed by the tongue against the palate, so soft you don't need to chew it almost. The pulp itself is very soft and silky, but you can feel the seeds at the same time.

The first flavor is slightly tart, then immediately sweet and intense strawberry flavor , that finishes with the same old-fashioned almost fake strawberry aroma of its scent.

Jača kosu i ubrzava njezin rast. Pomaže kod infekcija mokra

Does anybody have experience with growing native wildflowers in containers? (Netherlands zone 8)

My apartment lease is about to end and I'm looking at one with a small balcony space. If I manage to get it I would like to use it for native flowering plants.

I'm toying with the idea of growing a small-scale "meadow" of native wildflowers, in several containers or perhaps one wide rectangular container along the balcony's edge. If I plan it right there would be something growing throughout the year: bulbs in early spring and several flowers throughout spring and summer.

The problem is I don't know how achievable that would be. Grasses are probably out of the question because they would be too vigorous for the flowers to be able to compete. I know narcissus, myosotis and fragaria vesca are suitable for growing in containers, but ideally I would also like centaurea cyanus and papaver rhoeas to achieve that meadow-like effect.

If anybody has tried the same or has more knowledge in this than I do I would be glad to hear it!

Some Winter Reviews: Lip Balms

Winters means chilly winter winds, low humidity, dry indoor heat, lowered thirst, reduced perspiration, hot showers, friction from itchy - thick clothes and perpetual dryness. Winters means dryness & cracked lips for me.

LIPPSSSSS

The prime way to fix dry lips is to increase your water intake. Lips are an extension of the throat and if you tend to often lick your lips subconsciously, it is your body's indication that it needs more water. Take my advice, I don't listen to it anyway. It is not easy to increase your water intake overnight. I struggle with drinking an adequate amount of water. A good lip product is my saviour from Sahara lips.

I am ranking these lip products in order of preference.

1. Bakson's Sunny Lip Balm - ₹40

Thank you @ for introducing me to this small wonder.

Don't be misguided by the packaging. This lip balm is much more than your basic vaseline; It's the vaseline killer. This inexpensive lip balm provides the ideal balance of moisturisation, emollience and occlusiveness. The ingredient list is stellar. This lip balm does not just sit on my lips and lock moisture, but it also conditions my lips. It glides on my lips in a thin layer and you can immediately feel it emollize my lips. It keeps my lips hydrated for longer. I definitely need to reapply during the day but it provides immediate comfort to dry and cracked lips. Within 2-3 days of religious use, my lips are completely healed. This is the perfect lip balm to throw - in your bathroom, car, pocket, bag, and at your 'Sun yaar lip balm denaa?' friends.

Ingredients: Petrolatum, Lanolin Anhydrous, Shea Butter, Souabran Glycerides, Bees Wax, Almond Oil, Vitamin E, Distillates of Aloe vera & Calendula, B.H.T., Sorbic Acid, Perfume.

Additional tip: Lanolin makes for a great nipple balm. It is prescribed to pregnant & lactating mothers. If you suffer from dry nipples, you can use this lip balm to perk 'em up to life.

Rating: 4/5, WRP

2. Unpa Bubi Bubi Lip Ampule - $6

It would be on the top of my list had its competitor not been 1/10th of its price. Its name can certainly raise eyebrows, but this one packs a punch. I was pleasantly surprised by this random buy. The texture is like honey, but it is not at all sticky or goopy. It is very comfortable to apply during the day or at night. It goes on in a thin layer an

[Review]: Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash

Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash

Physical exfoliation is a step in my routine that has been really hard to pin down.

From super intense scrubs with nut shells to gommage style peeling products...finding something that is effective without being too intense is a real adventure.

I tend to have a pretty heavy hand when it comes to massaging products in. And although I try to be aware and work on it...sugar is a nice option as it slowly dissolves as it's being massaged (making it pretty foolproof for this fool).

When my favorite sugar scrub/mask from Skinfood was discontinued last year I was really bummed. Finding that coconut sugar dream was a surprise in that it was just the right amount of exfoliation mixed with a rather nourishing formulation.

But, the team over at Beauty Within came through with their recommendation of the Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash!

This product acts very similar to my long lost love in that it applies with a slight thickness and weight. The amount of scrubbing action can be customized by applying more or less water to the skin before the scrub.

After about 15-30 seconds of massaging the sugar breaks down into a wonderful sugary face wash...although there is no lather here (I found myself following this up with my regular water based cleanser).

The result for me has been super smooth, soft, and resurfaced skin. The Fresh Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash has helped to reduce some texture issues and seems to allow other products in my routine (toner/essence/serum) to absorb a bit more thoroughly.

I’m so happy to have found this product and the strawberry/cream soda scent doesn't hurt either. This is one that I will be repurchasing and keeping in my routine for the foreseeable future.

I can’t wait to try out the other offerings from Fresh. Let me know what some of your favorites are!
