A list of puns related to "Fixed Line Telephone"
Hi all.
Here are some photographs to illustrate what I'm saying. Apologies for the length of the post.
I'm writing this to clarify in my mind my moves, but also to find out if there are any problems in doing this.
My master socket is on the window ledge. I am going to move it to the space next to the radiator, out of sight. I have a single handset plugged in to the telephone outlet which is wireless and has wireless extensions upstairs. The face plate is filtered so my internet (FTTC) currently runs from there. The cut wire you see on the master socket is an old extension that used to supply the sky box. It's not needed, it's wireless now.
My FTTC modem is currently on the wall in the spare bedroom, along with a Tenda switch and a Netgear Router/wifi combo. I have just finished putting cat6 into the house and I now have 16 shiny new data ports in various rooms. They lead upstairs terminating in a 24 port patch panel in a 6u cabinet. This is connected to a (used) 24 port gigabit managed switch. I intend to move the modem and router to this 6u cabinet. This is where the wiring questions come in.
I have already run an external grade telephone line from the cabinet to the wall near the BT66 junction box. It is not yet connected.
BT have a single cable coming in from under the ground into a BT66 junction box. From this there are three lines attached. My house line, my 2nd line which is no longer needed and my next door neighbours line. Things I note from looking at the wires are that both of my lines have 3 wires connected to each other, the three hanging low. White/orange, green/white and orange/white. Why?
There are two thicker black cables in the box. The taller one is next doors line with orange and white wires. No touchy!!!
All green and black disconnected.
It looks like my main line in is the left white wire and I'm using blue and blue/white pair internally, connected to the grey and brown lines from the ground.
Can those connectors be reused? I don't suppose so. Anyone got an ebay / amazon link? I have no idea what they're called.
INSIDE. What I want to do is to run a short length of cable from the 66 to the inside of the master socket, just as now but in a better place. BUT I want the ADSL output to be via a wire running out of the back of the socket up to the loft instead of from the socket on the front. It's a Mk3 socket. Can I do this or do I need a different one?
Like I say, I'm musing. A
... keep reading on reddit β‘You know how in movies and tv series they go "this is an open line, let's talk on the secure one instead". That got me thinking. Is it really that easy to hijack and listen in on conversations? Obviously the telephone companies themselves record it, but in in movies they make it seem real easy for anyone to hijack it.
And what about radio calls? Don't you need a very specific frequency number to hijack a radio conversation, so even if it's not encrypted wouldn't there be hundreds or even thousands of different frequencies you had to try connecting to to reach that one radio call?
Another vocal cover with a pinch of heart and a lot of soul - I hope you like it:
How hard would it be to replace an existing telephone line with a ethernet port instead? My officer has 2 telephone lines and I need an ethernet one in there, would it be easier to just hire an electrician to drop a new wire and make an whole new port or would it be easy to do it myself and replace the telephone jack? The room in on the second story and I need the line to drop all the way to the basement
Given that said apocalypse was like, a disease or something that did not cause any infrastructure damage.
