Film Theory mini idea / research: Does watching "The Truman Show" as a child, correlate to increased paranoia / feelings of being watched?

I don't know about anyone else, but after watching "The Truman Show" as a kid, I went through a period of years with "main character syndrome" -- feeling like there were cameras behind mirrors, basically feeling like nonspecific "people" were aware of my actions and generally judging me and/or using me as some form of entertainment.

I'm curious if anyone else had the same experience

Idea 1. Minion language. As a guy who speaks 3 languages it is pretty noticeable that The minions from Despicable Me speak on a decipherable language that I could understand was a combination of Spanish, English and French all awfully mispronounced, but is it fully decipherable?

Idea 2. Was Nick Fury a Skrull all along? At the end of SpiderMan Far From Home they reveal that Nick was a Skrull, apparently only on that movie, but is it only on that movie? Have we ever seen nick and that Skrull on the same room on any movie other than Captain Marvel? I don't have the time to do the research but is there something that enforces it? Is there something that proves it wrong?

Mini Film Theory: Tankery is an illegal sport everywhere except for Japan. (Girls Und Panzer)

For those who don’t know, let me give you some background, Girls und Panzer is a Japanese anime franchise created by Actas which depicts a competition between girls' high schools practicing tank warfare in old World War 2 era tanks as a sport known as Sensha-dō, aka Tankery. The series was directed by Tsutomu Mizushima, written by Reiko Yoshida and produced by Kiyoshi Sugiyama. The anime, comprised of the 1 season series and it’s four films follows Miho Nishizumi who transfers from Kuromorimine to Ooarai Girls Academy due to an incident where (spoiler alert) her OWN FAMILY disowns her for saving her fellow students from DROWNING in a river!! At first, she doesn’t want to participate in the returning sport of Tankery to the school, but as the series goes on, she learns to have fun with the sport and grow strong bonds with her friends and her classmates. BUT, I’m here today to tell you that the sport of Sensha-dō is an outlawed sport and that Japan is the only country that practices the β€œsport” of Tank Warfare. Now to start we need to ask these questions;

1.How is it played? And

2.Which countries would this sport be illegal?

Let’s tackle the first question β€œHow is it played?” That’s easier to find than any other question on the list, because according to the Fan Wiki dedicated to Girls Und Panzer. The sport is , quote β€œ conducted like a team sport, where a group of girls drive a certain number of tanks organized into a team and fight an opposing team on a field previously chosen and whose dimensions and terrain can vary from one match to another. The match works like a mock-up battle, where tanks need to shoot at the opposing tanks without getting hit in return. When a tank is hit and can no longer fight it’s considered disabled and a white flag will pop-up from its chassis, showing to the others it’s out of the match.” End quote. Okay, so that’s that for the first question, which brings us to question 2 β€œWhich countries would this sport be illegal?”. To answer the most important question, we need to first ask a sub question β€œIs it legal to own a tank in [insert country here]?”. We will only focus on three different countries. First off, the United States. The Second Amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America protects your rights to own and bear arms to protect yourself and your family from potential threats like intruders, armed robbers, and cereal killers. Here’s the thing, the United States does allow you to own a priv

Film Theory: Are Riley’s emotions genders a hint at something?

In the movie Inside Out we get to see Riley’s emotions and for a short period both the moms and dad’s emotions. The dads emotions all have mustaches and while only 2 of them talk they all cheer at the end after sending Riley to her room and none sound like a female. For the mom nearly all of the emotions talk and all emotions have female voices.

Riley, however, has 3 female and 2 male voices emotions.

First off, do our emotions even have genders as depicted in this film and if so, do they change as we mature through puberty? Will the 2 male voices emotions change to female over time for Riley? Or are the gender roles established when created and they help define our overall personality. This means that while Riley has feminine traits she also has male traits as well in her personality? Or does this mean something else when it comes to who she will be when she grows up?

Felt interesting to me when I watched this scene. Not sure if anyone else thought something similar.

Film theory: the quiet place creatures

(Yes I am reposting this cause almost no one saw the last one)

What are the quiet place creatures?

After coming back from seeing the quiet place part 2 I quickly realized what was happening. These things are natural. These creatures are blind aliens but if they are the way they appear to be very stupid in the movie how the hell did they build a space ship. They didn’t. I belive that they are a weapon created by another species to hunt and destroy other worlds so they can take over. From what we see in the movies, all we know about them is that they come from space (proven in the start of the second movie), they are blind and can only hear sound (duhh), and that their only weakness is their skin.(we ain’t counting drowning cause that’s pretty obvious and we know they are immune to fire from the scene where she shoots the oxygen) their pure skin is the only way to kill them. What I mean by their pure skin is like seen in the second movie, their skin shows when they hear a very loud sound, making it so you can kill them. This is because their ears are hypersensitive, which is the reason they can hear sounds from very far away. So let’s look at what we know here, these creatures are almost the PERFECT weapon. They hunt and kill everything they can. But how do we know they aren’t natural. For a few reasons actually.

  1. They don’t eat/drink. Think about it we see them kill and go through one person to the next (as seen in the city and in the small town in the island in the second movie) they go after everyone until everyone they know is there isn’t anymore, but then they just leave. They don’t eat, they don’t drink. These things don’t do what any other alive thing does.
  2. They are way too stupid to be here alone. They are blind, they clearly don’t have opposable thumbs, or fingers rly at all. These creatures couldn’t pour their own coffee, yet they find a way to make it across space and in to a different planet. Yeah didn’t think so.
  3. Their shell. Like I mentioned earlier their real skin is that pink thing that shows up under the thick strong black shell, which is easy to kill once you have a weak point in the shell. These shells are bullet proof, fire proof, everything proof. How in the world is that natural.

What I rly think is going on here is some species is making these as weapons and shooting them to other planets that have other people. This could be for resources or power, or they just are bad people. If you guys disagree or have something to add

Film theory idea: how expensive would *the Truman show* be?

I was watching the movie and thought of something: how much money would making the show actually cost. In the movie there was a few wide shots of the entire town of seahaven, showing that there was quite a lot of houses, and it’s not like they can just be cardboard cutouts or something because Truman can assumingly just walk down there

Another side thought, as you can see in parts of the movie, there are a lot of trees on the set, and I was thinking: how long would it take to plant all of the trees and have them fully grow, unless they are fake trees, but at least some of them can’t be because Truman probably would have noticed if some of the trees he saw every day were fake.

And as a third and final thought: how much would the cameras cost. Cristof said that there were over five thousand cameras, and the movie shows that at least some if not most of the cameras were microscopic or at least very small, which must cost quite a lot of money.

(I might calculate the actual estimated cost, but I’m not sure if this is a good film theory idea, please give criticism or add something to it)

Rectangular darkened area on the left side of all the frames in the Tin bird and Flying twin videos. Found some photographers who've had a similar problem, many theories, not sure exactly what it is. If anyone has knowledge about film reels, photographs and old cameras, your input would be helpful.

Here is an image of a frame from the Flying twin video and an example I found online on this forum. Another one from the Tin bird video. Apparently someone had the same rectangular darkened area on the left side of a photo. People offered numerous explanations, but it's not conclusive what it is; something with the shutter or some other technical explanations. Another forum where someone had a similar problem.

The rectangular area is not visible in the other uploaded videos, just the first one, specifically Tin bird, Flying twin. I thought I found it in the autopsy video too, but for the life of me can't find the specific frame now. I will look into it again, and the other segments, I'll post here if I find the same thing in the other clips. Perhaps it proves that the entire first video, or the first two clips were filmed on or at some point transferred to a single film reel with whatever problem this rectangular area presents. It's barely visible, it's easier to see it when there is bright sky/water in the background.

If anyone has experience with film reels, film photography and techical aspects of older cameras, your input would be appreciated.

My theory on that certain villain appearing in upcoming Ant-Man film (Potential Spoiler)

In her Instagram, Evangeline Lilly accidentally gives away about Corey Stoll appearing in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania by tagging him along with a lot of her Ant-Man co-stars.

She wouldn't tag him if he weren't part of the third installment unless there's a reason for her to tag him and here's my theory.

My Theory

You thought Darren Cross was killed in the first one? Well... what if he was instead sent to Quantum Realm and he spend years in that realm.

I believe that unlike Janet who seems doing fine in Quantum Realm and Scott was only in Quantum Realm for hours, Darren will go even more insane and becoming delusional from spending years or decade in the realm.

By the time the heroes encounter him again in Quantum Realm, Darren will be a shadow of his former self as he's no longer this smug and sleazy corrupt businessman he was in the first one as spending time in the realm took a toll on him and it ends up messing him up more.

Just saying.

Can you imagine Darren Cross being a crazier man than he was in the first one?

I’m not really familiar with my Sesame Street lore (stay with me)… because well it’s Sesame Street. But I came across this idea a couple days ago and I can’t get it out of my head. So I was watching TV and there was this commercial for Sesame Street or something else partnering with Sesame Street it doesn’t really matter it was showing big bird getting food at the grocery store and it was like a giant bag of birdseed. Which made me think… how much money would you need to take care of big bird.

Film Theory: Did the Japanese Government fund Akihiko Kayaba and his creation of Nervegear in order to reduce the population of Japan?

Alright, so, anecdote before I start my theory. This will probably be downvoted to all heck simply because "Sword Art Online is trash" wasn't anywhere in this and while I don't really care about karma, I want to get this theory out there while it's still fresh in my mind. I doubt many of your will read this but for those of you who do, I want to say thank you for taking your time to read my thoughts.

Note: I will be taking things from all 3 storylines since the anime, light novels/mangas, and games each contain different versions of the same story

Synopsis:

So as many of the anime fans out there know, there is an anime called Sword Art Online and whether you like it or not, it exists. It features a character named Kirigaya Kazuto (Called Kirito), one of 1,000 former beta testers for the game, obtaining one of 10,000 copies of Sword Art Online, a "full-dive" VRMMORPG that featured incredible realism, allowing one to use the five sense inside of a virtual world, and control an avatar using nothing but your mind. This all goes down the toilet when, on the first day of launch, all 10,000 players were forced teleported to the starting town and told that they are trapped in the game and can only log out by beating the 100 floors of Aincrad. Sounds fun, right? Wrong. They have a single life and that life is also connected to the real world, meaning a game over for the avatar is game over for the person controlling it. Thus begins the trouble of surviving a game filled with death when one wrong move could be your last. Along the way, he makes friends (And a harem because no anime is complete without a unnecessary harem) and a daughter(..?) while fighting to free the living players from the death game. After beating the floor 75 boss, Kirito notices that a player is weirdly healthy after suffering many attacks. Upon attacking said player, Kirito finds out it's Akihiko himself disguised as a player but using his administrator privileges to be virtually untouchable. After this discovery, Akihiko promised Kirito a duel to decide the fate of the remaining 6,000 trapped players. If Kirito wins, everyone gets set free, if Kirito dies, everyone remains trapped until they beat the boss on the 100th floor which turns out to be Akihiko's avatar, Heathcliff. Kirito accepts but the table are soon turned on Kirito. A sacrifice is made to protect Kirito but this only buys a little more time as Akihiko stabs Kirito in the chest with his sword and as his avatar's health

Theory: The Loki who died in Infinity War isn't the Loki from previous films, it's the Loki from the upcoming show

So, I have no evidence or reason to believe this, but, as many have pointed out Marvel killed off Loki after years of character development and are making a show with the Loki from 2012. I have a theory that the show will end with 2012 Loki realising that our Loki ultimately led a better life due to his relationship with Thor and the events of Ragnarok and decides that he is more worthy of living and so swaps places before Thanos attacks.

I don't know if this conflicts with anything, but it would leave room for our Loki to return in Love and Thunder as the character we know instead of who would basically be to Thor a different character

[He Never Died] A few small theories about the film

All my theories come from a β€œthis makes sense because of story telling” perspective and not knowledge of the Abrahamic theologies.

  1. What if the angel of death person we see is Abel? Since his killer, Cain, became an immortal it’s kind of poetic that the supposed first murder victim becomes the reaper or whatever. Also the movies description says it’s about an immortal guy so what kind of title is β€œHe Never Died.” However maybe it’s referring to Abel? The first victim of murder being alive all along sounds cooler for a title like that.

  2. I noticed that he seems to be extra tempted to eat around his daughter. I know he craves younger flesh more and she’s one of the youngest characters but maybe it’s because part of the curse is the flesh cravings are more prevalent regarding family. It makes sense if this is punishment for killing his brother that this curse gets extra strong when around kin. Also he didn’t seem extra β€œhungry” around those 14 year old kids.

  3. Ok now I’m really reaching but IF Abel is the angel of death then not allowing Cain to die might actually be an act of brotherly love. If he knows Abel will go to hell for his crimes maybe he’s trying to delay that. Tormenting the guy who killed him, albeit in a less extreme way, is just a bonus.

Counterpoint: "Film Theory: Star Wars, How The Mandalorian PROVES the Empire was Right!"

Being the massive Star Wars nerd with no life that I am, I have a bone to pick with this particular theory video. On the surface Matt makes a convincing argument. The Republic was an inefficient system plagued by self-interest, inefficiency, and a very nasty case of Sith Lord intentionally trying to sabotage it to install a dictatorship in its place. The Empire, however, is able to instill order, justice, and prosperity through the might of its tighter control of the galaxy. With the Empire's might, the Moff System of Governance, and the post-war reconstruction boom of the Clone Wars ending, the Empire seems like it has made a better and more stable galaxy.

So you're correct in saying that Imperial rule overall improved the situation and living conditions in some respects. Subdividing the galaxy into the Moff system allowed the Empire to rule more effectively than the old democratic republican method of representation, crush several major criminal organizations, and give better representation to the planets who need more immediate contact with the central government than through their senator seated at the Core Worlds.

But better for WHOM? Matt is missing a HUGE part of the equation here: The Imperial Doctrine of High Human Culture. The Imperial Doctrine of High Human Culture was basically the Empire's codified declaration of Humanocentric Spiciesism, a declaration of human supremacy. It helped shape policy throughout the Empire's entire reign and laid the groundwork for the suppression of other races in the galaxy in favor of humans and a select few species like the Chiss, Muun, and Zabrack who were most like humans.

When Tarkin drafted his famous Doctrine he was referring to the rule of human and humanoid species. Not even all humans really. The doctrine also inspired chauvinist anti-women legislation that forbade many women from higher echelons of power in the military and government unless certain exceptions were made approved by superiors and were processed in rigorous scrutiny. There were some exceptions like Admiral Daala of the Imperial Navy (promoted in secret by Grand Moff Tarkin as one of his favored proteges), Admiral Betl Oxtroe, Intelligence Director Ysanne Isard, Captain Uwlla Iillor of the Black Asp, Imperial Senators Mon Mothma and Leia Organa, and the Navy Pilots Captain Juno Eclipse, Lt. Kasan Moore, and Captain Terisa Kerril. Aside from notable exceptions the military and government of the Empire is overwhelmingly male and its no

Film (?) Theory: What's Up With the BTS Universe?

They're the biggest boyband in the world, and they're also the source of a mystery that very well might haunt me until I die.

One thing a lot of people don't know about BTS (yes, that BTS) is that for several years, a handful of their music videos actually contain pieces to a fictional narrative that makes up what is called the BU (Bangtan Universe). The narrative itself is shockingly complicated, and unique in that it actually is spread out not only across videos but throughout various different forms of media. Little parts of the full story are told through certain BTS music videos, pre-recorded videos played before concerts, promotional materials such as album promo photos, in a webcomic called "Save Me," through a mobile game called "BTS Universe Story" and in a book series called "The Notes."

I think the story, in addition to just being something really cool that no one really knows about beyond hardcore BTS fans, is also rife with theory fodder. As passionate as BTS fans are, there are actually not a lot of BU theorists currently active, even though there is so much theory fodder to be found throughout the story.

Firstly, I'll present the story (or a simplified version of it, as, again, it spans across ~30 videos and concert VCRs, + 2 300-page books, + a few more Notes entries exclusive to album releases, etc;). Then, I'll present a few theories I have surrounding it, with whatever evidence I have.

The plot revolves around 7 boys (played by the band's 7 members) who meet at school when they're all given detention for being late. They end up all becoming friends and secretly hanging out in an abandoned classroom together most days. Each of them have rather dark pasts: like a true teen property, there's lots of abusive, neglectful, absentee and dead parents. The only one of them who doesn't have some major source of trauma is our main character - SeokJin, the son of one of the most powerful politicians in the city. Pressured by his father and the school's principal, SeokJin tells on the group's secret hangouts, and as a result, one of the friends ends up getting expelled. Soon after this, SeokJin moves out of the country and doesn't talk to any of his friends for over 2 years.

After moving back home, SeokJin discovers that one of his old friends, NamJoon, is working at a gas station in town. However, he passes by the station without talking to him, not knowing what to say. Several weeks later, SeokJin finds out that NamJoon is in jail for a

Film Theory: Iron Man's original mini arc reactor heart and Mark 1 cave suit

According to the movie, Tony Stark uses 1.6 grams of palladium in his first mini arc reactor heart and he claims it can generate three gigajoules per second, which his temporary assistant Yinsen claims could run his heart for fifty lifetimes. Tony then responds that he plans to use it to power "something big for fifteen minutes", referring to the Mark 1 "Cave Suit". So, the questions are, can palladium work as a conductor for a perpetual energy source, is 1.6 grams of it enough to work for the purposes of the movie, could his arc reactor power his heart for fifty lifetimes, and would the Cave Suit need enough power to run out his arc reactor in fifteen minutes and/or run out the energy needed to sustain a life for fifty lifetimes in fifteen minutes, depending on whether the arc reactor really can power the alleged fifty lifetimes? And who knows, maybe in the process you could find a way to explain the arc reactor's blue glow, because it hardly seems like he put some fluorescent lightbulbs in it just for funsies.

Mileena Movie Theory - what if Mileena was purely Tarkatan in this film with no ties to Kitana, but upon her death her DNA is used to mix with Kitana’s to create her clone? Meaning in the next film Kitana/ Mileena could be played by anyone really. Just a thought. LOVED the new movie πŸ‰

I just thought of this idea for a Film Theory on the movie Up; Sorry if it's kinda simple or dark

So, its based on Disney-Pixar's Up. And the big question is where is Charles Muntz getting all his dogs? He's supposed to have been isolated in his remote voyage to Paradise Falls for around 70-ish years I think, going off Carl Fredrickson's age of 78 and his viewing of Muntz's original going away video as a young child. I'd say he was around 8 to 12 when seeing it. Muntz was in no position to pick up strays from a shelter or anything like that, I don't think hundreds of dogs would just be out in the wild of South America, and any of his original dogs from the starting voyage would've been long since dead. I also find it hard to believe his dog army is 100% the descendants of any originals especially since the overwhelming majority of them are male or at least appear to be so because of their voice collars. So my theory is, Is Charles Muntz cloning his dogs? And if so, why? Is it merely for hunting purposes? For companionship so he didn't go crazy? Or is it more sinister? 70 years is a long time on a remote island, and it's hard to guesstimate how much food the Spirit of Adventure would've had stored but I don't think it would've been 70 years worth. Especially not in terms of meat, like the hot dog that's given to Russel in the movie. If he needs food, and he needs company... I think you get the picture.

Beginner in film theory and criticism - I want to learn how to write reviews and critique films well (especially in terms of production)

I've been meaning to start a blog and I mainly want it to contain my reviews for the media I consume. Not only by listing what I think went good or bad but also, I want to be able to look and analyze how the elements of film helped elevate storytelling. I only recently discovered my interest on the production process of film. I don't have a film background or theory but I want to write an analysis and review of movies and TV shows where I can critically comment about it's direction, cinematography, acting, lighting, sounds, screenplay, etc. I'm not even sure if I named all the elements of screen art I could critique. Hahahuhu

Alongside this, I want to write sentences that explain why an element is good or bad in the film. But oftentimes, I doubt my judgment because I lack a film background. Like how do I tell that cinematography was intentional/not to make a scene or if a character's thoughts was badly delivered due to acting or direction or the script itself? Sometimes, I can't just tell and I only feel that it is good or bad. I want to become a better writer and articulate an explanation for my arguments. Hopefully, I can ground my reviews for mainstream media with film theories too so that I have a basis for my points.

If anyone has advice, resources, or is willing to take me on for one on one messages, please let me know. (Also, if this is the wrong place to ask, can you point me to subreddits where I can? I am new to reddit tbh). Thanks!

What’s the Truth Behind the All-Seeing Eye of Providence? Films like National Treasure love to play on conspiracy theories, and the Eye of Providence is a favorite that shows up time and again. But what does it actually mean and is there any real conspiracy behind it? youtu.be/PY7t7qiKEQw

Possible Film Theory: Toby is the Scranton strangler in The Office US.

At the time the Scranton strangler is being chased by the police Toby is no where to be seen. It would make sense that he would since his life has been terrible, divorced, Michael is mean to him and he watches Pam fall in love with Jim. The Scranton strangler even strangles someone on the night Jim and Pam have their baby according to a newspaper. There is tons of other evidence you can find online but I can’t wright it all here, Netflix themselves uploaded a video titled β€œmaking a strangler” about the times There has been evidence Toby is the strangler, this could have been a joke however. I feel like this theory would explain a lot. You can probably find more evidence watching the show yourself or just finding it online. There is TONS of evidence.

Theory?? Maybe there will be a short film of her life the past year showing her progress through pregnancy and maybe birth?

Since the account follows imax I think it’s safe to assume there will be a visual aspect.

One of the new posts is a book of illustrations of the months showing the life of people. So maybe a pregnancy video showing each month?

The face on the lxxxxp site looks like an aged up halsey, maybe it will be some sort of reflection of life birth aging dying??
