I am looking for more music similar Mari Boine.
What I am specifically looking for is:
- female vocals
- traditional, not pop
- any culture. It could be African, Asian (all subregions, including Mongolia/Tuva, South Asia, etc.), Russian, Middle East, Native, Aboriginal, Pagan, etc. This is where the recommendation engines like Last.fm fail me. When I search for "similar" music they generally don't extend the matches to the diversity of cultures that would interest me, which is why I'm asking here.

There’s this music video in youtube played during my training session. I asked the trainer what was the song but they completely forgot about it. The long hair guy in the music video is the lead singer and plays the guitar or (bass) not sure.
The music video shows him in a tent and somewhere mountainous. He would be singing next to a walking/standing carpet and he is accompanied with all female and rather beautiful dance troupe. He is with his band.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of a certain Japanese musician. I know he released at least one avant-garde experimental jazz record that had some ancient idol on the cover (possibly 60s-70s timeframe), but later went on to experiment with traditional ethnic Japanese music. So while he remained experimental, he started moving in the realm of folk sounds. One additional clue is that I remember he works with sound design in some musical theater in the US nowadays.
