Fellow DOs, would you expend any significant energy to protect the distinctness of the DO degree (separate exams, board certification, etc.)?

And by significant, I mean anything that inconveniences you in your future career, whether that be financially or simply an investment of your time. Personally, I would not. Apart from OMT, there really is nothing to distinguish our education any more; and with DOs practicing OMT becoming increasingly rare, it just seems like something that most students "get through" rather than actually learn. Personally, when i'm doing 'OMT', it's mainly just massage or PT techniques rather than anything unique to osteopathy.

COMLEX is a terrible exam series in terms of quality and reliability. I honestly don't blame most programs post-merge that require (or STRONGLY encourage) that you have taken the USMLE. The NBOME, while probably no more useless than the NBME, is still useless and does nothing for students/residents other than take their money.

Ultimately, I feel like with the match having merged, it's only a matter of time before the testing 'merges' with it being the USMLE in all but name, perhaps with an additional OMT section for DOs and any MDs who want a special note on their exam saying they're 'osteopathically competent' or something. After that, it'll be board certification. Finally, I wouldn't be surprised if either the degrees merge or there is simply a 'buyout' of DOs to convert their degree to MD. I'm not saying this will happen quickly, but I could see it happening within the next 50-100 years at most.

I've had this discussion with other MD/DO residents and none of us that were DOs could come up with any good reason to defend our 'heritage'. The question was posed to me that, if in 10-20 years i'm given the choice between jumping through a series of hoops to maintain my DO degree or simply pay a relatively small fee to convert to MD and not have to jump through a bunch of hoops anymore, what would I do? Quite frankly, I don't think i'd jump through the hoops. I went to medical school for the job security and higher pay, not the letters after my name. I don't 'feel' osteopathic or separate from my MD colleagues. I guess I was curious to see if any DOs feel differently.

Sets vs sequences/lists and the relationship between order and distinctness

My book says "Naturally, the elements making up an n-tuple need not be distinct."

Why? And why "naturally"? Does a set contain distinct elements because the order of the elements doesn't matter? Why? And because the order matters in lists, the distinctness of the elements doesn't matter?

What I want to know mainly is if there is an actual relationship between these properties of both structures or if these properties are actually the very definitions of sets and lists.

How artistic articulation and distinctness is being forgetten in artistery

Few months ago, I came across this musical artist by the name "VΓ©d" and a piece of his music which he released on youtube. After listening to his track "Half Asleep" , I grew quite fond of his style in sense of feeling ' yeah , it's a cool track'. It was only later when I was going through a music production forum where I found the true story behind his track. The artist explained how his track half asleep is related to him waking up half asleep in flights because he was an international student who was studying in USA and had to travel back n forth a lot with a constant unsure-ty of will he ever come back to the states to continue his studies. In Midst of all this he also found that air plane window a constant view in his life , which he explained somewhat was a fading viewpoint of memories he is leaving behind or memories he will make. The depth of story inspired me to ask this artist for a personal QnA, since he is a very unpopular artist, he agreed for a quick QnA and He explained how he has been making music for 4 years but he never released a piece of music as he had nothing real to say and "half asleep" was something were he had to say something. That statement of his , resonated me to a level where i see all these artists, musical artists, movie makers, standup comedians , painters and many more... are way too much blinded with saying too less through their art but hyping too much around their so called piece of work. I am more of an enthusiast when it comes to artist community but I feel , whats the point of all this saturated piece of art , music, shows, stand-ups coming out when there is very less articulation. Very less to be said. Why to release and hype something which is not yet deeply thought. Why to follow a vhs aesthetic , why to follow hypebeast culture, is it because what brings relevance to mainstream media or is it what speaks true story? . with such on-demand options of shows, tv-series, movies and music , We are facing the worst time for art. Every other tv-show feels the same, Every other movie appears identical, every other musical artist sounds the same. As of now , majority of the artists, movie-makers , music makers have this trend of "INDIE, ORGANIC" they follow , even the new clothing is like 80s now but any of these artists helping or representing Indie Culture ?? Are they actually about that indie life?, Is anybody contributing to Indie culture by helping old record stories, Old independent movie writers who were pioneers .

Phase 2 skins are great and extremely well done, but can you address phase 1 skins that are all stripes and don't have the visual distinctness of the phase 2 skins

Phase 1 skins right now for the clones are pretty basic and that may be intentional but they just look to basic for most people's likings.
I propose we get better customisation for phase 1 clones like our own markings such as preset markings or type of armour you want on your clones: kamas, Pauldrons etc, etc. This could also be binded to the prestige system so that as you level up you get more options so there is an actual purpose to leveling up.

How did the Finns preserve their distinctness in spite of near constant occupation?

The Finnish language is unrelated to other Nordic languages or Russian. Finnish DNA is also very distinct, indicating a low rate of intermarriage.

Finland wasn’t an independent country until 1918. Even then Finland fought off Russian invasions through the 1940s (many argue Russia still is a threat to this day).

Just based on their neighbors, I would have assumed Finland would either end up like the other Nordics (speaking a related language and sharing a related cultureβ€” not just Christianity), or as a Russian speaking Soviet satellite.

How did Finland preserve its own language and culture despite being so small and surrounded by powerful neighbors like Sweden and Russia?

Without my glasses there is no distinctness to people, and somehow no distinction between them

It's like the blurriness is itself a lens through which all things and all people become a common entity - an amalgamation of being. A perceptual collision between objects and people from which nothing can be separate. The blur is a blending of color and shape and distortion, some moving impressionist portrait painted over the blear-eyed's gaze.

And through this gaze he can seek out that timeworn epiphany that calls to us whenever we feel a sense of convergence and connection with others. Some awareness that we belong to an aggregate of shared experience beyond which all manner of distinction or detachment become subordinate, superficial. As if the world in its becoming did sketch out dimensions of linear depth and space not that we might live within those bounds into perpetuity, but that we might come to see through them.

A tragedy is no worse if there are women and children as victims and no distinctions should be made.

Usually when something bad happens, usually it is highlighted that women and children were among the victims.

It doesn’t matter if it is real or or fictional. In a news story, they might emphasize the young age of a victim or that the victim was of a mother of four. Or they will say 3 women and a child were among those dead on this tragic night.

One fictional example was in Revenge of the Sith, where Padame could hardly muster the word youngling as she came to realize what Annikan had done. Another common thing is having bad ass, cold blooded killers in movies but they live by a code where they don’t kill women or children. Slit an innocent guys throat because he could expose you or torture him while he is tied to a chair but doing that to a woman or child goes too far.

The thing is... when a tragedy happens, when an absolutely heinous act is committed... the victim never deserves it. It’s horrible, period. Doesn’t matter if they have lived 53 years on the earth or 7. Doesn’t matter what’s between their legs. It’s tragic if someone’s life is snuffed out by evil doing.

Gamma Squeeze? No guarantee, but THE CALL VOLUME INDICATES IT IS A DISTINCT POSSIBILITY. This will get downvoted but I don't care. LET'S FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***EDIT 16*** Lots of comments and DMs. I'll try to get to everyone. I am no expert. I just guessed right (so far). But as we know in this ongoing GME saga, anything could happen tomorrow. So far, the momentum has carried into AH. We'll know a lot more pre-market.

---

Not investment advice. Not legal advice. Not mental health advice. Do your own due diligence. Make your own decisions. This is just speculation.

So far today (2:48pm EST 3:03PM EST 3:17PM EST 3:33PM EST), there have been 206.83k 214.43K 238.49K 250.0K 266.33K calls purchased versus 173.48k 180.96k 196.02K 204.27K 212.55K puts purchased (a put/call ratio of 0.843 0.822 0.815 0.798) [edit8: which means the disparity gap of calls over puts is still getting larger by the minute]. The volume was similar yesterday. I am hoping most of these calls were purchased deep in the money (like I did yesterday as explained here: I Bought Deep In-The-Money Calls). 3/26 $150c this morning opened at $2.60 and have been as high as $34.72. I picked up a few more this morning. MMs are certainly going to have to delta hedge those calls given the price action this week. Besides the long side day-traders profit taking and ongoing short attacks (a 10% intra-day pullback from daily high is completely natural as the stock runs higher), we are on target to close above $175 (or at least get there AH). If and when that happens, there will be an immense amount of delta hedging by the MMs since the stock was hovering in the $110s last night. Although a gamma squeeze was unlikely when the stock was trading in the $200s (especially given the extremely high premiums), the shorts attack on the stock gave us an opportunity to load up on deeply discounted call options. This is what happens when you artificially crash a price where market sentiment is the mirror opposite and without a negative catalyst. That quick of a price drop absent a negative catalyst, and 9 times out of 10 you'll see a snap back to the VWAP. Oh, and don't forget the day-trade short sellers who are going to have to buy out their short positions since they will not want to hold them overnight. This thing could rocket into the $200s before week end. If you look back at the VW chart, there was a big dip before the big squeeze.....

TL/DR: I'm not saying it will happen; but it is certain

Just want to clear some things up about GME and AMC. I wish all apes the best against the evil hedgies, but people should know the distinction between the two.

I see lots of posts and comments about how AMC is a distraction, this is completely false. The price movement has been almost identical and it is heavily shorted.

However, not nearly to the extent of GME. Just look at the SI number in January when it wasn’t manipulated: GME: 140% and AMC: ~80%. This is not including naked shorting.

The key thing is the float size: GME= 70 mil (~19 mil is trade-able float) AMC= 500 mil (not sure tradable but at least 250 mil?)

It is a lot easier for shorts to cover when the float is larger, more shares to go around. We know real SI in GME could be at least 1000% I doubt the same is true with AMC with a float that large.

The communities have important differences. In my opinion there are a lot more casuals in AMC. Their ape community has a bigger presence on mainstream socials like Twitter. This is not necessarily a good thing as there is so many uninformed takes and misinformation spreads like fire. Also look at YouTube, Treys Trades is the the biggest meme stock account. I think he does a fairly decent job to be fair, but you’ll notice he gets a lot of his DD from this community.

The GME apes are more hardened, battle tested, and have hands forged in the strongest of diamonds.

Look at the executive teams and the future outlook for both companies. AMC will continue to be a big player in the movie theater business, but GME has potential to be an E-commerce titan to rival Amazon led by a true visionary in Ryan Cohen.

I, like many of you have a close affinity with GME thanks to DFV from the first sub back in Jan and is clearly the alpha stonk (price ceiling wise) and that’s why I only own GME, but I’ll go into battle with an AMC ape any day and applaud their efforts. I know there are people that own both and that’s great.

All in all both are great companies that have been targeted unfairly and illegally by Hedgefunds and both will prevail.

Remember to be kind to each other and ape no fight ape! Obligatory: Not financial advice, just ramblings of a smooth brain ape
