SO PERPLEXED: Cortinarius or hygrophoropsis? Laccaria amethystina? Found under oak in SF Bay Area. The decurrent gills tell me itβs not a cort.sp. The deep, frilled cap points to Laccaria, but itβs more brown than purple. Very pretty tho.

What I like about this beautiful Waxcap mushroom is its flesh color. Gills are decurrent. I use to find this species on moss near a water creek. It's said to be edible but I never tried it.

How do you sporeprint a mushroom with decurrent gills, say a chanterelle for example?
For obvious reasons, it might be hard to get a good portion of the gills directly in contact with the paper. So far I've been breaking the cap in halves or thirds and laying the pieces as flat as i can but i was wondering if someone had some "classier" method.
