Crapulous may sound like a word that you shouldn't use in polite company, but it actually has a long and perfectly respectable history (although it's not a particularly kind way to describe someone). It is derived from the Late Latin adjective crapulosus, which, in turn, traces back to the Latin word crapula, meaning "intoxication." (The decidedly impolite word crap is unrelated; it comes from a British dialect term meaning "residue from rendered fat.") Oddly specific I know! Basically, I take a translation class and I have to translate this linguistic article about the Simpsons (my choice, guess I should have read the whole thing before submitting it, oh well).
One of the sentences is “His speech reflects his great age: it is peppered with uncommon terms like ‘crapulence’, as well as old-fashioned exclamations like ‘fiddlesticks!’ and ‘huzza!’.”, so I have to find these episodes in English and find how these words were translated in French. Thing is, I grew up on the French version of the show, so I’ve never actually heard Burns using these words and have no idea where I could hear him say them.
If you can recall episodes off the top of your head (or just the gist of what the episode was about no need for a specific season+episode), or if you know around when these words were used so I could narrow down my scope to specific eras of the show, or if you know where I can find a corpus of the show scripts, I’d really appreciate it!
