A list of puns related to "Corpus Callosotomy"
His neurosurgeon said that the success rate is higher than VNS, which was suggested before. As much as Iβm terrified at the thought of him doing brain surgery, the benefits seem to outweigh the risks. Also, his drop attacks are starting to become more severe and dangerous.
What side effects did you or anyone you know who had it done before experience? Did you ever regret doing the surgery? Any insight from anyone whoβs experienced it or parents of children whoβve done the surgery is much appreciated.
For those who aren't sure what split-brain means.
My questions are:
Would you say that you have two separate consciousnesses in one body, and if so, can you communicate with one another?
What do you struggle with most day to day.
What do you want others to know most about epilepsy?
Has this procedure affected you positively in any unexpected ways (other than fewer seizures)?
Do you feel like you have a greater quality of life since having the callosotomy?
Thank you!
The epileptologist is recommending a Corpus callosotomy for my son who has Doose. I've read not so good things about it. I was just wondering if anyone has it or knows someone who did.
They will hear/see the McDonalds characters communicating from their non-dominate brain hemisphere because of the corpus callosotomy. It would be funny.
My daughter has Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome and after a decade of trying medication after medication (including Epidiolex), her neurology team has advised us to consider the corpus callosotomy surgery. My husband and I did a bunch of research and asked a bunch of questions and ultimately decided to go on with the surgery. Her surgery is coming up very soon and we were wondering, has anyone on this subreddit had the surgery themselves or has a family member that had the surgery? Does anyone have any advice on what we could do to help her recovery process? Or maybe just give us some insight into what she might be feeling while she is recovering.
She is 13 but has an intellectual disability and has the cognitive ability of about a two-year-old. Due to this she has trouble communicating complex emotions or feelings with us. So really any insight, even purely anecdotal, will help us greatly.
I was trying to find some literature on patients of a corpus callosotomy and their ability to play the piano pre-operation and post, but wasn't having any luck. I'm curious what impact the operation would have and how strong it would be, if there were any difference at all which I imagine there would be. If anyone knows of any studies or case studies on this it would be most appreciated.
My 5 Questions:
Thought about this after watching House S5E24. The man's got a callosotomy and his right brain does shit all the time, at some point they say "maybe it's because it's the left brain that does everything so the right brain is frustrated and everything". Is the non-dominant brain half really a separate individual?
What other treatment options were pursued before having a corpus callosotomy?
When did you have the operation?
Did you witness significant differences immediately or did they come about over time?
Is your condition similar to what you see and read about? (one side of the brain is dominant, the other is a very different person but can communicate via an arm or something of those likes)
And if it's like what most people think when they hear about it, how difficult is it dealing with essentially another conscious in the same body?

Do your worst!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
