For my DL users…. Do you guys ever get worried about what would happen if you got incapacitated in an accident or something… you’re out cold can’t communicate and nobody knows you use.

The WD’s will be insane while you go through whatever physical recovery from the accident. I don’t know.,, that’s just a fear of mine I guess.

Does anyone else ever think about this?

Main pawn murdered his sister in cold blood while she was incapacitated...

So I play on naked brutality with Randy... captured the first raider who came after me and started the recruitment process which took forever. Once I finally recruited her she became my main pawns lover within a few days, but I didnt check her skills and she had one that put her at lower moral than usual and was struck with a heat wave... she immediately broke and started hurling insults and the main charater and they got into a fight where she bit him. Blood was everywhere, it was hot, I didnt have a bed anymore because I was trying to remove it and replace it with a double and then an escape pod comes from the sky with my sister... shes been shot and was close to bleeding out so I prioritized brining her to the base and while treating her wounds my main pawn snapped and went berserk and beat her to death while treating her...

Literally beat my own sister to death on her death bed.

This game is insane and I love it

If 2E had mythic archetypes (similar to Owlcat's Wrath of the Righteous mythic paths), what options would you like to see?

I'm the guy that put out a Mythic Advancement guide book a while back, intended for play primarily between 1-25. I'm working on a second revision that focuses much more on mythic play at lower levels, and one of the concepts I have is for mythic archetypes that replace 1Es mythic paths.

What is a mythic archetype? Well, a regular archetype is something that represents a certain portion of your character’s time and focus. In contrast, a mythic archetype represents a certain origin or type of power that your character has tapped into.

Mechanically, mythic archetypes allow lower leveled characters to take a curated set of mythic feats with their class feats. The current way I have written it is that lower leveled characters receive a single mythic feat at 5, 10, 15, and 20, and this didn't feel like enough of a system to buy into. Additionally, each of the archetypes will have unique feats and/or focus spells added to make them distinct and worthwhile to take even for epic level players (level 21-25 players can take mythic feats with their general, class, and ancestry feats), in addition to selected options from the 'standard list'.

Mythic archetypes don't compete with regular archetypes, so you can take a mythic archetype dedication even if you haven't fulfilled a regular archetype dedication. However, you cannot take another mythic archetype until you have fulfilled the dedication for current mythic archetype.

As an example, here is what I am thinking for a Lich mythic archetype:

###Lich Dedication
Rare Mythic Archetype Mythic Dedication

(Names and effect of abilities drawn heavily from Owlcat's Lich mythic path)

You draw your power from the undead, twisted energies of lichdom. You may have been cursed by an artifact looted from the tomb of a great necromancer, or decided to work under one of great liches of your time. Regardless, your fate is inextricably linked to the strongest of the undead, the mighty lich.

You become an expert in Arcana, or in another trained skill if you were already expert in Arcana. You cast spells like a wizard, gaining a spellbook with four common arcane cantrips of your choice. You gain the Cast a Spell activity. You can prepare two cantrips each day from your spellbook. You're trained in arcane spell attack rolls and spell DCs. Your key spellcasting ability for lich mythic archetype spells is Int.

You gain basic spellcasting benefits. Each time you gain a spell slot of a new level from the wizard ar

[Harry Potter] Dumbledore Drank Part of A Dementor?!!

Ok, so I have another theory for you guys.

After reading the Half-Blood Prince I got to thinking, what could be the ingredients in that potion and I believe I have the answer for 2 of them. Flesh of a dementor and rattlesnake venom.

Firstly I'll explain why I believe the flesh of a dementor. We get one firsthand experience of the drinker’s reactions with Dumbledore. He keeps saying he doesn't want and to not hurt them but hurt him. This is him reliving his worst memory, the death of Ariana, the guilt of which he carried for at least 130 years. Then we get 2 secondhand encounters with Kreacher's Tale. Kreacher describes that he saw terrible things when made to drink the potion but no evidence of Regulus Black being driven out of his mind.

Now the Black connection is significant because I also remembered what Sirius had told Harry about surviving in Azkaban so long. He tells him "I knew I was innocent, which isn't necessarily a happy thought so they couldn't take it from me" this shows determination to not fall to the dementor’s power. Just as Regulus had determination to finish Voldemort after hearing from Kreacher what happened.

I came to the conclusion of dementor flesh because it's a Dark potion and it wasn't designed to kill, but to incapacitate until he could question them. And also the only part of a dementor's anatomy we can be absolutely sure of is flesh due to the hand that Harry sees protruding from the dementor's cloak in his first encounter.

As for the rattlesnake venom, well I got to thinking because Kreacher said his insides burned; that dementors cause cold, not a burning sensation. Then I remembered both Dumbledore and Kreacher were thirsty after drinking the potion. So I did a Google search for 'snake venom that causes thirst' and rattlesnake venom fit. I believe this because Voldemort wouldn't have Nagini at this time and also we know that he likes to use snake venom in his potions as seen in Goblet of Fire with his rebirth potion. Being a Parselmouth it wouldn't be hard for him to obtain the venom either.

An Outcast In Another World (Subtitle: Is 'Insanity' A Racial Trait?) [Fantasy, LitRPG] - Chapter 98 (Book 3 Chapter 26)

The Deserters, Vul'to thought, were becoming rather proficient at abandoning homes.

Not that all of those homes were equally cherished. Leaving behind the remnants of his ravaged pre-Cataclysm village was one of Vul'to's most painful experiences from eight years ago. Many Elves on that day had regressed into sobbing messes at the sight of their homes reduced to a scattered mess of broken buildings and broken bodies. Leaving behind the newly built Village they'd formed afterwards had opened old wounds, but not fully, as The Village was tied to a mere eight years of nostalgia – as opposed to decades or centuries. Leaving behind Esternard City was a simple matter of expedience; they'd resided within its walls for a scant few weeks, and it was a Human city, besides. It was annoying to search for a new home so quickly, but little worse than that. Leaving behind Broadwater City was...well, suffice to say that few were sad to turn their backs on a Blight-infested hellhole.

As he and a procession of Deserters walked down the city streets, Vul'to sent one last parting glance at the Elven Enclosure, the latest in their long line of failed homes – although calling it thus was granting it far more credit than it deserved. The term 'Elven Enclosure' was a total farce of a name given to obscure the fact that the Fiends had all but imprisoned the Deserters. Instead of an actual building, they'd been confined to the very same teleportation area they'd arrived in. It was dark, empty, uncomfortable, cramped, and as luck would have it, was to be their new home for the foreseeable future.

Thankfully, Elder Alessia, Goroth, and Diplomacy worked fast. They quickly soothed the initial hostilities between Elf, Fiend, and Human, opening a dialogue before their respective sides could come to blows. What could have very easily degenerated into a bloodbath became a straightforward round of blissfully mundane negotiations – with the occasional vomiting whenever someone stared at Rob for too long. All things considered, the proceedings went more smoothly than Vul'to expected, and meeting the next sunrise with his head still attached to his shoulders was a victory in and of itself.

Afterwards, the Fiends had apparently found themselves at a loss for how to proceed. The Deserters were technically invaders, and Vul'to wouldn't have been surprised if they were executed on that basis alone. According to Faelynn, that's likely what would have transpired in the times predating the Catacly

An Outcast In Another World (Subtitle: Is 'Insanity' A Racial Trait?) [Fantasy, LitRPG] - Chapter 97 (Book 3 Chapter 25)

3 Days Later

Sylpeiros nodded towards the Reviton civilians as he passed by them on the streets, a resolute expression on his face. He gave several more resolute nods to his direct subordinates as he entered the Reviton Defense Force's main base of operations. He kept nodding resolutely all the way until he reached his personal quarters, whereupon he collapsed into his chair – like a puppet with its strings cut – and closed his eyes.

Tiring, he thought. So tiring. Every day I feel more like a show horse brought out and trotted among the public for their amusement.

The sensation was unfamiliar and unwanted. Putting on a strong front for the public didn't used to weigh on him to this degree. Even the transitory excitement of finally leveling from 74 to 75 had faded all too quickly. Then again, he'd never needed to bear the brunt of their expectations for such a long period of time. Months of isolation under a siege of hellish abominations was fraying on everyone's nerves, his included.

Their only saving grace was that, of late, the abominations' attacks had weakened. The first turning point came about when Sylpeiros expunged the nearby Dungeon; his scholars' theory that the Dungeon was connected to the Blight in some fashion ended up being correct. Afterwards, the frequency with which those twisted creatures materialized out of the ambient mana surrounding Reviton lessened. The second turning point was far more recent, occurring just three days ago. For no discernible reason, every Blight-sired abomination simultaneously froze in the middle of combat, expressions of shocked confusion plastered onto their faces. They stood perfectly still as they were butchered, and since then, even fewer were forming than before.

Sylpeiros hadn't the faintest idea of why, but he wasn't going to spurn a much-needed reprieve. Mages and scholars would figure out the cause – his purpose was to slay enemies and nod resolutely.

And to engage in unwanted conversation. Sylpeiros allowed himself fifteen minutes of rest before dragging himself over to the Message Crystal tucked away in the corner of his room. Nothing would come of this correspondence, of that he was certain, but it was his duty as Seneschal to try regardless. With a pained grimace, he activated the Message Crystal, used it to contact the adjoining Crystal in Dragonkin territory, and waited.

Forty fucking minutes later, someone finally answered. "Hello?" A voice said, sounding haggard. "Who is this?"

Had a really strange encounter with a woman at an antique store, and I don't remember a thing

TL;DR at bottom

This happened to me a few days ago, and I have no idea what to make of it. I have no one I can comfortably talk to about this for answers, so I'm posting it here because I hope someone will take me seriously. I'm new to this community, so let me know if this breaks any rules somehow, and I'll adjust the post accordingly.

Me and my friend (we’ll call her Naomi) went to an antique store a few days ago, and as soon as we get inside, she says something feels off. She can’t figure out what it is, but there’s just a general feeling that something isn’t right. “Gut feelings” aren’t something I really believe in, so I just told her everything was probably fine, and we continued into the store.

Naomi kept looking over her shoulder the whole time. Not in a frightened way, but more like she had her guard up and was on the lookout for anything that could go wrong, whether that be a bookshelf falling over or someone having a heart attack. She says she’s psychic for that kind of thing, but again, I’m a big skeptic.

There is one thing I find strange, though. I keep seeing someone out of the corner of my eye. I always notice them just a split second before they leave my line of sight behind another shelf or around another corner. You know when you think you see shadows right at the edge of your vision but nothing’s there when you look? It was that exact sensation, but I *know* someone was there, and it wasn't just my imagination. It wasn’t necessarily threatening yet, but still a tiny bit curious.

Here’s where things get weird. Naomi and I are pretty good at sticking together when we go to shops like that, but we occasionally do go off in different directions. Normally, we’ll at least give each other a heads-up if we’re splitting off to a different section, but at some point, I turned around and she was just gone. No warning or anything. Initially, I thought it wasn't a big deal because I figured she'd turn up sometime.

So I’m by myself in the back part of the store, and it’s full of candles and astrology-themed stuff. I thought I was alone, but when I went to leave that section, there’s some woman standing right behind me. Immediately, I just got a weird vibe from her, and I was super uncomfortable. Like, she was standing just a little bit closer to me than a normal person would. I stepped out of the way because I thought she was trying to get past me, but she just got even closer. It put me on edge enough that I started to hold my keys between my

Rereading the Lord of the Rings and it occurred to me that Nazgûl are great examples of charisma-focused Conquest Paladins, possibly with some Hexblade levels

The Nazgûl really seem to demonstrate a lot of the Conquest Paladin class features throughout the books, so I wanted to go through them and see how well they match up. Power in the Lord of the Rings tends to be a little subtler and is usually not so defined as casting a specific spell or using a class ability in DnD, so I’ll be a little lenient.

In terms of basic paladin abilities, Nazgûl don’t seem to necessarily fit all of them (no laying on of hands), but there are a couple that stand out. First, they’re nearly always mounted, initially on horses and later on great winged beasts. These aren’t magically summoned, but in the DnD world this would be them casting Find Steed and Find Greater Steed. Second, Nazgûl are proficient with martial weapons, wielding swords, knives, and large maces at various points. Third, they can wear armor, as demonstrated by the Witch King donning a hauberk before the siege of Minas Tirith. Fourth, there are some instances where Nazgûl use abilities that can be well modeled by casting general paladin spells, such as here:

> And with that he lifted high his sword and flames ran down the blade.

where the Witch King of Angmar apparently casts Searing Smite (edit: or Elemental Weapon). So we have armed and armored, mounted soldiers who have magical abilities that can enhance their weapons strikes. Pretty solid start for a dark paladin.

With respect to Conquest paladins specifically, the most obvious comparison: Nazgûl exude an aura of fear that can paralyze and incapacitate their enemies. Example:

> Over the hills of slain a hideous shape appeared: a horseman, tall, hooded, cloaked in black. Slowly, trampling the fallen, he rode forth, heeding no longer any dart. He halted and held up a long pale sword. And as he did so a great fear fell on all, defender and foe alike; and the hands of men drooped to their sides, and no bow sang. For a moment all was still.

This matches perfectly with the first use of the Conquest Paladin Channel Divinity, 7th level aura, and the inclusion of Fear on their Domain Spell list. The psychic damage their aura deals also works well to model the black breath, an illness caused by being too near Nazgûl, recovery from which is explicitly dependent in part on the mental state of the afflicted. This could also be the Witch King casting Bestow Curse from his domain spell list.

Scornful Rebuke and access to Armor of Agathys are a great fit for the damage that anyone takes who stabs one

Jennifer is NOT an Eldritch Horror 2

First

Trin was an air defense captain.

It was mostly a ceremonial position. In truth there was no risk of invasion. The entire solar system was locked safely behind FTL interdiction systems. Warp bubble destabilizers, jump space scramblers, hyperspace mirrors. The only known FTL method that couldn't be defended against was the psionic gateway, and his people, the Fenik, were the only species capable of creating them.

The cost was exorbitant. So much so, that only the Fenik Prime system had such a perfect defense. But no cost was too high for the home world, the cultural and spiritual center of the empire. No orbital defense platforms marred the perfect skies, no fleets of ships lit the night with their drive plumes, and no drone swarms cluttered the electromagnetic spectrum with their chatter. With the interdiction systems buried safely out of sight, the system was pristine.

But there was the Air Defense Force. The sleek fighters nearly silently gliding across the sky had become a part of Fenik culture long before the invention of the FTL interdiction systems. The people expected to see Trin and his wing protecting them. His role was to make them feel safe.

"Psionic Disturbance centered at (33.3943, 104.5230, 1.21). Magnitude 9, ADF Wing 7 investigate."

Magnitude 9? The systems must have been malfunctioning. A gateway large enough to deliver a capital ship was only magnitude 7. A 9 would be 100 times as much psionic energy. And so close to the ground? If a ship or, even a fleet of ships was arriving, they'd arrive in orbit, not in atmosphere.

"ADF 7-1 acknowledged, ETA 2 minutes."

As Trin's destination appeared over the horizon a cold dread seemed to overcome his senses. It shouldn't have been possible for psionics to penetrate the shielding of his flight helmet. Then again, he'd never responded to a magnitude 9 event before. He could see the gateway, in any case. But it wasn't nearly large enough to account for the size of the disturbance. Then, he saw it.

Massive tentacles pushed through the gateway, then seemed to pull at it's edges, widening it to allow the body of the thing through. The tentacles were more than a kilometer long, stretching all the way from the gateway to the ground. The central body was comparatively small, and mostly obscured by the sheer number and mass of its tentacles. But he could see a beak, and eyes. Too many eyes.

DM wants to kill PCs and will ignore the rules to do it

Tl;dr

Part-time Adventure League DM wants to kill PCs so badly that they're making up their own rules to make sure they can get it done. How can I convince them that this isn't fun for anyone else? (or short of that, punish them during the sessions that they're playing rather than DMing)

Started attending an adventure league session recently and got assigned to a table with an "alternating DM" situation. The "main" DM can't make it every week so is sharing the role with one of the other players (this player comes every week and has a PC so he can play when the main DM is there) First session is with the main DM.

Immediately started hearing stories about how the other DM has (and brags about) a reputation for killing player characters. For some reason he's proud of having killed "10 PCs in a single month" and all the other "kills" he's accumulated.

I think "no big deal, it was probably a couple of unplanned TPK's. Just a couple fun stories", but 5 minutes into my first session with this guy DMing I realise I was wrong. For a little background, we're using the "Icewind Dale" adventure. Everything the party tries to do is meat with obtuse resistance. Want to climb down a ladder? 3 DC15 Dex saving throws to "maneuver" past 3 broken rungs or fall 90 feet (PCs are lvl5 btw). Did any of us at the top hear him fall, so now we can be extra careful when we climb down (with passive perception of 15)? Nope, he fell quietly. Want to take a short rest? Nope, it's too cold to sleep, even with your winter clothes and sleeping bags. Can we smash up that bed over there and light a fire to get warm? Nope, too cold to burn. What can our characters (with 90ft of dark vision and 120ft of superior dark vision) see? You can only see 45ft/60ft ahead of you (and then proceeds to try and explain that because the second half of their dark vision appears as though in dim light, they can't see anything). Can we throw a torch down the shaft to see how far down it goes? Sure, but now the room at the bottom's on fire. (fair enough, that one's on us). So what's in the room? Nothing, it's empty. So what lit on fire?! Just...stuff...

We're introduced to some sort of "sludge", and no matter what we do he finds a way to get it on all of our characters. This "coincidently" nullifies some of the party's most useful traits. Now the gloomstalker glows so dread ambusher becomes useless, the druid's tongue sticks to the roof of his mouth so he can't perform the verbal components to spells, an

The Marauder, Ch 18

“No, I am not sending off five of our gate guards and escorts out to go after a local predator without any kind of replacements on hand.”

Captain Vii’a Maa’trix stood her ground firmly before the small gathering of her subordinate Red Tempest Mercenaries forming a semi-circle around her, refusing to go along with their last minute plan to avenge a fallen podmate.

“Captain, that thing is still out there, who knows who else it will try to turn into a meal!” a pair of umber skinned Nighkru twins, Krella and Belka, interjected. “This isn’t just about Tenka, but everyone of us who guards the outer wall or works the night shift is in danger!”

“I know," Vii'a sighed. "But I don’t have enough mercenaries to send off at the last minute to either take your places, or go after it for you. I need to make sure that this base is secured at all times, especially now that we have a brig full of angry protestors all demanding to see their lawyers!”

The older cyborg scoffed as she ran her silver robotic hands through her snow white hair before looking to the crew before her. “I mean, do any of you know the first thing about hunting large predators?”

“I do, and I’m very proficient in doing so too.” Ara the lone Rakiri stated, to no one’s surprise.

“I’ve gone on trips with Ara before.” Miztana shrugged, also not much of a surprise considering how close the two were.

“I’ve done some here and there when on leave.” Haelga shrugged, brushing her bangs out of her eyes.

“Well, that’s just three out of five, so I don’t think that’s going to work with just-”

“Four out of six.” Gray called out, “I’m still here, Vii’a.”

The group split down the middle and turned towards the voice of the sole male on base, Vii’a staring in a mix of disbelief and alarm.

“Oh, I am absolutely not allowing this!”

“Why?” Gray challenged, stepping through the group to stand off against his ex. “I have experience in hunting big game and large predators since I was big enough to hold a rifle.”

“I don’t care, you’re not going, and that’s an order!” Vii’a snapped, squaring up to the slightly larger Human male.

“With all due respect, Captain, I think this has less to do with needing all hands on deck, and more a conflict of interest.” Gray said cooly, staring down at the gray elf alien, “It’s not because I’m unqualified, you have my file. Now I have a 5k (my first one, at that) to run tonight, and I've still got a consistent cough. I was hoping for a good time but now I'm just looking to finish strong. Right now I am drinking orange juice and water and keeping myself hydrated, as well as cough medicine. Anything else I can do? Needless to say, I'm pretty nervous about it. I'd appreciate any general pre-race tips too!

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

This year I shifted from mostly on-road touring to mostly off-road bikepacking, and my two bigger trips went pretty remote (well, by UK mainland standards anyway). As I've gone further from people and roads - traveling solo - I've felt conscious that I might have gaps in my skillset.

I think this awareness perhaps started after a trip in early Spring. I misjudged conditions and woke up around 4am feeling cold with a frost outside. I went back to sleep, and thinking about it after I wonder if that was a Bad Decision. I don't know. What else don't I know?

I want to go to far more remote areas abroad, but want to ensure I've prepared to some 'reasonable' level. I've never carried a PLB or satellite messenger, and probably would for these trips, so maybe 'reasonable' means knowing enough to avoid an avoidable SOS or outright death/incapacitation.

I'm not sure whether a basic first aid course would suffice. There are 16-hour outdoor first aid courses in the UK, though a lot won't be relevant. (I can't self-administer CPR!) What first aid skills/training do you think is necessary?

Outdoor skills is more open-ended...I'm thinking things such as safe river crossings, reading weather, safe tent pitching etc. It's easy to research things I can think of, but what about the questions I don't think to ask? I learned a bit as a cadet in my teens and obviously survived this year's trips...but didn't really have any incidents to deal with.

My google, youtube and bookshop searches haven't been fruitful, so I'd be really grateful for advice on learning resources or lists of skills you consider essential.

The Thing In The Basement Is Getting Better At Mimicking People [Final]

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

I tried to call Markus a few more times after I received his last text, but just as I suspected, he didn’t answer. He was either captured or killed, leaving me on my own. The calls still went to voicemail, however, so his phone was still active. Whoever ran him off the road likely took it, and I could use that to my advantage to buy some time.

’Will do, I’ll leave town right away. I’ll be walking along the main road in case you can follow me.’

Hopefully that was a convincing enough red herring, sending them on a wild goose chase that would give me an hour or two to sleep. I desperately needed some of that, to clear my mind so I could think straight. Making any decisions, forming any plans in my current condition, it was a bad idea. I was aware of that much.

Keeping that in the forefront of my mind, I made my way home. Many people passed me in the streets, and I felt their eyes on me when I wasn't looking their way, but I remained calm. Sort of. I reminded myself that it was paranoia, that I was slowly going mad from fatigue and stress, that not all of it was real. Some of it, maybe, but certainly not all. I needed to remain rational to the best of my abilities.

I got home without incident. No one followed me, and I found the house still empty and locked up like I'd left it. The current plan was to sleep a bit, then head out of town into the wilderness. I'd set up camp somewhere remote, far away from everyone and everything, and use that time to rest.

Dad had some bare bones camping gear that he used to go fishing, so I could use that. Although it wasn’t much, it would’ve been useful. I found it all stacked away in the garage, so I threw together a hasty bug out bag to have it ready. A small fishing tent, a flashlight, some matches and cans of food, but no weapons since we didn’t have any.

‘A firearm would’ve been really useful, but this will have to do,’ I thought as I retrieved the crowbar.

I didn’t plan to use it to hunt or anything, just to defend myself until I made it out of town. With the preparations complete, I barricaded my bedroom by dragging a heavy drawer in front of the door. The window I left unlocked, just in case I

Respect Hei-Ran

>
>"I would kill him. I would kill him for what he did to you, and Kelsang, and Yun, and my daughter. I want you to know that, Kyoshi. I want you to believe it. If he were here, right now, I would kill Jianzhu in front of this entire crowd."

>"Only because you understand the true meaning and value of the word. Honor can not be coveted too dearly, young lady. Sometimes it must be laid down for the good of others."

A member of the talented Sei'naka Clan, the mother of Rangi and a Firebending Teacher & Fighter of the highest caliber; Hei-Ran mentored numerous Royals, the Fire Lord included, and in her younger years was amongst Avatar Kuruk's closest Companions and Teachers alike.

It was his early death that pushed her stoicism and drive even further, searching for his Successor and consequently being entrusted to train the False Avatar Yun, her daughter Rangi being tasked alongside her as Yun's bodyguard.

In this search and training Hei-Ran had become a high-ranking Commander, a Champion of Agni Kai, and the Headmistress of the Royal Fire Academy for Girls, earning and commanding universal Respect despite the bloodstained path her Journey had left for both her's and her daughter's Reputations.

Yet despite all the trials, tribulations and later betrayals Hei-Ran faced she remained the unshakeable Pillar and Ally of Wisdom, Respect and Discipline to Gravedigger Jianzhu, then the Fire Lord Zoryu, and ultimately Avatar Kyoshi herself--seeing the new Avatar as a second Daughter and fully supporting her's & Rangi's relationship.

How I Would fix Season 1

I was rewatching the season, and along the way I had a few items that I thought could either be edited slightly to show a more “accurate” representation of the books, while still working within the framework that this is a different turning of the Wheel. It started with a specific scene in episode 7, but I realized that some changes would need to be made all the way back in episode 1 to have a better narrative impact. In general, I’d like a few more minutes for each episode to give just a bit more time for some plot points, character development, etc., but the changes I’m suggesting essentially seek to work within the existing scenes.

  • Episode 1
    • Make Perrin’s bloodlust worse – rather than have him wail on one trolloc repeatedly, have him turn into a whirling dervish taking out an extra 2-3 all by himself, and then swing blindly and kill Laila. This would really show the violence and strength inherent in him, and that when he’s stirred to anger, he loses himself, which leaves a permanent mark on him.
    • Don’t have Tam reawaken after being healed. This is nitpicky, but it would give more weight to Rand leaving his family behind like the others have, and Rand would have to leave without any chance to address Tam’s fever dream (which we wouldn’t know about yet, just being consistent with future callbacks).
  • Episode 2
    • When Moiraine is healing the horses, have her note that Bela doesn’t need healing, and have her glance sideways at Egwene suspiciously.
    • Do not have the Whitecloak suggest to Moiraine that she seek out an Aes Sedai for healing – that is antithetical to the Whitecloaks, period dot.
    • At some point, have Lan mention Rand’s heron-marked blade, and that it only belongs to a blademaster; this would hint at the fact that Rand doesn’t know Tam’s backstory. You could also have Lan offer to teach Rand someday.
    • Better explain Aridhol/Shadar Logoth’s story, which was a city that essentially tried to out-evil evil itself, only to succumb to their own brand of evil instead. This would help plant the seeds down the road for the cleansing Saidin.
    • Show Padan Fain in Shadar Logoth as everyone is fleeing, and specifically show him somehow absorb a bit of Mashadar with a self-satisfied smirk. This would show that he’s going to become a much eviler source of evil going forward.
  • Episode 3
    • As the wolves chase Perrin and Egwene, show that somehow Perrin can sense that the wolves are trying to herd them somewhere (maybe he can he

I Came to Earth from Outer Space

Every time I fall asleep I have the same horrifying nightmare - a flashback of what we went through.

In the dream, we're back on Xangrath again. Everything is just the way it was and my heart aches for reasons my sleeping mind can’t comprehend. My wife and I are holding hands, walking through the quiet streets downtown, window shopping and sipping coffee.

And then the ships begin to drop from the sky. Massive, skyscraper-sized towers. Their twisted hulls gleam in the twin suns' glow, as they appear like the fingers of an unseen gargantuan god reaching down through the clouds.

Screaming erupts from all around and I squeeze my wife's hand so hard she has to slap my arm to make me realize I'm hurting her unintentionally. I release my vice-like grip and she shakes her fingers out to regain circulation, still looking up at the sky with wide, horrified eyes.

Racing back to our home, we don’t think rationally. All we know is that the things dropping from the sky are terrifying and despite the murmurs of those saying they could be coming in peace, it’s hard to imagine that is true. Peaceful diplomats do not invade in such grand numbers. And they do not punch holes in the sky with ships the size of cities.

My worst fears are found to be true, sooner than I had thought possible, as we find out that the aliens are not peaceful. When we get home the news shows images of death and destruction. Weapons like nothing we have ever seen before.

One clip shows a ray-gun annihilating a crowd of innocents - their flesh sizzling and smoking first, before sloughing off and revealing gleaming white bone. The large groups of people turned to skeletons who stood unmoving in the poses of living men and women for an instant, before toppling over and turning into a scattered pile of bones.

The streets ran with blood and the screams echoed through our window as we hid for as long as we could in our apartment, watching the news broadcasts with increasing despair.

Bombs were dropped that turned metropolitan centers to ash. Other weapons spread disease and death through plagues and terrible viruses which spread more rapidly than I'd ever imagined possible.

The invaders looked exactly like us, making it difficult to tell them apart from friendly forces. Their spies infiltrated the government and the military, making our downfall even more complete. We never found out for sure if they were disguising themselves or not. It had never occurred to anyone

The Lost Soldier Part 14

Previous

===O===

Me and Hov rushed to the exit as quickly as we could, both of us tiring of the cold, and drab air of caves, desperate for fresh sunlight and blue skies.

We burst out of the cave entrance. We were greeted by a forrest surrounding us. The skies were blue as I could remember, and damn the air was great. It was easy to forget about these things until you lose them.

I breathed in deeply, trying to fill myself with as much of the fresh air as I could. Hov was doing the same, his spirit allowing such a thing to happen.

We were out of that fucking cave and were all the happier for it. We sat there, just drinking it all in. The freedom of the open air is an amazing thing, when you really think about it.

"Hey Hov." He turned his head towards me, interupting his basking. "Do you know of any local towns or anything we can go to?"

He sat there and pondered for a bit, shaking his head and getting angrier by the second. "Im sorry laddy, being dead down there for so long has fooked my memory up good. Maybe I can jog it if we find a road but don't count on it."

That left us with a decision, left or right?

===O===

We had decided to go right from the cave entrance. The plan was to honestly keep walking. We had no map and no way ro navigate, so our best bet was to just keep walking until we find a road.

I don't want to do more walking to be honest, but you cant go any where without moving!

"Hey Hov, what other species are out here?" I turned to my right to look at him. He took a second and then pointed a finger forward.

"Well theres the Eervi, which I am. You know our general body shape from just me being a nice and powerful example." He said gesturing to himself with more pessaz than meant to be taken seriously.

"Then theres the Olopi, lanky bastards they are. They are like us but with an aversion to body hair and are taller. They are also less muscle bound than the average Eervi, but theres always the exceptions."

I listened with rapt attention. So far we got dwarfs and elves, can't go to another world without 'em I suppose.

"Theres the Ulona, a race of lizard-like folk. They are a diverse bunch those ones, from long snake like tails to dragu appearances. Like wings and shit."

So lizard people. I can also Dragu probably is some sort of dragon. Fun...

"Theres the Qoroth. Kinda similar to the Ulona, but for anything thats not Lizard like. So you know like uhhh... dire wulf

I. Background

WARNING: This thread contains spoilers for major plot points for the upcoming Overlord anime season.

One of the most ambitious DMMORPGs ever created, the vast sprawling world of Yggdrasil had an equally vast history of player adventures, alliances and enemies, yet by the time Overlord begins, it's about to shut down for good. Satoru Suzuki, playing as the character Momonga, is the last remaining member of a guild legendary enough that it once broke the game's top 10 rankings, Ainz Ooal Gown. Aiming to stay until the last second the servers stay up, he comforts himself in the fond memories he made with his friends while the clock ticks to midnight.

However, when it's time, nothing happens - in fact, Momonga suddenly comes to the realization that he can't exit the game, and everything around him is far more real. It turns out that Ainz Ooal Gown's base, The Great Tomb of Nazarick, was made into reality in an entirely New World - and since the guild roleplayed as (mostly) misanthropic monstrosities, Momonga now finds himself as the un

Object 16.

“How dare you”, I grumble, then, a little louder: “How DARE you!” My voice echoes around the concrete tunnels of the complex.

The intern flinches, but holds his glare. Defiant. I don’t think he was expecting me to shout back at him. Politicians don’t shout at members of the public.

Well, they do down here, I think grimly to myself. This whole place is top-secret, so no cameras. No reporters. No stories to sell to the local press.

“What’s your name, son?” I ask him angrily.

He hesitates, then stutters in his response. “A-Aaron”.

I jab a finger into his face. It’s a rude and antagonistic gesture, and I’m well aware of how irritating it is. “Don’t ever talk to me in such a way, Aaron. You may not like my politics but I’m still a human being, damnit. I know your type. You pretend to be compassionate and caring… but then you spout your bile at every available opportunity. I may not be a familiar face down here, and you may not like my Party, but I am your boss, after all. So hold your tongue and get back to work. Pathetic”.

The intern flushes with rage and embarrassment and the corner of his mouth twitches into a snarl, but he says nothing further. Humiliated, he re-joins the group he was walking with. Some scientists-in-training; some low-level guards; and awkwardly and quietly they head on their way down one of the adjacent tunnels of concrete.

I turn back to my guide. Rhys, is the man’s name. He adjusts his glasses and frowns at me.

“…Was there really any need for that, Mr Pritchard?” he asks. (Not my real name, of course. One must protect their identity, especially in this line of work.)

“I won’t stand for such disrespect”, I reply coolly, “especially not down here”. I fix the cuffs of my shirt. “But I do apologise for the interruption”. I gesture for him to continue leading the way. “As you were”.

Rhys sighs, but after a moment he turns, and continues on down the tunnel. His footsteps clack and echo around the walls, illuminated in faint, watery blue-green light.

We pass by plexiglass windows. Thick, and wide, and built into the walls. Some of the rooms are tiny, some of them are more like great halls. Some have goggled and suited scientists inside, some are empty; empty but for their primary occupant.

Encased.

“So”, Rhys continues as we walk. “The subject of your visit. Object 16”.

The Birth of Interstellar Wrestling

Tyson had never heard a louder crowd in his career. It struck his locker room like an earthquake, the muffled screaming of over a million life forms from all across the galaxy, vibrating through the stadium and matching his rapidly beating heart, to the point where Tyson feared the building might collapse from the tremors at any point.

And none of them were cheering for him.

Tyson didn’t let it bother him, though. He signed up for this match knowing full-well the crowd wouldn’t care about him. After all, nobody in the galaxy believed a human could win this bout.

When Earth first received news of alien life, everyone predicted a myriad of things that could arise from cultural exchange. Advances in medicine, engineering, and art were considered inevitable, dazzling any forward-thinking individuals with all the possibilities.

Wrestling, however, was the last thing on anyone’s mind. Very few people on Earth thought the sport would survive the next decade, let alone it becoming the thing that made humanity stand out. This came as a shock to many, but it really shouldn’t have surprised anyone.

People, regardless of their species, always love a good fight.

No one knew this better than Vincent McMiller, the oldest living human. He had been in the wrestling business for over two-hundred years now, kept alive by mechanical augments, intense daily exercises, and ruthless aggression in every facet of life. As soon as the Galactic Federation made contact with humanity, McMiller only had one goal in mind: to expand his wrestling empire beyond the confines of the solar system.

Unfortunately, his first attempt at promoting this event was met by widespread ridicule, especially on Earth. Humans just weren’t considered suited for wrestling by the galactic community; not when compared to some of the other species that were practically built for fighting. One culture in particular, the Bhul'ee, had a complete monopoly on combat sports due to this very reason. The average height of their athletes towered over most folk, some being close to eight feet tall, and they all had four muscular arms, each with hands strong enough to crush a person’s skull.

McMiller, of course, took it upon himself to goad the Bhul’ees into a fight, which was easy considering how prideful they tended to be. He didn’t care that it made the rest of humanity look like obnoxious idiots. In fact, he counted on it. The only thing that mattered to him was that, regardless of the result, aliens th

Monsters and Maidens [135 to 136]

[FIRST][PREVIOUS][NEXT]

Chapter 135 [Alice]

Alice sat down on the chair Helga had brought over from… somewhere. The Valkyrie stuck to her side like glue, so Alice wasn’t sure how it’d been possible to begin with. Still, the teacher was currently overlooking the same field where the Doggirls had been tied down and pinned not a full week ago. Now, each of the men was holding a bag of boar-jerky and, with varying degrees of success and failure, were trying to get the maidens they were assigned to stay put.

Some had the maiden stock still at their side. Others… not so much. A few of them were just running around while the human ‘handler’ was trying to draw their attention or get them to behave. Others would have to remind the maiden to stay in place every handful of seconds.

“Ma’am.”

Huge’s voice drew Alice’s wary attention, the man moving to stand next to her as if, somehow, she were in charge of the operation. The psychology teacher could only look up at him half in disbelief and half in exhaustion.

Long nights reading history in the Baroness’ library were not kind to the eyes.

“Yeah?”

“I’d just thought… erm, excuse me. Just reporting in, things are going smoothly.”

Alice looked at the half-cocked mayhem in front of her, and then back at him. “I have no sense of reference over what’s normal in these things.”

“They’re three weeks ahead of schedule, more or less… ma’am.” He smiled slightly. “At this pace, I’d expect they’d be able to start spending more time together in a week or two.”

“What do you mean with ‘more time together’?”

“Sleep together, eat together, those sorts of things.” The man shrugged. “My main concern is getting them through fragility training.”

“The what now?”

“The gals are currently under constant watch whenever their partners show up, so if anything goes wrong, it’s going to be hard for it to go wrong in a lethal kind of way.” He replied, shaking his head. “But once out there, on their own, they need to be able to understand that humans are more fragile.”

The psychology teacher felt herself grow tense. “And how would you normally… teach this?”

“Through example is the quickest way.” He grimaced. “Thought I’d give you a heads up, ma’am, so you don’t feel startled over what’s going to come next.”

Death's Heralds

2 Toxic and Unbreaking Heralds of Death - 3 A Shroud of Hell

_____

I looked at the monitor, the two ships limping away into the void after being given the smallest of samples of Hikor imperial power. Whoever they were, their breach deep into Hikor space was laughable. It was arrogance incarnate, no one could take on the Hikor Empire, no matter how far one can go without being seen. We rule the galaxy for a reason.

I sent one broadcast to the fleeing ships. "We allow you to live so you may carry this message, vermin. You sneak around our space, our worlds, this is war. You have made your folly, now we will reap destruction. If you are wise, you will stay where you came from. If you are not, your ships will be reduced to scrap and your crew dead like what the rest of your navy will become."

A light tap of a claw against the 'end' button wrapped up the message and sent it. I thought we had full dominion over the galaxy, so the unknown is unexpected. Might be some other rebellious race trying to pull against our yoke, something for the lawbearers to deal with.

______

The mood of the meeting of the 2nd fleet's leadership was of grim anticipation. "This Hikor Empire fired upon exploratory task force 7 and sent a message, a declaration of war. In about two minutes, parliament will give their answer."

Admiral Gibbs knew what the answer was going to be. Most of the prominent MPs were excessively prideful and that carried over to national pride. To not answer a declaration of war? Impossible with them. They could simply not bother, the Hikor couldn't touch them. They were over in galaxy M104, far beyond their own reach.

The phone rang and the room fell silent. Admiral Gibbs picked it up, "hello prime minister, are deliberations over? Yes sir... Yes sir, it will be done." The admiral stood up and looked over all the captains assembled before him.

He exhaled, a mind focused on the terrible fury the Royal Navy has never unleashed before now. "The British Empire is at war once again. Tomorrow, we set course to the Hikor Empire. Humanity's first interstellar war rests upon us, let us make a good showing. It would be a damn shame should the extragalactic bit of the details be smeared by defeat."

A Soul's Gambit

We are close to your location, your shuttle will arrive soon.

It was just him, a large metallic briefcase, and his luxury spinner in the dead of night.

They had told him to wait at this exact location, with a timeframe precise to a second.

A timeframe that dictated the shuttle to appear in 43 seconds, to the dot.

He took one final glance at the image hidden inside the medallion he wore. “Soon” he calmly whispered, “Soon…”

He’d thrown billions at every organization who had promised him a solution, scoured every planet of every system of the cluster, even ventured out to a handful of Xeno civilizations to see if they had an elixir for his predicament.

It never worked, every game-changing startup, every overpromising alien salesman, always to end in tragic failure, yet his desperation only increased with every successive failure, his drive piercing every dark corner of the cluster that his fortune could permit.

And it all led him to this, to the boogeymen.

He was not one to argue, for all the enigmatic messaging and cryptic information that the alien organization seemed so fond of, what they showed seemed lightyears ahead of anything he’d seen throughout his search.

Sure he was dealing with the boogeymen of the cluster, yet he’d dealt with far more insidious characters inside parliaments and offices than what he’d conversed with the mysterious beings.

He’d already deposited a hefty sum, not of money but one of goods. Exotic plants, animals, genetic data, cultural artefacts, the list could go on and on. Collectively it had already cost him a moon’s worth, yet it made sense. Why would an advanced alien organization want fiat money when priceless artefacts and near-extinct species were up on the discussion table?

The cost was set to only increase as they furthered neared completion of their work, yet that was acceptable, for it would once again bring meaning and purpose back to his now dull life.

He gazed at his platinum lined watch, precisely 43 seconds had just passed.

We have arrived

The alien shuttle seemingly emerged from the air itself, its matte black exterior revealing itself as the shuttle silently decelerated to a halt, only to hover a dozen meters before where he stood.

It reminded him of the cloaking technology his R&D department was working on for the military, though this version was the real tangible thing, unlike the never-ending sinkhole his project had become.

As it sat suspended above the ground a set of stairs
