Conglomerate is a clastic sedimentary rock made up of rounded clasts that are greater than two mm in diameter. The spaces between the clasts are generally filled with sand & clay-size particles.

These pictures come from the banks of the Escondido creek in the Elfin Forest Recreational Reserve in northern San Diego County, CA, USA. I'm an art teacher who loves science, so I'm fairly well read for a lay person. I would guess that these are slightly (?) metamorphic rocks, as the clasts have melted a little around their perimeters. In some instances, there were weathering cracks right along the clast boundaries. In other instances, the cracks cut across clast and matrix alike. Both types of rock appear to erode at the same rate, as they were smooth across boundaries.

Found this in a stream in NW Vermont. It's not carbonate, and has a Mohs around 3 (Mohs of clasts closer to 5). My guess is a siltstone breccia with sandstone clasts, but I'm no expert. reddit.com/gallery/i89dzk

Theories on yard rock#3? The larger clasts have 2 different textures; fine grained and porphyritic. The tonalite has a later aphanitic intrusion which contains the smaller clasts on the top. The latter also has a couple clasts of granodiorite. Credit card money clip in center for scale.

Weird breccia with large rectangular phenocrysts, mafic volcanic clasts, grains of metal, extremely hard, black matrix, and euhedral olivine in vugs. Shiny bits are metal. They are metal grains, not saw or drill bit smears. Any ideas? This is too cool for r/whatisthisrock.
