So Im watching The Raincoat Killer about Yoo Young-Chul, Im already on the last episode (so I guess spoilers? If you havent seen it). The doc is alright, though I had to look up the timeline of the crimes myself because the narrative left it kind of unclear and left out several details. I assume the names of victims etc are not publicly released in Korea because theyre not clearly mentioned anywhere aside from one post on this sub that listed them.
The thing is, it seems like the narrative is really trying to portray the Seoul police favourably while they basically admit to straight up mishandling the case several times? Im legit kinda stunned that not only did he escape by just, walking out of the police building, but that he went straight back to his HOUSE to dispose of evidence (duh), and meanwhile the chief of the police unit is all like βWe searched every alley for him, where could he have gone?β. That, the re-capture only after they randomly saw him crossing a street like a full DAY later scoping out an area, the way Chief Sunglasses I think admits to lying and βfalsifying recordsβ about him not being a suspect after they let him slip. Dont they mention hitting him while in custody several times to get him to confess too? You know, after the chance arrest that they didnt even make themselves (it was basically the brothel owner who realised sex workers were going missing)? While also stating that at that point they had no evidence against him? And during all of this, they at no point.... asked for his address? I cant tell how much of it is them telling on themselves or just the doc leaving things out, but it really doesnt look good, aside from the profilers at the very start.
Even the other things Ive looked up about the case make it seem like 5 possible victims were left unconfirmed or unidentified, and info like his prior arrests is pretty scattered or conflicting. Granted, I donβt know much about the South Korean police but this show doesnt really flatter them, while also looking like its reaaaalllly trying to.
Anyway just posting this to see if any more is known about this guy since it caught my interest, especially the weird unknown details, with like the burnt van murders and stuff.
I understand Han to be one of the most daring philosophers of our times, but I want to know what the academics (traditionally continental) think of his work. Iβve heard many criticisms about how the shortness of his work makes his points superficial and redundant, but also praises that he is able to keep his work concise and straight to the point without the need to use excessive jargons. How do fellow academics view Byung-Chul Han?
Hello everyone! I have read some books by the philosopher Byung-Chul Han, in which he says that we have gone from a disciplinary society (Foucault) that exercised biopower to an achievement society (and fatigue) that exercises psychopolitics.

The performance society (as well as psychopolitics) would be a way of power being more "smart", as the subject would exploit itself to serve the ideals of productivity and positivity of the neoliberal society. For Han, "mental illness" would be the result of exhaustion and a feeling of inadequacy by not reaching unrealistic performance ideals.
What practical implications of these reflections do you see in your therapeutic work? Do you think anything changes in therapy from the disciplinary society to the achievement society ?

Don't get me wrong, he is absolutely trash for what he does (drugging girls and being a little bitch overall) BUT I find his snide remarks to be hilarious. He is not afraid to point out the BS that occurs within the Hirahara family which is refreshing. SOMEONE needs to point it out. For example, he commented how Kousuke didn't get scolded for falling on the ground at the formal, but Yeong-gi would.

So I just saw a Twitter thread with all the participants and I'm just shocked and disgusted. There is a trainee who just celebrated her 11th birthday no later than YESTERDAY, that means when she was recruited she was still 10 years old. And there are other girls who are 12/13 years old (the same age as Koki from Loud).
I hate to blame parents but WTF ? I canβt understand why they let such a young girl who just graduated from elementary school go on a Kpop survival show ? And how tf could MBC/Han Dong Chul recruit a child ? This is really crazy

I know that there are only English translations of a few of his books. Which is the best introduction to his thought? What other theorists should I be familiar with before grappling with his work?
I just got from Korean breaking news. I may update once I get English news articles on him. As he has completely retired from soccer (including coaching) years ago, maybe not so many articles would be around.
He was a one-of-a-kind player. His main position is holding midfielder, but he could play reasonably well as center forward, wing, box-to-box, center back, wingback. Not top world class tier in any position, but quite good enough.
So Korean tactics could be really fluid and versatile when he is on the field. He moved up to forward position when a forward get injured during Poland match, and he scored a goal. He dropped back to center back position during Italy match when center back was exhausted, and he did reasonably well.
He had some rumors with Barcelona and Juventus, though not done with either. He was already 30 during the world cup and too old to start new career at Europe.
He had been suffering from pancreatic cancer, and retired from coaching in 2019. He had some improvements and relapses apparently. But finally succumbed.

Here's something I only recently found out as a big Judas Priest fan: close similarities between Judas Priest's "Metal Messiah" from the 2001 Demolition album and Korean rocker Shin Hae-chul's song "Machine Messiah" from the 1999 album Monocrom.
In Judas Priest's Demolition in 2001 (final album with Tim Owens as vocalist before Rob Halford's return), the last song is "Metal Messiah", written by guitarist Glenn Tipton & Chris Tsangarides. Tsangarides had writing credits on Priest's "A Touch of Evil" from Painkiller (1990).
Tsangarides previously collaborated with Shin Hae-chul in 1999 on an experimental metal album called "Monochrom". The song "Machine Messiah" shares many similarities with Judas Priest's "Metal Messiah". Same guitar riff, shrill pinch harmonic, and a Middle Eastern-inspired interlude.
Based on YouTube comments, it seems like Shin Hae-chul expressed dismay at Tsangarides for "borrowing" so much from "Machine Messiah" for Judas Priest's "Metal Messiah", but never pursued legal action.
Sadly, Shin Hae-chul died due to medical malpractice in 2014. Chris Tsangarides also sadly passed away in 2018. We may never truly know what was going on with Tsangarides reusing elements from "Machine Messiah" for "Metal Messiah", unless Glenn Tipton knows something about it?
In my opinion, I like both songs, but the copied riffs and song structure are verrrry apparent.
