Eric Zemmour - Merry Christmas ! [Speech about Christendom and European Civilization]

I didn't have enough time to properly edit subtitles, so I just did a plain translation of Eric Zemmour's beautiful Christmas video:

My dear compatriots, my friends,

This evening Christendom celebrates Christmas. But not only Christendom, because it is quite possible to be non-Christian and to celebrate Christmas. You just have to love the West in general and France especially.

Christmas eve celebrates the birth of a civilization: ours!
A civilization which has enlightened human history.
A civilization which considers that Man is completely free. Whatever his birth, his past, his environment, his journey… In the Christian world, freedom is of divine nature and must be protected as the most precious treasure.

A civilization which considers that all men are absolutely equal in dignity. All of them! From the prostitute to the king, the beggar, the rich, the widow, the orphan, the soldier, the leper…
God's children and everyone else are therefore equal before him. There is no race, there is no class. Equality is sacred.

A civilization which considers that Beauty is sacred too. The civilization of Rembrandt, Leonardo da Vinci, Bach, Mozart, Beethoven… Paintings, sculptures… Works of technical perfection and stunning depth! The whole world admires Western art. It's impossible not to be astonished by Michelangelo's Pieta.

A civilization which considers that Truth is neither theoretical nor relative but concrete, embodied, and sacred. To refuse Truth is to refuse Good. Lie is the daily and eternal figure of Evil. This infinite respect for Truth has allowed the colossal development of philosophy and of hard sciences in the West.

A civilization which considers that Heaven on Earth does not exist and will never exist.
A civilization which refuses to believe in utopias, those projects of perfect societies: communism, nazism… they destroyed the 20th century and threaten the 21st with new but worrying faces.

A civilization which opposes totalitarianism like the day opposes the night.

A civilization which considers that sweetness, tenderness and love are superior to all other human behaviors.

Knowing how to win the war is good and the Christian world must never refuse to do it when it is attacked. It must vanquish! But knowing how to win peace after victory is even stronger. It is to this idea that we owe the incomparably peaceful character of Western societies when they are f

There is also the idolatry of movie stars in Christendom... Certainly the German teen-age girls were guilty of idolatry when they painted on the portals of the Bamberg Cathedral in Munich the words, β€œElvis Presleyβ€”my God.” >Watchtower 1/15/1963 pg 53-54 'Christendom's Idolatry Foretold'

I find this downright funny, but not because German girls were going nuts over Elvis (that was happening everywhere) In this instance, what I find ironic is that the Watchtower considers the German girls serious that Elvis is their God yet in John 20:28 they excuse Thomas' confession of Jesus as "My Lord and my God!" as just a figure of speech, like someone saying 'Oh, my God!' So their logic, once again, is subjectively applied. If Elvis was God to the German girls then Jesus was God to Thomas...

Towards a New Christendom: Theoretical and Practical Considerations

Principles of Church and State

Principally, one must make some modest observations in order to derive some principles that will guide us in considering the model after which a new Christendom will take.

One must notice that if man is indeed a person, then he has certain transcendent spiritual needs that all other concrete goods are subordinated to. If this is true, then it follows that there is a necessary subordination of the state and common good by consequence to the church because the spiritual power is ordered to man’s highest good. The common good takes on a religious specification because all goods are ultimately ordered to divine goods. There is no temporal good that is not ordered to the divine, and thus reality bears an essentially religious significance and a consequently a religious specification. β€œThere is no distinction”, Maritain writes, β€œwithout an order of values. If the things that are God's are distinct from the things that are Caesar's, that means that they are better” (Man and the State, p. 152). Due precisely to the fact that β€œ[. . .] the Kingdom ofGod is of a better and higher nature than the kingdoms and republics of the earth” (Man and the State, p. 153), we must understand the relationship of the Church to the political society in terms of the subordination of the body politic to the Church.

The Three Errors

The three errors in conceiving of the relationship between the church and state.

The first error makes the body politic purely the domain of Satan. Many Christians fall into this error because they mistake it for expressing the Christian attitude of humility and contrast this erroneously as the only alternative to the theocratic error. This error has the body politic rule actively in favour of perdition by refusing to accept the body politic can or should be vivified and made Christian. By subordinating the church to the state, or by failing to transform body politic at all, this error assumes the temporal order to be a closed system in which there is no vivifcation and no transformation, in which β€œ[. . .] one refuses to the world its destination to grace and to the coming of the kingdom of God. One restricts redemption to the invisible empire of souls and to the moral order. It would be the extreme error of Western Christendom (when it loses the Catholic sense). It is condemned by the most fundamental and most simple formula by which the Christian faith expresses itself, when it gives to Christ the name of Saviour of

The GB says it’s the clergy of Christendom

Matthew 23:

v 23 How terrible….You pretenders!…You have not practiced the more important things of the law, which are fairness, mercy, faithfulness

v 25 …. You clean the outside of a cup and dish. But on the inside you are full of greed. You only want to satisfy yourselves

v 28 ….. But on the inside you are full of what is wrong. You pretend to be what you are not

Sounds pretty much like the GB to me.

Christians, what books are of the canon in Christendom?

I currently read the Bible in a non-linear way and instead pick selective parts/books to read at a time. I have read Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy and read the 4 Books of Mark, Matthew, Luke and just today completed John, what is the final universal canon accepted by the Majority of Christians?

Christendom VS the Future : What do you think is the Future of the ''Christian World''?

I think in the future, the ''central hubs of Christendom'' will be Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa because Latin America for the foreseeable future will remain a Christian-majority place while Sub-Saharan Africa being a place with super-high fertility rates/birth rates will massively increase the number of Christians in the world in my opinion. But what do you think?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christendom

Romans 2:1 comes into play…

In Jean Bodin's "On the Demon-Mania of Witches", he talks about priests who engage in witchcraft as not just dangerous, but incredibly common. Is there evidence that priests in Latin Christendom were actually associated with witchcraft? Do we have records of priests being arrested for witchcraft?

There are two specific passages in Chapter 5 of the book which go into detail on this topic. First, a passage claiming that priests committing or assisting with witchcraft is a common issue:

>For it has been found in countless trials that witches very often are priests, or they have secret dealings with priests. And by money or by favours they are induced to say masses for witches, and they accommodate them with hosts, or they consecrate blank parchment, or they place rings, inscribed blades or other such things on the altar, or beneath the altar cloths as has often been discovered. Not long ago a curate was caught in the act, and he escaped since he had a good protector, who had given him a ring to place beneath the altar cloths when he said his Mass. (216)

Then, a more general passage about the dangers of priests who practice witchcraft:

>thus the sorcerer-priest is not only more wicked than all of them, but also more despicable than all other witches who are not Priests. For this person deserts his God to abandon himself to the Devil, and betrays sacred things which he ought above all to have kept holy and inviolable. Thus the priest..who has been charged and convicted of setting spells with mirrors, or rings, or axes, or sieves, or other such things which are performed even without formal invocation of the Devil merits death, and the others banishment. (215)

So, was Bodin right about the quantity of trials where priests were found to be witches or assisting witches? Was this a real fear in Europe in the 16th century?
