The contest will be made up of two semi-finals and a final, in which fourteen candidates – soloists, duos, trios or groups – will perform their songs live. The semi-finals will be broadcast on two consecutive nights of the same week. In each of these, seven songs will compete, with four of them making it to the finals.

Voting during the three shows will occur through a combination of the following methods:

• Expert jury (50%) – heads of delegation, journalists, artists, musicians and/or other professionals, 60% national members and 40% international members. In the semifinals, each member of the jury –3 nationals and 2 internationals– individually distributes 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5 and 4 points, while in the final, they distribute 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 and 2 points.

MGP 2022 consists of four semi-finals with four songs each, and an autoqualifier artist and song. The twelve knocked out songs from the semi-finals go to the "last chance" show on NRK1 and P1 on Monday, 7 February, where viewers and listeners will continue to vote for four of the twelve eliminated artists. This broadcast shows the performances from the semi-finals. The four best then go on to the "last chance" on Saturday, 12 February.

Turin Allocation Draw & Host City Insignia

The semi-final allocation draw for Eurovision 2022 will take place live from the Palazzo Madama e Casaforte degli Acaja in Turin! The participating countries (excluding the big 5) will be allocated to one of the two semi-finals on Tuesday 10 and Thursday 12 May, and will also know in which half of the semi they will be performing. This draw will be conducted by Carolina di Domenico and Mario Acampa (Gabriele Corsi was due to present instead of Mario, but had to pull out because of a positive Covid test).

Next to the semi-final allocation draw, the traditional host city insignia exchange will take place. The mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, will add the insignia that symbolizes Rotterdam 2021 (and 2020!) to the insignia key chain, before passing it along to the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo.
