So I’ve been using the original Cameo professionally for about 8years now. Added a CB09 5years ago, and haven’t looked back. To date I’ve used the machine to produce 10’s of millions of dollars worth of sandblasted glass… anyone else have a version 1 still going strong?

Glass (2019) similarities in OLD (2021) and personal theory regarding M. Night Shymalan’s cameo character

For anyone who hasn’t seen OLD yet, do not read any further as major spoilers lie ahead....

The ending to the 2021 film felt very similar if not identical to how glass endedβ€”namely...

  1. an everyday establishment being fronted by a secret organization with ulterior motives

  2. which is headed by a lead, unassuming individual explaining their dastardly plan to a room full of employees/providing detailed exposition for the audience within the last 5 minutes of the film

  3. namely, a plan revolving around the β€˜greater good’/sacrificing a few people to keep order among the populationβ€”only kind of a reverse version of dr staple’s scheme

  4. only to be foiled soon after by one of the main characters, believed to have been inoculated (who in turn utilizes a complex plot device referenced prominently at the start of and throughout the story) and ultimately exposes the aforesaid evil scheme to the rest of the previously unsuspecting world.

Edit 1: As much as I appreciate Shyamalanβ€˜s creativity, I feel the director is slipping into his own set of clichΓ©s, which sadly seems to show that he is running out of unique ideas. I was hopeful that this was going to reignite the tradition of The Sixth Sense and Split; I liked how Old was like a cross between Fantasy Island and The Twilight Zone.

But I really wish M. Night would just go back to continue stories like 12 strangers/Reincarnate (aka the night chronicles series) or even do another one in the tradition of the unbreakable universe.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the ending of oldβ€” especially since the graphic novel his film is based on did not have a good ending from what I understandβ€”but it feels very derivative of his earlier work and wasn’t his most impressive story in my opinion.

It needed a bigger twist than β€˜oh, evil scientists plotting to cure the world of its diseases’.... especially for such a minimalist story stretched into a 2+ hour twilight zone style spectacle.

Edit 2: I find it all the more intriguing that old is inspired by a Swiss graphic novel while Glass was inspired by various superhero/villain comics and themes.

Regarding the character cameo M. Night portrays:

(major spoilers also regarding the ending to 2004’s the village follow below)

He reminds me so much of the character he played in Split/Glass who’s profession involves monitoring security cameras; moreover, he shares similarities with the head of security at the guard shack in The Village (2004).

Is there a connection/are all t
