A list of puns related to "Brutalisation"
The campaign started pretty normally, and alot of fun but when we got a message saying 'is everyone OK with themes of war and genocide and it generally getting a bit dark' to which the answer was 'OK is a strong word but let's see how it goes I guess'. We had expected an arc about war, but we definately did not expect the party to helplessly watch a small child be dragged into a cage with a lobotomised monster and the description of the screams. Further revealing of player characters mother was lobotomised also occurred.
βThere was a far darker side to the U.S. and allied occupation of Japan, one which is little mentioned in the vast majority of histories β American or otherwise. When Japan surrendered in August 1945, mass rapes by occupying forces were expectedβ¦ [despite setting up of a comfort women which recruited or otherwise trafficked desperate women to brothels] such crimes were still common and several of them were extremely brutal and resulted in the deaths of the victims. Political science professor Eiji Takemae wrote regard- ing the conduct of American soldiers occupying Japan:
βU.S. troops comported themselves like conquerors, especially in the early weeks and months of occupation. Misbehavior ranged from black-marketeering, petty theft, reckless driving and disorderly conduct to vandalism, assault, arson, murder and rape. Much of the violence was directed against women, the first attacks beginning within hours after the landing of advanced units. In Yokohama, China and elsewhere, soldiers and sailors broke the law with impunity, and incidents of robbery, rape and occasionally murder were widely reported in the press [which had not yet been censored by the U.S. military government]. When U.S. paratroopers landed in Sapporo an orgy of looting, sexual violence and drunken brawling ensued. Gang rapes and other sex atrocities were not infrequent [...] Military courts arrested relatively few soldiers for their offences and convicted even fewer, and restitution for the victims was rare. Japanese attempts at self-defense were punished severely. In the sole instance of self-help that General Eichberger records in his memoirs, when local residents formed a vigilante group and retaliated against off-duty GIs, the Eighth Army ordered armored vehicles in battle array into the streets and arrested the ringleaders, who received lengthy prison terms.β
The U.S. and Australian militaries did not maintain rule of law when it came to violations of Japanese women by their own forces, neither were the Japanese population allowed to do so themselves. Occupation forces could loot and rape as they pleased and were effectively above the law.
An example of such an incident was in April 1946, when approximately U.S. personnel in three trucks attacked the Nakamura Hospital in Omori district. The soldiers raped over 40 patients and 37 female staff. One woman who had given birth just two days prior had her child thrown on the floor and killed, and she was then raped as well. Male patien

I can loosely remember reading something - I think in this very subreddit - of a rule/standard/maxim put forward by theologians/theorists/philosophers that permits violence towards the subjects of a war enemy, but I cannot seem to find anything during my searches on google. Can anyone help me out here?
Given that we've had a few conversations about boys showing feminine traits and/or getting bullied for such, and school shootings are frequently in the news, this is an excellent article looking into the causes and the way academics and the media portray them. Here's an excerpt of the full article.
> Last week academic newswires reported a fascinating new study which investigated the βshared characteristicsβ of 31 boys who had been involved in mass shootings between 1995 and 2015. The press release (I havenβt yet been able to track down the full report, so Iβm trusting the summary is accurate) is a striking β and in my opinion shocking β illustration of what is wrong with this debate.
> The press release begins as follows:
>> Boys involved in school shootings often struggle to live up to what they perceive as their schoolβs ideals surrounding masculinity.
>> When socially shunned at school, they develop deep-set grudges against their classmates and teachers.
>> The shooters become increasingly angry, depressed, and more violent in their gendered practice.
>> A shooting rampage is their ultimate performance, says Kathryn Farr of Portland State University in the US.
> So, from the outset, this is being described in terms of the boysβ personal shortcomings. They βoften struggle to live up to what they perceive as their schoolβs ideals.β
>> Farrβs analysis suggests that boysβ social status in middle and high school is determined in great part by peersβ acceptance of them as βappropriately masculine.β
>> Their guidelines for gender appropriateness are found in a set of Adolescent Insider Masculinity norms that describe masculinity as the ideal that men are cool, heterosexual and tough, shy away from βsissy stuffβ and embrace activities, behavior and mannerisms that are typical of βguys.β Falling short of this ideal sets some boys up for school-situated problems and reactions that are typical of adolescents.
> βFalling short of this ideal sets the boys up for school-situated problems and reactions that are typical of adolescentsβ Again, the problem is with the individual. If only they had managed to live up to that ideal, everything would have been fine. And apparently the reactions of their peers are entirely understandable, because hey, that

Couple of days ago it was announced that most wild animals will be in decline by ~2020. These people are trying to protect what little is left of the natural earth in the USA. They are met with force from the state, how can the police justify this in their heads? Its their home planet too. This isn't some 'left green' bullshit, its about being a fucking normal human. Google 'oil spill' from this year alone in the USA and you will see why these people are protesting.

Hello all. We are in need of volunteer advocates to help us out in the ongoing queer plight in Kakuma refugee camp Kenya. We are being discriminated, we are facing sorts of injustices, raped, shelterless, persecuted, brutalised by police, and we need support to amplify our voices. We are thinking of a new campaign and we need your support, we need volunteers to help us out with this because we can't do it alone as queer Migrants in a refugee camp. Thank you. #freeblock13kakuma #InSolidarityWithBlock13
