... keep reading on reddit ➡I've seen much discussion about Blackwood versus Bracken recently, with some readers insinuating that GRRM himself is biased towards the Blackwoods. I disagree with this interpretation, and would like to highlight two Brackens that have a very understated (and disconnected) story: Ser Lyle Bracken and Ser Olyver Bracken.
While they are never mentioned in the same sentence, passage or page, it can be assumed the pair are brothers based on their status: Lyle was a member of the King's Landing chapter of the Faith Militant's Warrior's Sons, housed in the Sept of Remembrance that King Maegor later burned with numerous members of the Faith Militant inside. Olyver however, was a member of King Maegor's Kingsguard. It is not mentioned when Olyver joined the Kingsguard, but it can be assumed it was after Lyle joined the Faith Militant.
As many readers will know if they read Fire & Blood, the Faith Militant had volatile relations with House Targaryen as early as the late reign of Aegon the Conqueror. By 41 AC, they were in outright rebellion against King Aenys for his support of his children's incest and refusing to denounce his brother Maegor for his various offences. Aenys died under strange circumstances in 42 AC, and Maegor usurped the throne meant for Aenys' eldest son, Aegon. Maegor had a famous Trial of Seven shockingly not over his guilt in his crimes but over his usurpation. Among the Faith Militant's seven champions was Ser Lyle Bracken. As we know, King Maegor was the only survivor of this trial, with many readers suggesting Maegor was actually killed and resurrected by Tyanna of the Tower due to his severe injuries. So Lyle Bracken was killed fighting for the Faith.
But Olyver Bracken served Maegor faithfully until 48 AC, upon which he and his sworn brother Ser Raymund Mallery abandoned Maegor in the face of Aenys' third son Jaehaerys being supported by every other living Targaryen and Lord Rogar Baratheon. Like other members of Maegor's Kingsguard, Olyver and Raymund were given the choice of execution or being sent to the Night's Watch on the Wall. Olyver, Raymund and their other sworn brothers Ser Symond Crayne and Ser Jon Tollett chose the Wall. Because of their status as Kingsguard Olyver and Raymund were each given command of their own keep on the Wall.
All was right until in 50 AC they conspired and made themselves lords with the support of former Faith Militant. That's right, former Faith Militant fighting Maegor were sent to the Wall b

Let’s say this is real life and Bracken is arrested for the conspiracy. Would the DA have enough evidence to convict him? At the end of season 6, they only really had the tape and part of the cashier’s check for a closed down bank account. everyone associated with the case is dead (beyond the kidnapped monster) so who would testify? What other evidence would they use to convict him?
I have only read the main books and Dunk. I have zero clue what the history books say.
In the Bracken-Blackwood feuds, the author of the book itself and fans seems to side with the Blackwood that I'm hoping to find fics that at least support the Brackens in the fanfiction side, so any fics that are support brackens or at least has a bracken-bias?
House Bracken is lead by an old man. Their reputation is tarnished by military defeat, the fabric of their family woven through with bastardy. Their rivals wax in power and influence while they are looked over.
And yet, only a fool would make an enemy of the Brackens. Those who test our resolve will soon find it is forged from bitter steel.
Does anyone else think the ending was a bit TOO easy, almost as if she just wanted to be done with writing the book. I thought it was a way too easy solution and it left me feeling unsatisfied
This should be the last post I ever ask for help. I’ve gotten e v e r y t h i n g but that pesky bracken poisoning still avoids my grasp. I know there’s a lot of uncertainty about it (in the posts I’ve read anyways) but I’d prefer if someone had some surefire stuff. I don’t wanna try something for hours just for it to be wrong.
Because if so. That mean everytime somoene hit that thing with a hammer like Jayce did, he was hurting skarner cousin.
