A list of puns related to "Avoidable"
It seems like MOST of the time when someone says "no pun intended," it's right after they could have made an easily-avoidable pun. Not only did they not avoid the pun, but I think they got very excited at the possibility of that pun, made it, and added "no pun intended" as a marker to draw attention to it.
Sometimes I've noticed people repeat their puns, and repeat the cursed phrase. Sometimes the pun is not even the most natural or direct way of saying a thing, but that didn't stop them from making the pun that they didn't intend.
The study of etymology (the study of words, not ants) has been a bit of a curse to me as both a fantasy fan and author, because whenever I come across or use a word whose etymology I know or can intuit based off my prior knowledge, I immediately have to parse whether it makes sense there. Some words are just so tied into the history, culture, and evolution of a language that they just don't make sense in fantasy novels. It throws me out of the story if it doesn't makes sense, which, well, is really jarring. I could just stop studying etymology, I suppose, but that's definitely not happening and there's no point suggesting it.
When reading a fantasy novel and giving serious consideration to what's going on language-wise inside the story, you've got to assume that the characters are either:
A: speaking English (or whatever language you're reading the book in), or
B: Having their speech translated from their language into English (or, again, whatever language you're reading in) by the author of the book. (Or, rarely, by a translator within the book who is acting as a narrator.)
So, let's look at A: Everyone Speaks English, or at Least All the Good Guys Across the Multiverse DO
UGH.
English (or whatever language you're reading in, but for shorthand, I'm just going to talk about English here) is not the default. It's not like Esperanto, an ahistorical artificial language (also known as a conlang, or constructed language). English (and every other living language) evolves over time, and has a history just as involved and tied in with its people as any government, nation, culture, or artistic tradition. If history had gone a different way- say, the Spanish Armada successfully conquered England- the English language as it is spoken today would be a remarkably different beast. The American Revolution fails? The Black Death never happens? Same cup of tea. (This is probably a major reason why Esperanto failed- its lack of history makes it feel sterile and dead compared to a dynamically evolving language.)
So a fantasy world, even if it had the same linguistic starting point as our world, would end up with a remarkably different language, just based off their history. This gets even more exaggerated when you include loanwords, which I'll have a whole rant about here in a bit. You know what? I'm going to have an Appendix on it, because unnecessary Appendices are the what's best in life, Conan. Anyhow, even assuming the fantasy world had the same starting p

Ideally the govt should hire and deploy mobile teams in every District/Panchayats to vaccinate the people ward by ward. Despite having such a huge manpower and unemployment rate in the country and enough financial resources at hand, the government should have had the brains to hold enough vaccine for its own citizens, but that's gone for a toss. Take the money, mobilise people, give everyone the jab. You fucks know how to conduct an election in every nook and corner of the country don't you? Adopt the model and spend the fucking money you begged the entire world to contribute to your PM Cares fund and make it public what and how and where you are spending it. Have some shame, get off your simhaasanas, you morons.
People have to struggle for everything in this country. Everything. The government is a fucking gimmick. Added oxygen to the list this year. CoWin site is trafficked out, and we have third party sites to 'help get the slot'. 'how to get a slot on cowin' is a Google suggestion now, enough people are searching it. Am I wrong?
Speaking as a PUG mythic+ healer in grievous wounds week, I can't tell you how many times people stand in shit and get one shotted and then start flaming the healer WhErES MY HeALS and in their defense I believe the game poorly distinguishes passive all around damage from "You should have dodged that you idiot" damage. There should be an in game visual or sound that clearly shows the entire group you stood in the fire, not to humiliate but to just teach people. Otherwise too many assume that its passive damage and the healer is sleeping.
First of all, let me preface with F the Soviets! They killed 4 astronauts, risked killing everyone in Jamestown (including their own Cosmonauts), and worse, not punished whatsoever. Not even an apology.
I think Gordo and Tracy's deaths could've prevented. NASA didn't make any attempts to negotiate with the Soviets.
Given the imminent nuclear meltdown, Soviets might've allowed Gordo or Tracy to retrieve one of the suits, and perform the procedure with their supervision. Yes, they would possibly become their hostage but that's far better than nuclear meltdown.
Last November, some of you might recall, something went wrong with reddit. A non-insignificant amount of users got logged out and their passwords no longer worked. The password reset/recovery email never arrived at their mailboxes - at least that was the case for me. So i was effectively locked out of my account.
I figured - what the hell, might as well start over. Get a new account, subscribe to actually useful subs for a change and go clean, leaving old garbage subscriptions and post history behind.
And that is what i did. I subbed to a few subreddits, things relevant to my interests like sysadmin, science, keto, meditation, cycling, fitness, fantasy books etc.
But i could not post everywhere, if i was seeking advice/help. Or respond if i had answers. In most of those subs you need to have account that is X days old and has Y amount of total upvotes (the so called karma).
Where do you get it? Well, somewhere else. You need to go to popular subs and do some "shitposting". Or participate in typical reddit shenanigans you try to avoid. Pun threads, low quality comments, pointless remarks, etc.
I am a person who doesn't really care about up/downvotes. If i want to comment on something/share my opinion - i try to do so. If i get showered with downvotes - i don't delete my post. It does seem that reddit itself does care, though. If your 'karma' is too low, your post rate goes down. And in some subreddits the aforementioned account age + total karma restrictions come into play.
So basically the system seems rigged against you. In order to participate in decent subreddits, you have to get down and dirty first and earn some of that upvotes elsewhere (or use a second account, make some posts on first one and then upvote your posts). Feeding that bad habit that makes you a proverbial 'redditor' - a person with certain behaviors that does not contribute to quality discussion.
It seems as if it's all designed to keep you engaged in lower-quality subreddits, building a counter-productive habit. If you do not believe me, try making a fresh throwaway account and posting something in subs with stricter moderation.
The obvious alternative is not to participate - just find what information you need and never post. I honestly am not there yet, but i think i will eventually.
Welcome to /r/LogoDesign's 111th logo battle!
Here, we battle to design the winning logo for a fictional client.
The Rules
A plain, non-mockup version of your logo uploaded to Imgur in JPEG or PNG format must be included in your comment. Only entries posted in top level comments will be counted.
Logo Battles occur every 2 weeks, and will end at a random time on Saturday (PST).

At the end of the voting period, the top 3 entries (by upvotes) will be announced in a battle results/post-battle discussion thread. A "moderator's choice" entry will also be announced and that entry will be selected by the moderator overseeing that battle. Additionally, the 1st place popular vote winner will have the privilege of inventing the fictional client (company, service, product, etc.) for the next battle.

Regardless of how you feel about the Rachel controversy and wether you believe that she's a racist or think she just went to a harmless costume party, this is basically a textbook example of what people mean when they say "cancel culture": someone does something problematic in their past and social media digs it up years later (usually after the person in question rises to fame or prominence) then brings it to light with the intention of getting them fired or removed from the public eye.... That's not what happened to Chris Harrison at all.
Chris Harrison has been the host of the Bachelor and it's spin-offs for 19 years now as well as being an executive producer. He is basically the face of the Bachelor franchise and his words hold a lot of weight with the fanbase. He willingly went on TV and did an interview where he was asked about the Rachel controversy and he could've just refused to comment on the situation until he had more information or until Rachel broke her silence, or he could've tried to take a middle of the road opinion and not cancel Rachel but also not strongly defend her, or he could've actually spoken to Rachel at some point about this situation and gotten her side of the story and used her own words to defend her with some of his own opinions spliced in, he did none of that.
He opened by admitting he hadn't discussed these allegations with Rachel at all and despite that went to bat for her wholeheartedly and defended her from the Twitter mob, repeatedly making excuses for her behavior and basically absolved her of blame and criticism while strongly condemning the people who were upset with Rachel. By basically everyone's account that I've seen and indeed my own opinion, he spectacularly failed to take the heat off of her and only managed to catch himself on fire in the process and unquestionably made the entire situation much worse for ABC. And that's a problem because as a host for a show like this your job is to basically stay out of the firing line, do damage control where you can, and generally be as inoffensive as possible and not hurt the brand under any circumstances, and Chris Harrison failed in his duties. He showed terrible judgement and absolutely should have known better. So once all the headlines started being about him and social media was calling for his head and former Bachelor contestants began calling him out the next course of action was pretty obvious.
Chris Harrison put out a pretty sincere sounding apology,

Edit: Not GME but another overvalued share
My friend has some issues with her mother because her mother is very I'm not gonna say strict but according to her friends and family, she is crazy. My neighbor and my friend are sisters so my friend sometimes comes to the apartment building we live in. I remember at my birthday party my friend was supposed to spend the night but her mother told her that she had to come home and my friend told me at first it was because her mother didn't want her to run into a girl that she got beef with that lives in my building but then she said: "Oh that's not why, my mother just wants me to come home." So I thought that okay she must be somewhat strict because her mother doesn't really know me as much.
So a few days ago my friend and her cousin came to my neighbor's house because her mother was going to let her stay the whole week over there. My friend came at night to tell me this so I was excited but then the next day at like 6:00 am her mother called her sister and asked when is her daughter going to come home but mind you it wasn't even a whole day and my friend's mother wanted her to come home. My neighbor was mad because she wasn't supposed to wake up for work yet but because of the call my neighbor, her daughter, and my friend woke up early and couldn't go back to sleep. Then later on her mother wanted my neighbor's daughter to come over to her house but her own daughter couldn't stay there so her mother wanted her to come home, so my friend got very angry and my neighbor got angry because the original plan was for my friend to stay the whole week over there but then her mother wanted her home. It's hard for my friend to go anywhere, even to a corner store to get a bag of chips, even though her brother can go wherever he wanted. So my neighbor and my friend's mother were kind of arguing and then my friend's mother was using her two children to argue with my neighbor which was very stupid and wrong. So then my friend told her mother, "Well you should have never had me," which made me feel for her because that's how I feel about my own family who are very toxic. I hate how parents act like we should be grateful that we are born but treat us like we are a mistake like if you didn't want to have kids just yet or have kids at all there are options!!! I'm not saying we should have been aborted but still goddamn!!!
"Digital signature is a process ensuring that a certain package was generated by its developers and has not been tampered with. Below we explain why it is important and how to verify that the Tor Browser you download is the one we have created and has not been modified by some attacker." https://support.torproject.org/tbb/how-to-verify-signature/
"Installation β (Recommended) Verify the file's signature." https://tb-manual.torproject.org/installation/
Tor Metrics shows that over the previous 90 days inclusive, from January 8 to April 7, 2021, the daily number of Tor Browser initial downloads at the Tor Project site has ranged from a high of 114,497 to a low of 76,519, and the daily number of Tor Browser signature downloads has ranged from a high of 14,751 to a low of 5,867, amounting to a total of 8,292,418 Tor Browser initial downloads and 711,589 Tor Browser signature downloads over the 90-day interval. (Download CSV data file).
During this 90-day interval, users of Tor have performed at the Tor Project site a daily average of about 92,138 Tor Browser initial downloads (median: 90,660) and a daily average of about 7,907 Tor Browser signature downloads (median: ~7,730).
These numbers show that during this 90-day interval, about 86 percent of users did not download the Tor Browser signature file when they got the Tor Browser initial download, which indicates about 86 percent of users did not verify the signature before they installed Tor Browser.
If an attacker successfully tampers with and infects a Tor Browser download with malware, a user can determine whether someone has tampered with the download by following the steps necessary to verify whether the download is the actual genuine Tor Browser product that the Tor Project intended for the user to download and install.
If someone tampers with the Tor Browser download, and the user follows the steps to verify the signature of the download, the user will see a notification warning something like the signature could not be verified, is untrustworthy, or is bad β the user should not trust or install that Tor Browser
... keep reading on reddit β‘So it's been a while since I left the law school admissions world, but I had to come back to see this NDLS shitshow.
I mean, would it not have been reasonable to do something like the following?
>Dear NDLS Enrollee,
>
>"It looks like we offered admission to many more students than we were expecting. Even taking expected yield into account, the number of incoming 1Ls would stretch our resources in ways that negatively affect the kind of student experience we value so highly at NDLS. In response, we would like to extend the opportunity to defer your enrollment for a year should you have the means to. If you want to make this request we will grant it no questions asked."
Maybe add some other incentive, but the brass tacks are there.
Also, I don't know exactly how admissions stats are calculated but (if we're talking self-interested reasons here) NDLS could also have a lower admissions rate next cycle.
Also, if they need a new Dean of Admissions they can hit me up LOL.
