I've been reading about how a US carrier group conducts ASW: with an "outer ring" of ships using passive sonar some 40km+ from the carrier, and an "inner ring" ~20km from the carrier using active sonar to detect anything the former missed. However, both using passive sonar, wouldn't a submarine be able to detect a ship first? Then it can remain stationary to wait for the passive outer ring to pass right through, and home torpedoes on the active sonar signal (which can be detected 10 times the range of the emitting sonar itself). I know that helicopters with dipping sonar aid in ASW work as well, but unclear on how they can cover great swaths of sea when the group is moving at speed.
If Submarines are here to stay, cruisers need to have the ability to project anti-submarine weaponry within at least a couple kilometers. Maybe an option somewhere between planes and dropped depth charges, like the ability to launch depth charges off the side of the ship?
It's infuriating to have a submarine appear right next to me in my heavy cruiser and have no other option but to try and run it over with depth charges while giving up my ability to angle etc.
DD's have the mobility to be able to make depth charges work but it's beyond painful in sluggish heavy cruisers.
For years people have speculated that that sub has mods who work for foreign troll farms to spread disinformation to Americans but while I initially thought that was somewhat far-fetched (but not impossible) it seems much more likely now with so much of the sub consisting of anti-vax disinformation. Pretty much every type of anti-vax propaganda is prevalent on conspiracy. Everything from downplaying COVID (despite a COVID infecting having a variety of horrifying long-term effects that are still being discovered) to lying about the vaccines, to disgustingly and disgracefully comparing anti-vaxxers to Holocaust victims, everything. Conspiracy’s mods and major users seem to be playing the propaganda technique of spreading a variety of contradictory disinformation that ultimately aims to get people to not follow pandemic safety precautions or get vaccinated, thus helping the pandemic rage on and new strains be mutated. Conspiracy is waging biological warfare on America at this point.
You know how many subs did protests to get nonewnormal banned? I am wondering is it possible someone can help make a sitewide protest to happen against conspiracy? Conspiracy is far bigger then nonewnormal ever was and is now spreading even more propaganda.
What is required for the application package? I earned an Electrical Engineering degree with a 2.74 GPA (I was a transfer student). Whom should I get letters of recommendation from if I personally don’t know anyone from the Navy.
SM-3, even the current version has 900km operation range and a hypersonic speed. The new Block2A has up to 1200km range and an even faster speed. Why can't we just convert and modify it so that it can be launched from the ground replacing the Patriots?
Also, I know SM-3, because of the mission, has hit-to-kill system, but I assume it is not too hard to convert it to those fragmented ones for anti-aircraft duty as well.
What is stopping it?
I use my Surface Pro outside a lot while I'm on the go and the screen is so reflective that it can make it hard to see even at max brightness. Does anyone know of any good anti-reflective (not matte) screen protectors? Especially you, u/Daniel_Rubino, since I know that's one of your only criticisms of the Pro 8.
