So I've been playing through Awakening and somethings been bothering me since last night. During The Assault on Amaranthine, when you have to choose between saving the city and the remaining survivors, or destroying the city and returning to the keep, Nathaniel disapproves if you choose to save the city. Just previous to starting this quest, I did Nathaniel's companion quest where he finds his sister is living in the city with her husband who she adores, and she's "due in the spring".
WHY is he ok with destroying the city that his PREGNANT SISTER lives in?? He should have the MOST reason for trying to save the city! I feel like the writers didn't really think this through.
Rei decided that he would venture out into the great unknown of Coruscant's steel jungle of businesses, and spend some time to himself, to keep his mind in balance. Though he put on a brave face to act how Yalvobek wanted in front of the Senate, he stuggled to keep up the facade, and needed to take breaks to calm himself more often. With Ve'nari alongside him, the two got out of the speeder which had escorted them, and they got out and onto the street. Rei wore one of his suits, as he needed to, this one being a standard factory grey, so he wouldn't draw nearly as much attention to himself. It was close to skin tight, and still all metal, to keep himself safe, and to make the suit lighter. Ve'nari had chosen a navy blue dress which reached just past her knees, black high heels, and a large, brimmed hat, the same color as her dress. The two decided to seperate, due to different interests, and Rei walked around for a bit, trying to find somewhere that he would want to check out. He noticed a few places, but the flow of the crowd made it difficult for him to get where he was going. He ended up being pushed aside, stumbling out into a sidestreet. He looked down to the end of it, where a bar was located, and Rei stared at it. For some reason, being there made him feel...uneasy. And the skeleton and blood spattering didn't make him feel any better. He got up, backed away, and forcibly entered the crowd again.
As Rei moved along, he saw another place which drew his attention: a nightclub, which had neon signs shining in the evening light, illuminating the place around it. He opened the door and found the place to be packed. He walked in cautiously, uneasy about what kind of people lived in the area. Fortunately, things didn't seem to bad, so her relaxed and headed over to the bar. A Parwan attended it, and noticed Rei approach.
"A Xa Fel, eh? We don't see a lot of your kind around here. What business brings you to The Amaranthine Discotheque?"
"A bit of a mouthful, isn't it? That name doesn't really roll off the tongue." The Parwan shrugged, getting a drink ready for Rei before he even asked for one.
"Yeah, it is, but I don't make the rules. Now, back to my question, what are you doing here?"
"Well, it's a nightclub, I hardly think you need to question me on why I'm here." The bartender looked closer at Rei, then smiled.
"I recognize you...you're the Senator of Xa Fel, aren't you? Now that's really something we don't see a lot of down here. Hey everyone!

Every few months a post pops up, claiming to have discovered the inspiration for the Curse of the Abyss: decompression sickness.^([1]) The inspiration for the Kuongataris, on the other hand, may be a deep-sea creature, the real-life species Phronima sedentaria.^([2])
Phronima sedentaria is an amphipod and parasite that eats out the insides of its prey, sea salps, and then uses the dead body as a house where it can lay its eggs^([3]), similar to how Kuongataris swarm prey and then use their dead body as a host for its young. Apparently, like the Kuongataris, they can be seen entering and exiting the sea salp, although they probably don't feed its victim because it is dead.
^([1]) For those who still don't know, decompression sickness occurs when human divers rise too quickly from the ocean's depths. Symptoms include, but are not limited to, dizziness (1st layer's curse), headaches (2nd layer's curse), joint pain (4th layer's curse), and difficulty thinking clearly (5th layer's curse). A somewhat-related phenomenon is the deformation that occurs to blobfish when they rise from the deep sea (the 6th layer's curse).
^([2]) I also considered the emerald cockroach wasp as the inspiration for Kuongataris, but they use an injection of venom directly to a cockroach's brain to subdue them, and then seal it up in a burrow with a single egg so its young can eat the cockroach alive. Since Kuongataris seem to neither use venom nor entomb their victims, I don't think the wasp's influence is as strong. That being said, there are other records of insects using biomimicry/camouflage to hunt prey - for example, flower spiders ambushing insects.
^([3]) Deep sea creatures are the coolest.^([citation needed])
Hello all~!
So I'm playing through the whole Dragon Age series for the first time ever in prep for DA4 and I am in Awakening before the big battle. Because I'm playing through the franchise mostly for the lore (I've already watched a friend play thru Inquisition) and to make my own world state, I know most of the outcomes of the big choices (though I know nothing of DA2.)
So I'm at the part in Awakening before you make the choice to save Amaranthine or Vigil's Keep. I plan to save Amaranthine and I have Vigil's Keep fully upgraded. All companion quests have been done, and their approval is all at 100%. However, I know one of them has to die. I plan to bring Justice and Nathaniel to Amaranthine, because I love them, and Justice has become my main warrior (my Warden is a female elven mage.) I was going to leave Oghren and Anders because I know they both survive if the Keep is fully upgraded.
This leaves Velanna and Sigrun.
Because I'm looking at this from a story standpoint I am very torn, especially since both companions have grown on me. If I choose to leave Velanna her body is never found, but we miss out on the semblance of closure with her and her sister and an epilogue where she saves a human village. If I choose to leave Sigrun it's the most fitting since she has accepted her role in the Legion of the Dead and is no longer fighting her fate, but we miss out on being bff's in the epilouge.
What did you guys do?
Note: No idea what I'm gonna do with the Architect yet. I haven't looked up what happens if you ally with him or kill him yet, only what happens with Velanna depending on what you choose.

We are a very new guild looking for genuine and friendly people to help bolster our numbers. We offer a relaxed and supportive environment where new players and veterans alike can take the game at their own pace whilst still being able to engage in guild activities, the only real requirement is that you're nice. You'll find no lack of help, whether it be getting geared, acquiring your first legendary, advice on your class etc. As our guild grows we'll be looking to form a more solid team for raiding, our focus maintaining on everyone enjoying themselves and teaching mechanics rather than a stress fest of trying to clear things as fast as possible.
We are currently very small due to being formed not long ago but we hope to add to our numbers and create a lasting community. If you feel that you'd be a perfect fit or want to ask anything then leave a comment below or message me on battlenet (Lima#2122) or discord (Punk Toast#2074), you can also apply via the in game guild finder. Since my post the other day seemed to be a hit, here's another word that can really spice up your writing!
Amaranthine (adjective) - having a dark, reddish-purple color. Related the mythical amaranth flower, whose color never fades.
This is a great word, because it can be hard to find a word for this particular set of hues. Green has "verdant"; bright colors have "shimmering" or "iridescent". This is a striking color, and "maroon" doesn't really do it justice.
Because of the mythical connotations, this word can also add a similar feel to your writing, which is useful for those of us who write in fantasy fandoms; maroon armor is gross, but amaranthine armor is powerful and likely to instill a sense of awe.
How strange that I only now noticed.
In the Flower Garden the larvae peeking out of the eye sockets of that hollowed out husk of a human and later >!Bondrewds tentacle eye!<!
The imagery is even similar with the Zoaholic taking on the form of a huge flower and the Deceptors essentially mimicking flowers.
And both form hives.
Maybe some of the artifacts were animals that were changed by the curse of the 6th Layer while ascending and later on they are just carried off by delvers who think they are just tools and not originally living beings.
So I've been playing in a Humblewood campaign for the past four months or so, and while it's been fun I can't help but feel uncomfortable by the Amaranthine and the fact that the bird folk are heavily favoured by the gods in the lore. As someone of Native American ancestry, this kinda gives me manifest destiny vibes (the great gods favour ME over YOU so we deserve to be on top).
To deal with this I created a Corvum Archivist (a homebrew based on the 3.5 class of the same name), whose backstory is that he was a theology professor who cast doubt on the fact that the two "Great" deities are birds at all, and that their personification as such is an attempt by the Birdfolk to remain in power and on top at the expense of the Humblefolk.
I feel pretty proud of this but I can't help but feel like I'm a buzzkill for the rest of the party and that maybe there's a better way to go about this, I feel determined to stick to my guns and stand by my character but not if I'm ruining the campaign for everyone else.
