Do addressable fire alarms have some kind of modem communication on board, to transmit data and power over 2 wires.
Other type of security systems need 4 wires, 2 for power and 2 for data.
How, addressable fire alarm inject,data to 24 v dc line to detectors ?
with the help of some capacitor or inductor connected in series ?
Is there any open source protocol,available with hardware for testing , Like Arduino ?

Another glorious day in urban education.
I’m so lucky I just moved in and happened to come downstairs right before it started sparking. I’ve had the house for months but have been busy packing up my old house to move in here, and finally moved in officially a few days ago. I’ve had the Ring alarm system plugged in the whole time while I wasn’t here.
I was making my coffee and started hearing a sizzling and popping sound and smelling burnt plastic. Turned around and realized the plug for the ring home base was sparking in the wall. I quickly unplugged it and ran around unplugging the rest of the ring stuff, and took the batteries out of all of it.
I had heard something about the doorbell cameras being recalled a while back… never heard anything about the home base causing fires though.
This is probably a stupid question, but how can I safely dispose of the ring stuff? Do I just throw it away or is there some special way to dispose of it you think?
I need advice, I live in Ontario Canada. Just had a letter handed to me stating the fire alarm system in our apartment complex is not working and there is no intention to fix it.
Hey guys. Can anyone explain the idea of using dip switches in a fire alarm or co alarm? Used to a address the system by number. Just looking for the formula or an explanation like #45. I have an app for this but I was trying to figure it out.

My previous career was that of a security technician, and I've recently made the transition into embedded software. That said, I'm still new and know almost nothing.
Now that I've been working with I2C and SPI a little bit, I'm curious how alarm systems are able to communicate with keypads and other alarm system data devices that can be up to 2,000 feet away. Would it be as simple as a logic converter to increase the voltage, or are there specific peripherals/protocols for those kind of distances?

Does that require a C-10 or C-16 license? My fire marshall says I can do the installation myself since its my own home and and its low voltage. I have experience in installing/configuring computer networks. There are a couple of local companies but they told me they really only wanted big jobs and it would be months before they could look at my project. Based on my reading of the building code, I will need about 15 AV notifiers and 3 pull stations. What should I expect to pay to have a system that size designed?
I work at a place where I have to constantly sit close to the cupboard with the fire alarm control system. MX-4000 is the model, I am positive.
There are a number of faults (I believe due to the heavy rain getting into detectors). It has been reported to the company maintenance but they are extremelly slow when it comes to fixing the problem. Last time this happened it took them 6 months to fix the issue.

Every 30 seconds or so the internal buzzer will start beeping for about 20 seconds and then go off.
Pressing Mute button doesn't work! If I press Mute, it will eventually start beeping again.
Is there a way to at least silence the buzzer sound somehow until they come to fix it eventually?
