>Zinc Oxide Description:
>Inert earth mineral used as a thickening, lubricating, and sunscreen active ingredient in cosmetics. Along with titanium dioxide, zinc oxide is considered to have no risk of skin sensitization. As a sunscreen, it is effective in providing protection against sunβs UVA rays in addition to UVB rays. Zinc oxide is also sometimes used in makeup to impart opacity to products like foundations, particularly powder-based makeup.
thedermreview.net: >Zinc oxide is an ingredient that is thought to have been used in health and skincare applications for millennia. Although we donβt know when the benefits of this ingredient were discovered for the first time, the oldest and the closest reference is believed to be the description of a healing salve in the Charaka Samhita, called Pushpanjan, used to treat the eyes and open wounds in India around 500 BC.
You'll find it in some Ayurvedic skin creams listed as yashad/jasad bhasma. Like in Emami Boroplus, which I consider a great thick, soothing occlusive for dry skin. It's got a lot of others oils and botanicals in there, too. Time was that my skin loved Boroplus, in winter, but malassezia/fungal acne intervened, and alas, now I can only recommend it as an option to others π
Another common product that contains zinc oxide is the much loved Boroline. I like the night cream version - which is the same as the original, only smoother and therefore, slightly more expensive.
#Benefits of zinc oxide:
β¨1. Mild antibacterial properties that may help to reduce secondary infections in acneic skin, that occur when blemishes cause open wounds.
β¨2. Reduces skin redness and irritation, is skin-soothing and supports wound healing. Calms reactive or sensitive skin.
Of course, it's also a major ingredient in sunscreen.
Most of its benefits seem to be because it forms a barrier on the skin, but unlike oils and waxes, it's not greasy. In fact, it's slightly astringent because of it's absorbent qualities, and removes oil. I'd say it's about 1/4th as drying as multani mitti (kaolin clay) π€

I made a post a while back about how my crotch has become sensitized to clothes and other textiles, and figured some of you might be interested in this.
I set out to do some googling assuming that the chemical receptors TRPV1 and TRPA1 have become sensitized and part of some sorts of vicious upregulation loop, as per recent review papers out there. There are ways our bodies can downregulate these receptors with various mediators and hormones, but if that's broken, I guess one way is to force these receptors to submission using what are called agonists or antagonists. Capsaicin is a widely recognized agonist that activates and downregulate TRPV1, and as a result, TRPA1, but I don't wanna rub that stuff on my dick.
Turns out there are other naturally occurring substances out there that inhibits these receptors, and one of them is zinc:
Zinc Inhibits TRPV1 to Alleviate Chemotherapy-Induced Neuropathic Pain
Can't hurt to try, right? So I ordered a cream containing 10% zinc oxide, TENA proskin Zinc Cream, and carefully rubbed it on my red and inflamed dick. First on the outside to test for bad reactions, then on the tip the next day. Just the tip.

The redness and stinging heavily decreased over night, and after three days my dick fully regained it's normal healthy appearance, not a trace of that itchy stinging sensation from clothes or my bed. It even felt a bit numb to the touch. Nice.
I did no more applications and after 14 days my dick started getting irritated and turning a bit red again, so I reapplied the zinc cream, and sure enough, the redness went away the next day. I've not applied it on more parts yet, which might help with the UTI symptoms, bladder pain and stinging arsehole, but I feel at peace knowing I have a remedy that seems to provide relief while I continue to work for a more systemic approach.
Now, before you go off trying this or ODing on zinc supplements, keep in mind that too much zinc is considered toxic, at least in diet, and a article suggests that high concentrations of zinc can cause inflammation in TRPA1. I take no responsibility for what you do to yourself ;)

... keep reading on reddit β‘My dermatologist has me using Clindamycin, which does seem to help keep things under control especially if I eat very clean and live an otherwise spartan existence.
However, another medical professional in my family recommended zinc oxide cream, and I gave it a try a couple times. It does seem to keep the infection sites stay very clean and feels like it helps.
Just wondering if anyone else has tried it and what your experience has been.
Thank you!
I think I might be on to something, I use a sunscreen that soothes my skin, forms a layer of protection and is anti bacterial anti microbial, after some research I believe itβs the zinc oxide that is the reason my skin loves it so much.
does anyone recommend any zinc oxide product, creams or anything? any One have any experiences with zinc? Good or bad? Any help or answers are greatly appreciated.
hey! so i got this devil a couple of weeks. redness and lots and lots of tine puss-filled bumps. thought it was just some really stubborn acne, so i used a triamcinolone cream as iβve done for the past couple of years (yeap, iβm a moron). it went away for a few days and came straight back, as it does. i finally realized what it was last week and bought clortimazole cream to give it a try, based on all of the success stories. it got rid of all of the pustules in two days! what remained was redness and some flakiness. i thought, as it has fixed the pustules issue, but wasnβt doing much for the redness and dryness, i should switch to smth else. so, i got a zinc oxide diaper cream. iβve also done some blood tests recently that showed that iβm a bit zinc deficient, so it made sense that it (along with the steroid use) may be the culprit. i used the diaper cream yesterday, and woke up to some ridiculous level of flakiness. like, it looks like iβve been dipping my face in my own saliva for the whole night. i think the redness has subsided a bit (i canβt really see behind all of the white flakes), but iβm not sure whether i should continue with it.
i know some people mentioned flaky and dry skin being a part of recovery process. how bad is it supposed to be though? i have no bumps/pustules anymore, just patches of redness and now flakiness. iβm so scared i made it worse as wellβ¦
also, would you recommend smth to moisturize it? i know moisturizing is not recommended, but i feel like this is the case where, if i leave it like it is, itβs going to further damage the skin
thank you!
Hi beautiful ppl .. I need your help .. so there's a new study that states that zinc oxide can degrade your chemical SPF ..and i splatter translucent powder on my face in order to suck the oil and the greasy look of my P20 kids sunscreen ..but im worried now that ive been degrading my spf all this time .. any suggestions for powders without zinc? Many many thanks xxx
As you all know, whole zinc oxide is Not the best at absorbing UVA skin damaging rays, it at least, for many years has been touted as being incredibly photostable (meaning it doesn't lose its effectiveness or become toxic when exposed to the sun even after many hours).
Well a new study showed the exact opposite of this finding. This is very discouraging... Should we be ditching our zinc oxide sunscreens then?

I've been having some weeping eczema on some of my eczema patches and wondering if anyone has good experience with calamine lotion? I heard that it dries out the weeping eczema and allows it to heal. For zinc oxide, I have also heard that it kills the bacteria on the weeping eczema, stops itching, and allows it to heal also?
I suffer from scaly, itchy, bumpy patches on the creases around my mouth. I started using aveeno kids sensitive skin sunscreen (zinc oxide as the only active ingredient) in the morning and night after skin care: CeraVe moisturizing face wash Sulfur bar wash (not every day) The Ordinary niacinamide+zinc serum The ordinary squalane oil (night only)
I have been using that skin care routine for months but my patches have not looked as good as they do nowβ¦Iβve only been using the sunscreen for three days. I still struggle with some redness, but I have no irritation throughout the day and no bumpy pustules!
