Computer Status gadget for Windows Sidebar displaying PC details on a Windows Mobile smart phone with Windows SideShow

Windows SideShow is a feature introduced in Windows Vista that enabled an auxiliary display to receive data from an associated machine. One scenario for Windows SideShow is system monitoring.

There are a few applications for Android or iPhone that do this today, but Windows SideShow as a platform enabled devices to display these details before the advent of app stores or platforms, and without installing applications on the phone or client software on the PC β€” you only need to install a gadget on the PC β€” in accordance with user preferences and without the concerns that these installations entail. For smart phones, Microsoft released the Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile Developer Preview in 2008, enabling smart phones running Windows Mobile 5.0 or later to be SideShow devices, so Windows Mobile smart phones can monitor connected PCs remotely.

Windows Sidebar gadgets can be extended to Windows SideShow, which allows a gadget on the Windows desktop to display the same information as β€” and transmit the same information to β€” SideShow-enabled devices, so long as these gadgets used the Simple Content Format (SCF) for data. The Computer Status (Sidebar) gadget is such a gadget that uses SCF as an endpoint for distribution.

The Computer Status gadget can display processor use, memory use, hard drive storage space, battery life, Wi-Fi signal strength, Recycle Bin use, and system uptime on the Windows Sidebar β€” and on Windows SideShow-enabled devices including smart phones with Windows Mobile 5.0 or later. The Computer Status (Sidebar) gadget can be shown on the Today screen of Windows Mobile, which provides glanceable information about PC status; CPU usage and RAM usage update in real-time.

Devices with Windows SideShow functioning as alarms

Windows SideShow is a feature introduced in Windows Vista that enabled a display to receive data from an associated machine. From Microsoft:

Windows SideShow

>The Windows SideShow platform enables compatible devices to communicate with computers that are running Windows Vista. Windows SideShow-compatible devices can include personal electronics, home entertainment components, household appliances, and even office equipment. Gadgets, which are small programs designed to run on the SideShow platform, send and receive content between the computer and a device.
>
>Some common applications of the SideShow platform include sending timely information from the computer to the device, such as e-mail messages, calendar reminders, headlines, stock quotations, traffic updates, and weather updates. Users can browse that content even while the computer is in sleep mode or turned off. The platform also supports scenarios other than content consumption. For example, some SideShow-compatible devices, such as remote controls, can send commands to programs that are running on the computer and to other devices and systems that are connected to the computer.

A scenario not mentioned is the scenario where Windows SideShow could enable a device with a Windows SideShow-enabled auxiliary display to function as an alarm to audibly and visually inform the user of an event such as a critical email, instant message from a contact, or upcoming appointment.

As early as 2005, Microsoft discussed a Wi-Fi connected alarm clock that displayed information from a Windows Vista SideShow-enabled PC β€” appointments, traffic reports, and weather reports β€” and which automatically created alarms based on the first meeting in the gadget store; functionality that predates modern smart phones by many years, and which is reminiscent of Microsoft's home concepts and discussions for the creation of SideShow-enabled devices such as HDTVs and set-top boxes.

Does Glance Notifications of Surface Duo 2 remind anyone else of Windows SideShow?

Glance notifications in the Surface Duo 2 showing peripheral current time, missed call, unread message, and Microsoft Teams notifications

The Surface Duo 2 has a Glance Notifications feature that provides peripheral awareness of information when the device is closed. The edge of a display can show, say, the number of missed calls or unread messages.

Back in 2006, Microsoft released Windows SideShow in Windows Vista, a feature that enabled an external or an internal display to receive information and provide peripheral notifications. An in-edge display integrated in a laptop lid, for example, could show battery status, current time, unread email, upcoming appointments, and any other status depending on the gadgets installed.

Did anyone else think of Windows SideShow when they saw the new Surface Duo 2?

PowerPoint Remote for Windows SideShow compared with the Presentation Companion for Windows Mobile

Windows SideShow is a feature introduced in Windows Vista that enabled an auxiliary display to receive data from an associated machine. One scenario frequently discussed by Microsoft is controlling PowerPoint presentations remotely.

In 2005, Microsoft directly discussed controlling PowerPoint presentations on a PC from a smart phone; even in 2003 the company mentioned using Windows Mobile smart phones as auxiliary displays for computers. In 2008, this feature was finally here when Microsoft released the Developer Preview of Windows SideShow for Windows Mobile, and the Office PowerPoint Remote Gadget.

With the Office PowerPoint Remote Gadget, you can control presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint remotely. You can move forward and back between slides, move to a specific slide in the presentation, preview the next slide, switch to a different open presentation, view the slides of the current presentation, and view speaker notes. The gadget can also be displayed on the Today screen of Windows Mobile, so you can glance at the presentations that are open on a connected PC. Office PowerPoint Remote supports Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007.

Real-Time Email image for Windows SideShow

This is a patent image that comes from U.S. patent 7,895,309, titled Network event notification and delivery, and that describes a subsystem by which auxiliary displays of Windows SideShow can receive information by synchronizing with a network without the assistance of the main PC. Note that of all the PCs with support for Windows SideShow, only the experimental and interesting Toshiba PortΓ©gΓ© R400 supported functionality referred to as Active Notifications on the Edge Display of the machine.

An example user interface depicting means by which users can configure various settings for notifications related to email for auxiliary displays

Notifications delivered by auxiliary displays could be audible or visual:

>Notifications thus may be as simple as an LED, beep, or vibration, but also may be more complex and include message header information, such as source, subject, and time data that is written to an auxiliary display or read to the user in natural language. Note the various visual, audible, and vibration notifications may be changed based on the type of communication or sender.

This does not compete with the similar Automatic Wake feature introduced in Windows Vista, which wakes the computer at certain intervals to update information in auxiliary display storage:

>In general, whenever powered, the networking subsystem listens for incoming synchronization packets when operating in a first alternative, referred to as a push mode (because the server pushes the synchronization packets). When a synchronization packet is received, the networking subsystem processes the packet, and based on the packet may trigger a special system wakeup event for the system to further process the packet and/or any related message.

Finally, such subsystems could offer configurable rules similar to those of Microsoft Outlook or WinFS:

>Rules are used as a quick way for the user to decide which notifications to receive when the event notification subsystem is enabled. For example, rules may include a battery threshold, such that the system will not to notify the user of emails if the battery is below a certain threshold o

A brief history of Windows SideShow

Windows SideShow is a feature introduced in Windows Vista that enabled a display to receive data from an associated machine. There were many interesting Windows SideShow scenarios:

Concept sketches from MSDN depicting several Windows SideShow devices and scenarios

  • Controlling PowerPoint presentations remotely
  • Recording, scheduling, and viewing Windows Media Center content
  • Playing, skipping, forwarding tracks in Windows Media Player remotely
  • Viewing Microsoft Office Outlook appointment attendees and locations
  • Viewing Microsoft Office Outlook email
  • Viewing the status of machines (e.g., active processes; CPU, RAM use) remotely

These could all be accomplished by means of an external or an internal display associated with the machine, and many of these were ahead of their time.

Controlling PowerPoint presentations on a smart phone may seem like no big deal today, but this was discussed by Microsoft as far back as 2005. When the function was eventually released for Windows Mobile in 2008, Microsoft released Presentation Companion for Office 2010 three years later (which itself was eventually replaced by Office Remote in 2013). For Apple and Google platforms, it was not until 2015 that such functionality for PowerPoint was officially available in apps (although Apple released Keynote Remote for Keynote in January 2009). SideShow already provided this feature in a standard way; it did not have the fragmentation of these features across apps or platforms: you had one platform with support for gadgets, with no need for separate apps (e.g., Office Remote on Android or PowerPoint on iOS). Today, PowerPoint for iOS allows [the Apple Watch](https://venturebeat.com/2015/04/21/you-can-now-control-powe

Fresh stitches under my hat, teacher has a no hats in class policy. Sure thing!

The car accident was of the side impact variety and it was brutal. This was in the days before airbags and seatbelt laws. One second I'm driving and the next I'm halfway out the passenger window watching blood run off my head to pool in the glass of a previously closed window. Another second ticks by and I'm in the ER receiving thirteen crude stitches for eleven inches of wide open scalp. I lost more than two pints of blood and a large patch of hair. I also lost my favorite white fishnet t-shirt, but that's a separate tragedy.

That Friday of a Labor Day weekend was how my name shows up in the newspaper list of "Labor Day Weekend Accidents." Tuesday comes and I go to class at the local college. Being a teenager gave me the gift of immortality. There I was, fully ambulatory, just four days after a serious car accident. For the sake of propriety, I'm wearing a hat to cover the fresh injury. It was a whitePanama hat with a bright 80s style hatband. As this was 1983, everything was 80s style, but that's a separate tragedy.

Hobbling along, I make it to Sociology just as class was beginning. I take a seat at the back of class and settle in.

The conversation went something like this:

"Excuse me? Could you remove your hat please?" The teacher had her own sense of propriety. My hat didn't fit with proper classroom attire.

"I was in a car accident," I replied.

Did she hear my words or was one of her rude students muttering another in a career-long list of excuses? Likely the latter was the case.

"Take the hat off. You cannot wear that in my class," indicated she was not happy with my hat. Not at all.

Well, okay then.

Off comes my hat. Roughly a third of my hair had been shaved off. The wound was pink and puckered. The seam had a line of dried blood in it. The wound began an inch beyond my missing hairline and continued back, branching into a 'Y' shape. The surgeon's instructions were to keep the wound clean, dry, and unbandaged. Lucky for all in attendance, my mother had washed my scalp the previous day. She used the word "gore" at some point to describe what was washing off.

Imagine you're one of my classmates. Whatever you would say at that point would be something I heard from my classmates and friends.

"Ahhh, you can put your hat back on," said the teacher.

Not before a little malicious compliance, I won't.

"But I can't wear hats in class," I replied. "I mean, I can do it, but not if I'm breaking the rules."

"Please put your hat on."

"Okay.

How can I look cooler while on a motorycle?

This might be a dumb question, but I'm curious how to make girls' heads turn when on a motorcycle besides wear dumb flashy stuff.

What I do now:

When I come to a stop, I always try not to put a foot on the ground until my momentum fails me, so that people will think I'm an expert.

If I'm at a redlight that I know takes a while, I will take off my helmet and hold it nonchalantly as I wait for the light to change.

When getting gas, I will always stand next to the gas station door with my helmet on in case a girl wants to ask me about my bike.

When at a redlight, I always nod a "what's up" to the cars on either side of me and then the one behind me.

Whenever I pass another motorcycle, I always wait for them to initiate the wave so that I don't get left hanging and embarrass myself.

I started working out about 3 months ago, so now I wear a t-shirt and pull it tight and tuck it under butt to make my pecs pop more. I'll also flex my lats when I know someone is behind me.

If I get to a light right when it turns red I'll just put the kickstand down and stand next to my bike.

Anytime I pass a car on the highway, I always stare into the drivers window to see if they look at me and then nod. Sometimes I have to slow down for a few seconds until they look.

When going through an intersection I always stand up on my bike to make sure I am seen (Hard to do when starting from a stop).

I always keep a thin paperback tucked between my lower back and pants waist, knowing that when my shirt blows up the cars behind me will see the book and think I am intelligent.

After I nod to people at the redlight, I play airdrums with my feet being the bass and hi-hat to let people know I play drums and have rhythm.

If it's nighttime, I'll point my head and helmet to the sky while keeping my eyes on the road, to make it look like I am looking at the moon or stars (showing I have a sensitive side).

I've been riding for 3 months and just got good enough to do all this one month ago and I still don't have a girlfriend. What do you guys do to get noticed on your motorcycle? I can't pop a wheelie.

edit: If it wasn't clear, I was hoping more for the female perspective with this post. calling me a loser and asking if my cranial helmet is DOT certified isn't helping me at all. I'm going to bed.

Jerkin it with Gherkinit S15e7 Daily Charting for 1.21.22

Good Morning Apes!

The market is continuing to look unstable and sentiment will likely remain weak until the FOMC meeting next week. With China dropping rates and the FED expected to raise them we are likely going to continue to see uncertainty.

If the FED raises rates we will likely see a continued pullback followed by a period of healthier growth, If JPOW decides to turn the money printer back on, well it will cause more long-term issues but the market will most likely respond favorably in the near-term.

It also looks like Pelosi may have sold at the top or is announcing her retirement in a weird way https://thehill.com/homenews/house/590665-pelosi-says-shes-open-to-stock-trading-ban-for-congress, as one of congress's best traders, this is an odd move.

NFLX is interesting with Susquehanna and Citadel being top 10 share holders and the news stories of missed earnings. The sell of last night looked far more like a margin call than investors being sad about a 0.05% miss. Netflix also recently raised their rates which historically has been beneficial for them, plus they had positive EPS.

So the drop appears to be unsubstantiated. The media has compared GME to NFLX in the past blaming their hiring of a game developer for a large decline in GME share price. So it seems fitting to point out that their current price action is unusual.

The was also some suspicion of a margin call occurring back in that FINRA deferment period surrounding Thanksgiving. There was a lot of volume missing, a substantial amount of SI% reported, 11 million shares of GME bouncing around, and some other glitches occurring at that time as well. If a call occurred around that time they could have deferred up to 60 days.

Demistifying DLDSR

Hi, all!

I've noticed a LOT of confusion regarding DLDSR, DSR, etc since the new feature came out. As a long-time DSR user I'd like to try and help shed some light on this - what it is, how it works and why you'd use it (or not). I'll also cover Nvidia's Prey example and how they messed a lot of people up with that (myself included, initially).

I hope it's a useful read! There's also a TL;DR at the end for those who don't like reading or don't have the time :)

If you have any questions or think I missed something - please do comment below!

I have and will keep adding content to this post as you ask those questions :)

First off - WHAT IS DSR AND WHAT DOES IT DO?

DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution) is an override that lets you manually render games at a higher resolution than your screen's native res, up to "4x" total resolution (meaning 2x in X and 2x in Y axis). For 720p displays this ends up up to 1440p, for 1080p displays - 4K, for 1440p displays - 5K (5120x2880) and for 4K displays - 8K.

These high-res frames are then resized back to your monitor's native res where you can enjoy what most of you will now know as supersampling or SSAA (FSAA for the old farts among us!). As with any form of supersampling - you get the full penalty of rendering that higher resolution, for example: if your GPU is at 100% usage already at 1080p - rendering the same game at 4K will net you roughly a quarter of the framerate you got before.

WHAT IS DLDSR THEN?

DLDSR (Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution) is, essentially, the exact same tech - it lets you render a higher res image than your monitor's native exactly the same as DSR - but with one extra step: it uses Deep Learning (the "DL" part) to downscale the frames back to your native res, instead of a simple bicubic filter. These AI downscaled/enhanced images should then rival a higher DSR resolution's quality - this is why Nvidia compares 4x DSR to 2.25 DLDSR. The difference is ONLY in how the image is scaled down to your native res - bicubic filtering vs AI enhancement.

SO WHERE'S THE CONFUSION?

Where a lot of people got their face confused was when they expected 4K DLDSR to render faster than 4K native or 4K DSR - this was not the case - even to the contrary. And when comparing 4K screenshots with 4K DLDSR many people basically saw the same 4K pixels - no difference (bar any camera movement). What gives??? Isn't it supposed to make 4K out of a lower resolution through AI?

No... DLDSR's mag

The show is so stupid, I can't take it!

SPOILERS AHEAD

As someone who loves the books, I can't stand how bad the Amazon adaption is. I'm pissed, and I need to vent. They managed to ruin my favorite of the three main characters, Perrin in the first episode! Why the flying fuck is he married?! Having him kill his wife was just salt in the wound. All the characters are wrong. Rand is Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker with red hair. Mat has somehow turned into a gutless coward who runs from danger. All character development is thrown out the window from the get go. All the characters are full adults from the beginning who have no awkwardness and nothing to grow into, so all character drama is reduced to petty squabbles. It also removes a lot of funny moments of Rand and Perrin being awkward around girls.

Every fan of Wheel of Time knows that the series has some of the best women characters in the whole fantasy genre. In the show, they seem like Walmart brand versions of themselves. Nyaneve has none of the character traits that make her such an awesome character. She doesn't pull her braid when she's mad. She only occasionally has her feisty personality, and all other times she's a block of wood. Suian doesn't have her commanding presence and short temper. Morgaze is Sir Not Appearing in this Film as of where I am (I haven't watched the whole season). Egwene is the only character I like because she has a personality. Everyone else in the cast acts like they've swallowed a whole bottle of Ambien.

Let's talk about the WTF moments, because there are a lot. The relationships between characters in the show make no sense. Rand's relationship with Egwene in the books was symbolic of the normal life he would never get to have. The show turns them into bf and gf. WTF? I almost lost it when Rand accuses Perrin of trying to get with Egwene. Seriously? Who wrote this shit? Michael Bay? Moirane and Suian have sex. WTF?! Nyaneve turns into Super Saiyan Goku. WTF?!! Machin Shin seems to have given up it's hunger for souls and decided to instead tell it's victims depressing stories until they give up and end it all. WTF?!!! Perrin's wolf powers just kind of appear, there's no Elias to mentor him. WTF?!! And why does Loial look like a Hobbit with gigantism and Sideshow Bob hair?! In the books, he is so animalistic in appearance that he is mistaken multiple times for a Trolloc. WTF!!!!???

Lastly, I hate that I have to bring this up, but I have to. I love a diverse cast, but the way the show goes about it

AITA for going off on a mother who just wanted to vent?

A red haired mother is in the PA at my daughter’s kindergarten. She obviously has a red haired daughter. Her daughter’s favourite disney princess is the Little Mermaid, and she recently found out that in the live action movie, Ariel will not have red hair, like her, but in fact, be black.

At the next PA meeting, which was the next day, this mother, whom I have spoken to a grand total of once before this, comes up to me and starts venting about diversity in films and how nobody cares about white people. She said that now her daughter doesn’t have any disney princesses that look like her, and because of it was crying for days.

For context, I’m an American. I’m of South korean descent. I kept those 2 separate because I identify as an American, and only as an American. I was irked by her because there are literally 4-5 other disney princesses who are all white, just like her daughter, and i’m not sure abt this, but isn’t there another red haired or ginger disney princess?

I told her, β€œOMG that’s so terrible, it’s so much worse than my daughter saying she wanted to be a disney princess and being told there aren’t any korean princesses. Not as if you guys have a few different Disney princesses and we literally have none.”

She is shocked that I’m actually back talking to her and looks around for support, but gets none, most of them nodding along with me. She says β€œWell, the other white princesses don’t have red hair, my daughter doesn’t have anyone who looks exactly like her, it’s fucking unfair!”

I respond β€œPoor you, my daughter doesn’t have anyone who looks anything like her. The one she loves the most is Rapunzel, and guess what, she has to accept that she will never look anything like her, your daughter can at least look something like another princess.”

β€œYour daughter has Mulan!” She shrieks. No kidding, genuinely yelled that in a super scratchy voice.

β€œWe are of Korean descent. There are several very distinct differences in the way Mulan looks and how we look, and not just that, but Mulan fights for the Chinese army, not really a representative of all Asians, more for just the Chinese. But if you think all Asians look the same and we should be happy with Mulan, ok, but then you need to be ecstatic with your 5 white princesses, even though you guys don’t look too similar. If you want a movie starring someone who represents you or your daughter perfectly, then let me tell you something we POCs have been hearing for decades, β€œmake your own movies then””

Never forget that before your op is someone else's op, that while you're doing your run someone else is making their run, and after your run there is another beginning or doing their run. - Street Solo advice, Fighting Man's Magazine, Resource War Era, TerraSol.

Speaks blew the android's head off with his SMG, grabbing the body and yanking it out even as he leveled the SMG at the creation engine's computer system and pulled the trigger. The SMG had a whistling noise and Speaks knew the barrel was almost shot out.

The light SMG, firing 2.2mm rounds, was supposed to only see a few bursts worth the work, maybe one or two mags.

Speaks had burned through almost a dozen mags and the memory-plas was badly worn.

The android crashed to the ground and Speaks patted him down. He was carrying a heavy battle rifle, high caliber, loaded with heavy mass reactive gyrojet rounds, with an underslung 20mm variable munition grenade launcher. Speaks stripped grenades off the android's harness, checking them over and tucking them into his own gear.

A quick glance outside the conex showed that nobody was close and he scurried across and down a narrow gap between conex stacks. Lights stabbed down, searching through the conex containers and the equipment of the shipping yard. Speaks looked up and saw hovercraft in the air, some marked with LawSec and others marked with news stations.

"No, you idiots," Speaks swore, running for the fence.

That instinct raised up again and Speaks threw himself to the side, rolling, and a loud KARAK! sounded out right before a crater was blown out of the ferrocrete right where he would have been.

Speaks dropped a grenade as he rolled, coming up on his three feet and running for the conexes. The sniper was on the upper level highway access.

The sniper round blew through his shield and came so close that the air displacement ripped the end of his left antenna off. Speaks staggered, slapping his camo and putting on a burst of speed.

In the sky two of the LawSec HRT and one of the news hovercraft exploded. The unarmored news hovercraft fell to the ground, a burning hulk erupting in flames, the two HRT craft falling from the sk

Ceiling Boxed. The MOASS is upon us. For real.

Hello beautiful apes,

I have some things to share with you that I feel we need to internalize as a community. This is not hopium, and it is not FUD.

This is somewhere in the middle. Giving a realistic perspective on what's actually going on. And it is important that we grasp the severity of the real situation so no one gets trapped anymore.

And the real reason why MOASS is finally upon us. No hype baiting, no calls to action, no dates.

Just sharing my perspective with some strong opinions, speculation, a fun story, and some pictures of charts.

There are 3 sections.

Section 1: Addressing today

Section 2: Story / Thought Experiment

Section 3: Review of charts with lessons learned.

Let's get into it.

Section 1: Addressing today

I know today sucked. I'm mad that I was right. I was hoping it wouldn't be a rug pull. I was hoping the subtle call to action with a time sensitivity that came out of nowhere promising the moon if you do this one thing... would be true.

But we need to learn from this.

I posted 2 posts prior to this one saying to be skeptical about it.

But because neither post went with the narrative being spun, it didn't get any traction. I tried to warn to be cautious of the options trap.

My only thought was.. this looks too perfect. It has to be a trap.

Because MOASS will just fucking happen.. It won't be laid out on the charts. It won't be a subtle bread crumb that we find. It won't be predictable. Someone's not going to come out of nowhere and say "GUYS LOOK AT THIS THING I FOUND IN THE CHART AND IT WILL HAPPEN ON THIS DAY AND ONLY THIS DAY BECAUSE XYZ"...

It will be a sudden violent shift up. It will be a fucking Tsunami that hits everyone by surprise. It will be an asteroid in the dark. A black hole that swallows the entire financial sector and there's not a damned thing they can do to stop it. And not a damned thing any one of us, neither individually nor collectively can do to make it happen any faster.

The only thing I as an individual investor can do to secure the investment that I believe in, is to buy, hold and make sure that share is in my fucking name by direct registering it. That's all. Nothing else.

Options.. somebody show me one law that states MM must hedge with shares which drives a gamma squeeze?

Someone show me a law that states the calls being exercised must be purchased on a lit exchange, and can not be a synthetic fake share that they internalized?

BY ALL MEANS if you wan

Loopring: A no-brainer investment (Due Diligence)

Disclaimer

This is a long read (4k+ words). Just a heads up.

None of the information in this report should be constituted as near/mid/long term financial advice OR financial advice for that matter, cryptocurrency investing is highly risky and speculative and there is a chance you may lose most of your initial investment.

I won't provide any TLDR for this post because it is worth reading all of it, since it is a good idea to know what you are investing into.

Also DON'T give me awards.

I hold a significant Loopring investment, thus this may be a biased analysis.

(Edit 1: Added an extra section analyzing market cap of NFT)

Introduction

Loopring is an open protocol for building decentralized exchanges initiated by Daniel Wang. The protocol is free, extensible, and serves as a standardized building block for decentralized applications (dApps) that incorporate exchange functionality. It is operable on Ethereum and Qtum while NEO is also under construction. (Reference: Bitcoin Wiki).

Loopring is a no-brainer investment at these price levels and here is why:

Loopring is an engineering first team

Probably the most important thing that gets overlooked in an initial investment thesis, is the management. Good management is absolutely pivotal to a business/technologies success.

Loopring is an engineering first development team, meaning they are made up of mostly engineers(95% of the team are engineers). Now you may be asking, isn't this a problem… it's not, you always want a team that is as technical as possible, a good product will always sell itself, look at Tesla, mostly engineers and 0 marketing. Good management, is the cornerstone of a company and the value it will deliver to its investors. (Source: Loopring Medium Article, Finestone's parting words)

Some of the most successful companies on the planet, are engineering first companies, with a rich focus in R&D (Research and Development). I can list many but here is a few

- Palantir

- Google

- Amazon

- Tesla

Loopring's lack of media presence, may seem bearish to outside investors or on a short time frame, BUT to me, it is a sign that they are focused on delivering industry changing products that will accelerate mass adoption to cryptocurrencies, metaverse and NFTs. There is no need to endlessly hype your products, there is no need

AITA for letting my car run for 10mins in the morning?

I've (25F) lived in this same apartment complex for 10 years. The apartment owners decided to add on to the parking lot maybe 7 years ago, adding one row of parking between another building and mine. I've been parking on this new part because I can see my car from my living room sliding glass door (no balconies). Plus it is within my car auto start range.

I have a pretty strict morning routine, and at 6:20 during weekdays I auto start my car in the winter to warm it up. I always leave at 6:30, unless there is a lot of snow to clear. But during those 10 minutes my lights are on and point at either the apartments across from me or into the living rooms on my complex.

Well, yesterday when I got home from work, the new neighbors below me opened their sliding glass door and told me not to shine my lights into their apartment. I said, that's your living room, right? I'm always gone in 10 minutes, is it really that big of a deal? The guy said that he fell asleep in his living room and I woke him up that morning, and he forgot to close his blinds. I apologized, and said I'd try to remember to turn my lights off before I come home in the evening. Of course I forgot, but this morning he had his blinds closed.

AITA? It's only for 10 minutes, and it's not like I'm shining them directly into his bedroom (which I would have in the apartments across from us if I didn't back in). I've never had this problem with anyone after living here so long.

INFO: I live in upstate NY so winters can be serious. I only auto start my car in the winter when it is below 30F. Just this past weekend it was -6F. We do get generous snow coverage and can take up to 5 minutes clearing your car (when it's very bad), thawing thick ice on your windows, and shoveling snow around your spot. Everyone up here let's their car run for about 5 mins, there other people in my parking lot that do the same thing. The main reason why I let it run is to thaw the ice on the windows to allow for safe driving. It would be silly to clean my car off while it is off, why not warm it up while you do it.

I auto start at 6:20, get dressed, and arrive at my car at 6:25, then actually start my car again then proceed to clean the snow off my vehicle and leave by 6:30.

I also drive a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek.

EDIT: Given what I explained above, and how it is pretty standard to be clearing your car of snow in snowy regions. He would have inevitably been woken up by me, other residents, or maintenance men clearing/scrap

Sexy Space Babes: Chapter Seventy Nine

Jason smiled as the shuttle screamed out into the open sky.

β€œWell, relatively open,” he murmured to himself as he stared at the stormy clouds above.

Maybel paused in her open-mouthed staring to turn back to him. β€œYou say something?”

β€œNothing worth mentioning.” He shook his head, only to grunt as a sudden gust of wind had the craft leaning to the left. Β Shifting the flight stick, he soon had the shuttle leveled out, though it wasn’t long at all before he was compensating in the opposite direction.

The stormy open skies of Raknos-Three were fun like that.

Though it still beats scraping paint across cave walls, he thought, before glancing up at the storm clouds above. Though how long I’ll be able to maintain that opinion remains to be seen.

After all, the complete lack of aerospace craft in the planet’s atmosphere had not come about as a result of a lack of desire for aerial superiority on the Imperium’s part. No, the reason no one flew anything β€˜in-atmosphere’ was because doing so was considered borderline suicidal – what with the wind, rain, lightning and occasional absurdly tall mountain.

As if to punctuate his thoughts, a massive bolt of lightning streaked across the skies above him. Which he could only barely make out through the rain that was even now occluding his external cameras – despite said camera’s wipers best attempts to alleviate it. Between that and the ionization in the air obstructing his sensors, he was effectively flying blind.

How fortunate for him, he needed only to go up - into a storm so large it would have quite effectively covered a good chunk of the North American continent.

β€œJason…”

He looked over to see that Maybel had gotten over her awe at being the very first Ufrian to fly and was now staring through the murky windscreen up at the foreboding sky above them with an expression that pretty well mirrored how he felt.

β€œβ€¦are you sure this is a good idea?”

Jason glanced down at the many yellow lights that lit up his dashboard. Everyone of which could have independently told him that what he was about to attempt was a very bad idea. Hell, even if they were all blue, this would have been a bad idea.

β€œSure,” he said, trying to put a brave face on it. For Maybel’s sake if nothing else. β€œThis’ll be a piece of cake.”

The alien cocked her head to the side. β€œCake?”

Jason pulled up on the stick, feeling the subtle sensation of acceleration even through the anti-grav as he angled up towards the storm.

β€œWhen we make it out of

The time SR-71 Blackbird crew that β€˜gave the birdie’ to a French Air Force Mirage III pilot, lit the afterburners and outran him

One of the most entertaining stories about flying the Blackbird comes from Lt. Colonel William Burk Jr., who shares about a particular mission he flew [according to SR-71 pilot Stormy Boudreaux, Tom Henichek was Burk’s RSO for that mission] over Lebanon back in 1982 in the book Skunk Works by Ben Rich.

β€˜In the fall of ’82, I flew from Mildenhall on a mission over Lebanon in response to the Marine barracks bombing. President Reagan ordered photo coverage of all the terrorist basis in the region. The French refused to allow us overfly, so our mission profile was to refuel off the south coast of England, a Mach 3 cruise leg down the coast of Portugal and Spain, left turn through the Straits of Gibraltar, refuel in the Western Mediterranean, right turn into Lebanon and fly right down main street Beirut, exit along the southern Mediterranean with another refueling over Malta, supersonic back out the straits, and return to England. Because Syria had a Soviet SA-5 missile system Β just west of Damascus that we would be penetrating (we were unsure of Syria’s intentions in this conflict), we programmed to fly above 80,000 feet and at Mach 3 Β plus to be on the safe side, knowing that this advanced missile had the range and speed to nail us. As we entered Lebanon’s airspace my Recon Systems Officer in the rear cockpit informed me that our defensive systems display showed we were being tracked by that SA-5. About 15 seconds later we got a warning of active guidance signals from the SA-5 site. We couldn’t tell whether there was an actual launch or the missile was still on the rails, but they were actively tracking us. We didn’t waste any time wondering, but climbed and pushed that throttle, and said a couple of β€œHail Kellys.”

We completed our pass over Beirut and turned toward Malta, when I got a warning low-oil-pressure light on my right engine.Β  Even though the engine was running fine I slowed down and lowered our altitude and made a direct line for England. We decided to cross France without clearance instead of going the roundabout way. β€˜We made it almost across, when I looked out the left window and saw aΒ French Mirage IIIΒ sitting ten feet off my left wing. He came up on our frequency and asked us for our Diplomatic Clearance Number. I had no idea what he was talking about, so I told him to stand by. I ask my backseater, who said, β€œDon’t worry about it. I just gave it to him.” What he had given him was β€œthe bird” with his middle finger: I lit the afterburners an

The System Health gadget for Windows SideShow displaying options to remotely control the power of a Windows Vista PC

Windows SideShow is a feature introduced in Windows Vista that enabled a display to receive data from an associated machine. Windows SideShow allowed a PC to do many new things β€” many for which we use a smart phone nowadays β€” and these could all be accomplished by means of an external or an internal display associated with the machine; many of these were ahead of their time. By proxy, Windows SideShow also allowed smart phones and other devices to do things that were not available before.

With Windows SideShow, we could use smart phones to remotely log off, restart, put to sleep, or shut down a PC. A handful of strange apps from the App Store or Play Store support this. but the dearth of options is apparent in that some sites recommended using remote access apps such as TeamViewer for this functionality. With Windows SideShow, we could view details of our PCs on our smart phones that are just really unheard of today (such as viewing the operating system uptime of a PC or the running processes of a PC from a smart phone).
