We have several Windows Server 2016 VMs that will not reboot. It seems like Windows itself is shutting down properly, but Proxmox never reboots the virtual machine.
The Windows Event Log shows the following message:
The operating system is shutting down at system time 2022-01-05T18:05:36.801939400Z.
Which indicates that Windows has finished shutting down and it is up to the hardware to reboot. For some reason Proxmox never realizes that Windows is shut down and waiting for a reboot.
The Qemu agent and all virtio drivers are installed and on the latest stable version. Proxmox is on 7.0-13.
Hi there, there is a DFSR folder (for MDT) being replicated from one to the other MDT server.
All fine so far. The DFSR is not synching anymore, I guess since the main had to be restored from a backup.
OK, I thought to delete the files and have it sync again. But there is no way to do anything on the folder of the destination MDT.
Stopped DFSR, Deployment services. Trying to resel ACL with any possible method found, always permission denied.
What is weird is that my (even domain admin or local admin) should have permissions.
Any idea before I pull out my hair (which I want to have growing long actually...)
Is anyone else having this issue with their 2016 servers in n-able patch management? I opened a ticket on this. Somehow NC has marked this patch as superseded by the 2021-11 November cumulative patch. Only thing I can think of is if they're superseding based on KB number because for some reason the Nov cumulative has a slightly newer KB number. I'm stumped but I'm anticipating it causing a lot of issues in a couple of days when my final wave of servers patch. The servers are not listing it as needed and of course it's critical. If you go on the box and patch manually, there it is. So to me this is a problem.

We want to upgrade from 2012 r2 to 2016 or 2019. My boss said that 2016 is using less ressources and has higher performance (they tested this like 1 - 2 years ago).
But from what I have red 2019 would be the better choice.

Maybe this is a basic security setting that I am missing but one day all of a sudden I found that I was no longer able to run any app I searched for from the start menu on any of my Windows 2016 servers. Instead I get this generic icon for any app I search for and I am unable to run it. Anyone seen this before?
Even if i search for notepad.exe I still cannot execute the surfaced result.
This is happening on all of my servers and to my knowledge there is no group policy restricting their execution. They all used to work fine until one day they didn't

I have 2 Windows 2016 VM's running on Vmware ESXi VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 17700523 with VMDK's as the SQL disks.
I have a SQL 2017 AlwaysOn Cluster running on Server 2016.
Basically everything is pointing to an issue with the network configuration but for the time being we're stuck without a solution.
Has anyone come across a similar issue which tends to failover the resources randomly?

I have spent lots of time Googling and am not find very much current and/or clear information. I am running Windows Server 2016 at home. My initial plan was to run Ubuntu Server in Hyper-V and then run Docker there. I was having some network folder permission issues with an app (windows shares mounted in Ubuntu server but not showing in app) and was getting some help in Discord. A user there suggested just running Docker on my Windows Server to alleviate lots of permission issues.
Thoughts on doing that? Also, how should I install Docker on Windows Server 2016 if I want to run mostly Linux containers?
We’ve been using McAfee enterprise for years but it is EOL and there will be no more signature updates after 12/31. No big loss really, but I have to replace it. I’m not going to the next iteration which is Endpoint Security.
I was thinking about using the included Windows defender or whatever it is called now. I’ve heard it’s now relatively decent so maybe that’s an option.
Does anyone have any recommendations? Use Defender, or any other products? I’m not sure if Defender in Server 2012 is viable. We have about 70-80 servers all told.
I've got a Windows Server 2016 server hosted in Azure that won't take patches. Last one was in August, so it needs at least the 2021-09 SSU and the 2021-10 CU.
I've tried the following:
Install the above patches manually after downloading them from the Microsoft update catalog.
- "The following updates were not installed" with 0x8000ffff returned.
- Nuked the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder and rebooted. Same result.
Checked the CBS log, and saw "ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT"
- Ran "Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /AnalyzeComponentStore" and got "Component store can be repaired"
- Ran "Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup" then rebooted after success message. Same result.
- Ran "Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth" then rebooted after success message. Same result.
- Tried the above after mounting the 2016 ISO and pointing the command to that folder for source. No improvement.
Has anyone here had a similar situation and was able to get updates to install?

EDIT: This is what ultimately fixed it. Thank you all for the help!
Open an elevated command prompt and run the following commands:
REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS
REG DELETE /v HKLM\COMPONENTS\StoreDirty
Reboot and run SFC /Scannow again.
After I did this updates were able to install once again.
